Because of my own struggles with anxiety and sleep issues, I've spent over 20 years researching anxiety and how it affects every part of our life. I teach resilience as a skill that can be learned, practiced, and incorporated into daily living.

I am different than many speakers/presenters – I am an Integrative Hypnotist.  What the heck is that?  It’s hypnosis and a gazillion other modalities all integrated to find the best way to help people rewire and retrain their brains so they can break free from the chains of stress and anxiety.

I am also the author of “Goodbye Anxiety, Hello Freedom,” with 35 simple ways to calm stress and anxiety.

My first career was as Celebrity Radio DJ “Stevie Knox.” My radio morning show had me spinning into insomnia. I was also a mom to two small kids at the time & I realized I had suffered my entire life from anxiety but didn't know it. The medication worked for a short time & then stopped and things went from bad to worse. I knew I needed to find a way out of the prison of anxiety, so I began researching holistic & natural ways to calm my stress and anxiety. 

I found hypnosis & everything changed. I felt a sense of peace I had never experienced; I was dealing with life better (my husband had been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness) & I knew I had a mission to help others with this knowledge. I began using my voice to literally hypnotize my clients to make incredible life changes just as I had used my voice on the radio to bring listeners back day after day.

Hypnosis is not what we see on TV and in the movies.  It is a powerful way to access our subconscious mind – and THAT is where REAL change happens.

My Business Insider article is live today. Academia handed me a question I didn’t expect: Do I need to look more professor-y?

Last year, I taught three classes at two business schools and spent more than 100 hours in the classroom. Apparently, that doesn’t automatically make me look like a professor.

A few times at business events, after I said I teach marketing, someone turned to the person next to them and said, “Can you believe she’s a professor?”My friend jumped in: “She just looks young.”

Thanks, Mom, for my DNA and for putting me on eye cream at 14.

One time, someone asked where I teach and whether it was an accredited institution. I never quite knew what he was trying to verify, but the disbelief was hard to miss.

It made me wonder if people cared more about whether I looked the part than how I actually teach. And whether I needed to trade in my cherry-print dresses and Mary Janes for a black blazer and a more serious face.

I wrote about my mini identity crisis, and what changed when I stopped trying to fit someone else’s idea of a professor and started showing up as myself.
