The best coaches I have seen do something that looks simple.

They create thinking space.

That space has three ingredients:

✅ Silence that feels safe
✅ Questions that feel precise
✅ Patience that feels respectful

Leaders sabotage this without realizing it.

They respond too fast because speed feels helpful.

What it actually does is remove ownership from the other person.

Here are the common ways leaders collapse thinking space:

1/. They diagnose before listening fully
The other person stops exploring and starts complying.

The other person starts outsourcing their thinking.

3/. They jump to advice to reduce discomfort

In my early years, I led with aggressive intensity and ruthless benchmarks.

Today, I lead with calm presence, deep respect, and “The Power of Nice,” while keeping standards sharp.

Here is what tolerance looks like in daily leadership:

✅ I pause before I respond, because my first emotion is data and my final response is culture.

✅ I separate the person from the problem, because dignity is always protected.

✅ I hold the line with calm language, because teams copy tone faster than instructions.

✅ I reset my mind through reading and fitness, because regulation is built outside meetings too.

When leaders stay steady, teams stop working around fear and start working toward outcomes.
