'Women aren't having children because they don't want them' 🙄


It's definitely not that:

➡️ You lose years of progression in your career
➡️ We're expected to financially contribute AND be a mother
➡️ Cost of living is hard enough without nappies
➡️ Most men STILL don't pick up 50% of the unpaid labour
➡️ There. Is. No. Village.

We're just selfish and too ambitious and focussed on drinking matcha in our leggings. 

Anyway...

To all the women in business who were 'mysteriously let go' after pregnancy....


I'm fortunate that I've mostly worked for very ethical companies who value women...

But the amount of women who've told me they:

→ Were made redundant after giving birth
→ Forced out due to no flexibility
→ Told they 'won't care about their career because they'll be in a baby bubble' after giving birth. 

...is absolutely astounding. 

I spend most days speaking to women who set up businesses the moment they had kids because....there was no other choice. 

And after my post last week, I was inundated with even more messages from burnt out women with awful stories. 

Ladies, no one is coming to save you. That much is clear. 

Grow your business. Learn how to sell. Do things your way. 

Will it be easy!? No. It will be hell at times. 

But....at least you won't have to ask anyone for permission to start late, finish early or not show up at all some days!

If you want to become a speaker, this is exactly what I did from day 1 💪🏼


Firstly…I’ll never get used to people asking to have photos with me after a talk 🥹

Secondly…I didn’t get here by accident or chance. 

Here’s how I’d become a speaker all over again:


1. Pay up!
It’s OK to pay your way onto a stage as long as your ideal client is there. Why should you get someone else’s audience for free?

2. Pitch
Don’t wait for gigs to come to you. Connect with organisers and ASK for the opportunity.

3. Be selfless 
No one cares about your story. Fact. When you pitch, say what’s in it for their audience. 

4. Show you can speak 
I started a YouTube channel. I went live every week. If you can show you’re confident, you’re more likely to get booked.

5. Run your own event
I’ve run 5 past events to get photos and videos of me speaking, and show I understand how it works.

6. Make it easy 
Create a kit that summarise why they should book you. Then create a drive with headshots, your bio, the 3 talks you can deliver, testimonials…so they can book you quickly and easily!


Becoming famous will take more than putting speaker in your bio. Trust me.

THIS is how you create semi-viral posts...


Audience:
↪ Choose a very broad audience. Mine was mums. 

Media:
↪ Choose a media headline you don't agree with. Mine was 'women no longer want children'

Feeling:
↪ Channel those who agree with YOU - how are they feeling, what are they angry about, what are they experiencing, what are they thinking. Mine was 'It's not that i don't want children, it's that it's too hard'

Injustice:
↪ If the target audience said 'it isn't fair because...', how would that sentence end? Write a bulleted list.

Humour:
↪ Add a joke if you can to lighten the post - satire and sarcasm work brilliantly!

Advice:
↪ Use an open ended question to ask for advice or views on the topic. 


This works because the people who agree will always rally behind you.

This works because it's emotive - mums are tired and suddenly someone is relating to them!

I’ve lost TENS OF THOUSANDS in following all the clever sounding scaling advice…

And it’s about time I share the journey I’ve been on!

Fact is it sounds great until you try it for yourself and it fails, so…

Here’s are my 3 biggest reminders for 2026:

❌ Closeness doesn't scale. It keeps you small. 
❌ Conversations don't create demand. They convert what already exists. 
❌ Trust can be earned from afar. 

What does this mean?

Scaling actually requires LESS direct contact with you.

This year I'm dismantling the standard advice.
Cold DMs.
Sales calls.
Sales teams. 

Not because they don't work.
Because they're expensive 
...emotionally draining...
...and incompatible with most solopreneur life goals.

I never wanted:

❌ A big sales team
❌ To live life on my phone

I'm guessing you didn't either. 

Sales can come from intimacy and/or influence.

Intimacy relies on closeness to you.
Influence relies on decision making.

When I sell through access to me, I burn out and stagnate.
When I lean into my online influence strategy?

Same revenue.
Fewer conversations.
Scalability.

If you're already visible
Quietly sick of sales calls
Avoiding DMs
But love making content...

Epidemic Trust

Instrumental Trust
↪️ I believe what you say will change my life 

Admiring you is safe.

It makes them feel smart and even in the right network WITHOUT becoming uncomfortable.

Buying would mean admitting a gap.
Making a decision. 
Parting with cash. 

If you want them to buy, not applaud…

➡️ The next step must be obvious 
➡️ The risk must feel contained 
➡️ Inaction must cost them something 

Most business owners don’t get past number 1!
