I love small group facilitation.

When leaders from different sectors lean in.

They’re more intimate.

It’s less about presenting and more about listening.
Less about being right and more about learning.

There is a moment in almost every skill where things start to feel easier.

Not because the work became simple.

Because you have done it enough times that your brain recognizes the patterns. 

You see what matters faster. You know where to focus.

That moment happened to me this week.

I was reviewing an application for someone and preparing feedback. As I worked through it, the adjustments that were needed felt obvious. The gaps. 

The places where the story could be clearer. The pieces that needed to connect.

The suggestions just rolled off the tongue.

It reminded me how much practice sits behind moments like that.

Years of reading applications. Writing them. Seeing what works. Seeing what does not.

Practice is what creates that shift.

The more time you spend learning the fundamentals, the more room you have later to experiment, adapt, and think creatively.

It applies to almost everything. Leadership. Strategy. Writing. Problem solving.

The early reps may feel repetitive.

They are also what make the interesting work possible later.

It's untenable to live in this reality right now as a woman and a mom, and I'm going to do more about it. But in the meantime,  I do apologize for missing your email.

“We’re still five.”
That’s what my dad said when we lost our mom.
“We’re still five” is what I reminded my brother and sister years later when we lost our dad on Jan. 31, 2026.

The truth is… we are so many more.

I don’t usually share something this personal here, but last week felt worth sharing.

Losing a loved one is never easy. There is sadness, loss, anxiety, and the overwhelm of everything that needs to be done afterward.

My dad made it easier.

And our “village” made it bearable.

On Friday, March 6, what would have been his 97th birthday, we scattered his ashes from a boat beneath the Golden Gate Bridge. The weather conditions were amazing. Thanks, Dad.

We also held a tribute to my mom and dad at the bench they donated years ago in Golden Gate Park. The plaque reads simply and meaningfully:

“To the Park and City We Love.”

That evening we completed the trifecta with an Irish wake with friends and family, just as my dad had wanted.

My brother, sister, and I worked as a team.

It was all made possible by the love and support of our village of friends and family.

The celebration of life continued through the weekend with my high school reunion and brunch with my loving wife at the Officers’ Club in the Presidio. The same place where my parents had their first date.

To my clients who gave me the grace and space this past week, thank you.
And to my family and friends… our village:

We are so many more than five.

I miss you already, dad.

But curiously, I still feel blessed and embraced.

I once watched a guy walk off a stage still riding the high of a standing ovation, and I accidentally crushed it.

I said, "You should do this more." He went quiet. Then told me he'd always dreamed of it but had no idea where to start.

His pain was obvious, and I felt terrible.

That moment stuck with me. Because I've been that guy too: sitting on an idea, waiting for the timing to be right, the message to be tighter, the plan to be cleaner.

Here's what I've learned after years working with successful leaders: the plan never gets perfect. But it gets done. There's a big difference.

My dad taught me that, actually. He was an avid reader with bookshelves packed with hundreds of books he's read and re-read. When I put together his story using nothing but recorded conversations and a transcription tool, he became an author.

My niece said she'd never even heard half those stories. 

That was my Ah-ha moment. 

That’s how I created my system of ‘speaking a book into existence’. 

This is how I'm helping others become bestselling authors by sharing their stories and not typing a word!

A guy I know was on fire during a podcast, until…
Years of hard experience. Sharp, practical ideas. The host loved him. At the end of the interview, she asked: "Where can people find you?"

He said, "...LinkedIn."

I physically winced.

Not because LinkedIn is bad. Because that was his entire plan. He'd just handed over forty minutes of genuinely useful thinking and walked away with nothing to show for it.

I call it the invisible expert problem. You've got the knowledge. You've got the track record. And almost nobody outside your immediate circle has any idea.

The fix isn't working harder. It's getting specific.

"I help companies grow" is something a thousand people could say. 

"I help PE-backed SaaS companies cut churn through behavioral psychology" is something that gets you forwarded around a room. The narrower the lane, the faster the recognition. It feels counterintuitive right up until the inbound calls start coming.

The other piece people skip is having an actual point of view.

Not just expertise. An opinion. A take that creates a little friction. 

Then there's the asset question. 

A great conversation helps one person at a time. A book, a framework, a body of writing those work while you sleep. 

My dad did an interview for StoryCorps and I uploaded the audio to AWS, transcribed it, and had a book for Christmas. He's an avid reader who never imagined he'd be an author. Now he is. The process took weeks, not years.

That's the part most people overcomplicate. You don't write a book. You talk it into existence, then hand it to someone who finishes the production.

None of this requires becoming a content creator or dancing on TikTok (though maybe that's your thing and I won't judge).

It just requires deciding that the knowledge you've spent years earning is worth sharing.

What's one thing you know that your industry needs to hear more of?

Most executives I know have been "about to write a book" for years.
Someday when things slow down. Someday after the next quarter. Someday when they finally have time.

There's a Spanish proverb that cuts right to it: "Tomorrow is the busiest day of the week."

That someday never arrives. And the expertise that could have changed careers, theirs and others', stays locked in their heads.

That's the real cost. Not a book unwritten. A legacy unrealized.
