I love small group facilitation.

When leaders from different sectors lean in.
When someone shares a real example instead of a polished talking point.
When one insight sparks another.
When you can almost feel ideas building on top of each other in real time.

Small groups have a different rhythm.

They’re more intimate.
More honest.
More generous.

It’s less about presenting and more about listening.
Less about being right and more about learning.

Facilitating those spaces is about holding the structure lightly.
Watching the clock so no one has to.
Making sure every voice has room.
Asking the question that helps the group go one layer deeper.

There’s something powerful about creating a space where people are willing to share what they’re seeing, what they’re struggling with, and what they’re trying.

There is a moment in almost every skill where things start to feel easier.

Not because the work became simple.

Because you have done it enough times that your brain recognizes the patterns. 

You see what matters faster. You know where to focus.

That moment happened to me this week.

I was reviewing an application for someone and preparing feedback. As I worked through it, the adjustments that were needed felt obvious. The gaps. 

The places where the story could be clearer. The pieces that needed to connect.

The suggestions just rolled off the tongue.

It reminded me how much practice sits behind moments like that.

Years of reading applications. Writing them. Seeing what works. Seeing what does not.

Practice is what creates that shift.

The more time you spend learning the fundamentals, the more room you have later to experiment, adapt, and think creatively.

It applies to almost everything. Leadership. Strategy. Writing. Problem solving.

The early reps may feel repetitive.

They are also what make the interesting work possible later.

I missed saying goodbye to my cousin on her deathbed because I wanted to finish my work first.

I told myself I'd go right after. 

Just one more task. Just one more email. Just one more hour.

I figured I would get completely done with my work and then have a ‘clean slate’ to say goodbye.

I missed her by two hours.

TWO HOURS.

I don't even remember what I was working on that day, four years ago.

Couldn't tell you the client. Couldn't tell you the project. 
It's completely gone from my memory.

But I will never forget that I wasn't there.

She was gone by the time I arrived. 
And I have to live with that forever.

I tell this story because I know I'm not the only one who's made work feel more urgent than it actually is.

The deadlines feel real. 
The pressure feels real. 
The voice that says "just finish this first" feels reasonable.

It's not.

The work will still be there tomorrow. 
The people in your life might not be.

I learned this two hours too late.

Don't make the same mistake.

The work will always be there. 

People won't.

A client once told me I was "too expensive."
I thanked them and moved on.

They came back 6 months later and paid my full rate.

No discount. No negotiation. No "let's meet in the middle."

Full price.

Here's what happened in those 6 months:

They hired someone cheaper. It didn't work out. 
The work was late, off-brand, and needed to be redone. 
They wasted time managing someone who couldn't deliver.

Then they came back to me.

"I should've just hired you the first time."
I hear this more than you'd think.

When someone says you're too expensive, they're not saying you're bad. 
They're saying they don't see the value yet.

That's fine. Let them learn.

Some clients need to try the cheap option first. 

They need to feel the pain of bad work before they understand what good work costs.

Your job isn't to convince them. 

Your job is to be there when they're ready.

I don't chase. I don't justify. I don't lower my rates to make people comfortable.

I thank them, wish them well, and move on.

The ones who get it come back. 

The ones who don't were never your client anyway.

Hold the line. The right clients will meet you there.

The worst part of freelancing isn't the work. It's the hunt.

I'm eliminating the hunt.

I told myself: if I ever figure this out, I'm making it easier for other people.

I audited a founder's LinkedIn last week. It was costing him clients.

Fixed 3 things in 15 minutes. He booked 2 calls that week.

Not from posting. Not from outreach. 

Just from people landing on his profile and actually understanding what he does.

Here's what was broken:

1. His headline was his job title.
"CEO at [Company Name]"
Cool. What does that mean for me? Why should I care? Who do you help?
I rewrote it to speak to his ideal client. Now people land on his profile and immediately know if they're in the right place. (And we even kept the CEO bit)

2. His About section was a resume.
"20 years of experience in enterprise software..."
Nobody cares. Your About section isn't for you. It's for them. What problem do you solve? What happens if they work with you?

I rewrote it like a sales page. First person. Clear outcome. One call to action.

3. No Featured section.
Prime real estate. Completely empty.
I had him add one link: book a call. That's it. One clear next step for anyone who's ready.

Three changes. 15 minutes. Two calls that same week.

Your profile is working 24/7. 

People are checking it before they respond to your DM, accept your connection, or hire you.

If it's not generating leads, it's leaking them.

I closed a $10K deal while hiding in my bathroom because my kids were screaming in the background.

Nobody talks about what building a business actually looks like.

The Instagram version: "Manifested my dream life. Laptop on the beach. Freedom lifestyle. 🌴"

The real version: I'm sitting on a closed toilet lid, AirPods in, trying to sound professional while my kids argue about whose turn it is on the Xbox.

"So yes, I'd love to discuss your LinkedIn content strategy…"

Muffled screaming. Something crashes.

"MOM! HE'S NOT SHARING!"

Mute button. Deep breath. Unmute.

"Sorry, where were we?"
Closed the deal anyway. 🙃

This is the part nobody posts about.

The calls you take from your car because it's the only quiet place. 
The proposals you write at 11pm because the day was chaos. 
The client work you squeeze in between homework help and bedtime negotiations.

Building a business while raising kids isn't glamorous. 

It's messy and exhausting and sometimes you hide in the pantry with a glass of wine.

But it's also mine.

I built this thing around my life. Not the other way around.

Some days I feel like I'm crushing it. Other days I'm literally hiding in the bathroom.

Both versions of me run a 7-figure business.

If you're building something while also keeping humans alive, I see you. 
It's hard. 

You're not doing it wrong.

You're just doing it real.

My post this morning flopped.
Posting again anyway.

Some days you win. Some days the algorithm humbles you. 

The game is not quitting either way.

I've been posting on LinkedIn for a while now. 
I've had posts hit 500K impressions. I've had posts hit 500.

Same person. Same content strategy. Same brain.

Here's what I know:

The people who build audiences aren't the ones who hit home runs every time. 
They're the ones who keep stepping up to bat after they strike out.

One flop doesn't mean your content sucks. 
It means you posted on a Thursday and Mercury is in retrograde and who the hell knows why LinkedIn does what it does.

You can't control the algorithm. 
You can control whether you show up tomorrow.

I've seen people quit after one bad week. 
"LinkedIn doesn't work for me."

No. You just stopped before it started working.

The secret to this whole game? Don't stop.

Post when it bangs. 
Post when it flops. 
Post when you're tired and uninspired and wondering if anyone's even paying attention.

Someone is. They're just not ready to engage yet.

My post flopped this morning. I'll be back tomorrow.
That's the whole strategy.

The person you're jealous of online?

They just posted for the 300th time while you're still "figuring out your strategy."

They didn't have it figured out either. They just started. Then they kept going.

No perfect plan. No perfect content. Just reps.

You're not behind because you're less talented. You're behind because you haven't started. Or you started and stopped.

The strategy is simple: post, learn, repeat.

300 times from now, someone will be jealous of you.

But only if you keep going.

I said yes to a $150 project last week.
EVERY SINGLE coach or guru would tell you that's a mistake.

They are wrong.

Everyone preaches "know your worth" and "never take low-paying work." 
And most of the time, they're right.

But here's what they leave out: context matters.

This $150 project took me 15 minutes.

That's $600/hour.

I didn't have to learn anything new. 
Didn't have to sit through a discovery call. 
Didn't have to write a proposal or chase an invoice. 

Just quick work from someone who reached out to me.

In and out. Paid.

"Low-paying" is relative.

A $500 project that takes 10 hours? 
That's $50/hour. Bad deal.

A $150 project that takes 15 minutes? 
That's easy money.

The math isn't always about the number on the invoice. 
It's about what you're trading for it.

Time. Energy. Sanity. Opportunity cost.
Some small projects are traps. 

They eat your calendar and leave you too drained for the big stuff.

Some small projects are gifts. 

Quick cash, minimal effort, and you're done before lunch.

Know the difference.

Not every $150 is beneath you. 
And not every $5K project is worth it.

Pay attention to the math and make your own choices.

A CEO asked why nobody engages with his posts.

I read the first line of his last 5 posts. That was the problem.

His hooks were:

→ "I've been thinking a lot about leadership lately..." 
→ "Here's something I learned this week..." 
→ "I wanted to share some thoughts on AI..."

Scroll. Scroll. Scroll.

Nobody's stopping for that. 

Your first line is the ONLY line that matters. 

If it doesn't stop the scroll, nothing else you wrote matters.

Here's what works:

1. Specific numbers "I made $47K last year. I'll make $200K this year. One thing changed."
Numbers stop thumbs. Specific beats vague every time.

2. Unexpected contradiction "I raised my prices 3x. Got more clients, not less."
The brain can't scroll past something that doesn't make sense.

3. Open a loop "A client fired me last month. Best thing that ever happened."
Wait what? Now I have to know why.

4. Bold statement "Your LinkedIn profile is costing you clients."
Direct hit. If they care about clients, they're reading.

5. Confession "I almost quit freelancing last year."
Vulnerability stops the scroll. We're wired for honesty.

The CEO rewrote his hooks using these frameworks. 

Engagement doubled in two weeks.

Your content might be incredible. 

But if your hook is boring, nobody will ever find out.

First line or nothing.

DM me "HOOKS" if you want me to look at yours.

I've made over 7 figures and parent two children without caffeine.

Most people lose their minds about the last thing. "But HOW do you function??"

Because I’m not addicted to caffeine. Therefore, I don’t need it or crave it. 

The same way people functioned for thousands of years before Starbucks existed.

I've never liked coffee. Never needed it. 

Never had some dramatic moment where I quit. Just never started.

And yet when I tell people this, they look at me like I said I don't breathe oxygen.

"Not even tea??"
Nope.
"Energy drinks??"
Nope.

"So you just... wake up and exist??"
Yes. That's literally what I do. 🙃

I'm not superhuman. 
Today I'm a mess with 3 tabs open pretending to be a boss.

But I don't reach for a coffee. I never have. I just keep going.

Some days I crush it. Some days I stare at my screen wondering how I'm in charge of anything.

Both versions of me exist without caffeine. 

I'm not saying coffee is bad. Drink your bean juice. 

I'm just saying it's not the secret to productivity. 

Consistency is. Showing up tired is. 

Doing the work even when you don't feel like it is.

That's the whole strategy.

No coffee required.

Now tell me: are you team caffeine or team unhinged like me?

I've met people more talented than me who gave up after six months. 

Better writers. Better strategists. Better everything.

They're not freelancing anymore.

I'm still here.

Not because I'm special. 

Because I kept going when it stopped making sense. 

When the clients weren't coming. When the posts flopped. 

When I questioned everything.

I just didn't stop.

Most people quit right before it clicks. 

They post for two months, see nothing, and decide it doesn't work. 

They pitch for a few weeks, get rejected, and assume they're not cut out for this.

They were close. They just didn't know it.

The difference between the freelancers who make it and the ones who don't isn't talent. 

It's tolerance!

Tolerance for rejection. 
Tolerance for silence. 
Tolerance for the long stretch where nothing seems to be working.

That's it. 

You don't have to be the best. 

You just have to be the one still standing when everyone else walks away.

They're top of mind when someone needs what they do.

You're a secret. 
They're a billboard.

I used to get frustrated watching less experienced people land clients I deserved. 

Then I realized: they didn't deserve them less. 
They just showed up more.

So I started showing up.

Posted when I didn't feel like it. 
Posted when I had nothing groundbreaking to say.
Posted when it felt like no one was watching.

Eventually, people were watching.

Now clients come to me. 

That's not luck. That's a choice I made over and over again.

You can keep being the best-kept secret in your industry. 

Or you can start playing the visibility game.

Your talent got you here. Visibility is what gets you paid.

Some weeks I have no idea what I'm doing.

I post anyway.

Turns out nobody has it all figured out.

There are weeks where everything clicks. 

Clients are happy. Content is flowing. Pipeline is full. 
I feel like I've cracked the code.

Then there are weeks where nothing makes sense. 

A post flops. A client ghosts. A strategy that worked last month suddenly doesn't. 
I stare at my screen wondering if I actually know anything at all.

Both versions of me run the same business.

I used to think the successful people had it figured out. 

That there was some level you reach where the doubt disappears and everything just works.

There isn't.

The people you admire? They're guessing too. 
They just don't stop when it gets confusing.

The difference between people who make it and people who don't isn't certainty. 

It's continuing without it.

If you're in a week where nothing makes sense, you're not behind. You're just in it.

Keep going. Everyone's winging it. 

Some of us are just louder about it.

You'll binge 10 episodes of a show you don't even like.

But you won't spend 20 minutes on your LinkedIn profile.

You'll scroll Instagram for an hour looking at strangers' vacations.
But you won't write a post that could land your next client.

You'll rewatch The Office for the fifth time.
But you won't update your headline to actually say what you do.

We have time. 

We just don't prioritize the things that feel uncomfortable.

Your LinkedIn profile is working 24/7. 

People are checking it before they hire you, reply to your DM, or accept your connection request.

And most profiles look like they were written in 2020 and never touched again.

Update your headline to speak to who you help. 

Rewrite your About section like a sales page, not a resume. 

Add a Featured section with a clear CTA.

A few minutes of discomfort now. 
Months of inbound leads later.

You have time for Netflix. 
You have time for this.

The question isn't whether you have time.

It's whether you'll keep avoiding the thing that could actually change your business.

Your profile is either working for you or against you.

Right now, which one is it?

Two clients this year came from DMs that started with "I've been watching you for months."

It's only February.

I never knew they existed until they were ready to pay.
No likes. No comments. No engagement whatsoever. Just silence.

Then out of nowhere: 
"Hey, I've been following your content for a while. I'm ready to work together."

No convincing. No pitch. No discovery call where I have to prove myself.
Just "I'm ready."

This is what people don't understand about content.
The metrics lie. The likes don't tell the full story. 

The people who engage the most are rarely the ones who buy.

Your real audience is invisible.
They're screenshotting your posts. 

Sending them to their business partner. Saving them for later. 

Waiting until the budget is there or the timing is right.

You'll never know they're watching. 

Until they are ready.

Two clients in two months from people I didn't know existed.

That's not luck. 

That's what happens when you show up consistently and let trust build in the background.

Your next client is watching right now. They're not going to like this post. 

They're not going to comment.

But they're watching.

Keep posting for them.
