Airlines started using algorithms for dynamic pricing in the 1980s.

Travel booking platforms and other players in the travel industry followed. 
Now dynamic pricing is standard practice for hotel reservations, train and bus tickets, car rentals and most services in the travel industry.

Amazon is known to have been using dynamic pricing since at least the year 2000, when it applied algorithms to set the prices of DVDs.
Many e-commerce websites currently use one form or another of dynamic pricing.

Retail companies are using dynamic pricing - whenever you see electronic price tags in a shop or a supermarket, there is a very high chance that prices change pretty often.

Google Ads rates are set using dynamic pricing algorithms.

Uber introduced surge pricing in 2014 and most ride sharing platforms use variations of this.

Tickets for sporting events and concerts are priced using dynamic pricing.

Disneyland introduced dynamic pricing in 2016.

B2B software companies are tragically lagging behind.

I'm Elena, and I help B2B tech companies get inbound marketing right. I write about what I learn along the way, and I connect the dots with my experience selling software and IT services.

I started out doing sales for an IT solutions company and later on for a video technology company. 
Because I hated cold calling (but loved listening to clients’ needs and finding the right solution for them), I was always trying to reach out in a warmer way. 

So I was writing blog articles, sending potential clients content and trying to educate them about the solutions I was selling.
I discovered that I could open conversations easier and following up was not soul-crushing (because I was adding useful information to the conversation, not just “checking in”).

𝗦𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝗿 𝗜 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁:
✅ If you are in B2B and selling *high-value* products or services, educating and helping come before selling
✅ The best marketers are the ones who can align the company around the same goals
✅ It’s important to build assets that help you grow in the long-term

Unpopular opinion (maybe):
❌ I don't believe there is a magical solution/tactic that works universally. There is a lot of hype around demand gen, storytelling, RevOps - but I don't think any of these tactics work in isolation or work for everyone. 
Instead:
-> get to know your clients and how they buy
-> be realistic with your internal strengths and capabilities (you cannot do it all - but what can you execute really well & adds value to your clients? = that's what you should be focusing on)
-> have a process to test, learn and improve
