Meanwhile, I'm over here struggling to write some posts and respond to 9 messages before lunch.

Here's the thing...

These posts aren't about being accurate.
They're about sounding impressive.

Big numbers = authority, right?

Except when you do the maths, it falls apart faster than my New Year's resolutions.

"I've analysed 1.2 million headlines and found the ONE pattern that works."

Did you though?

Or did you scroll through 17 posts, notice a trend, and multiply by 25,361 because it sounded better?

The wild part?

People eat this up this nonsense!!

Comments full of "wow" and "thanks for sharing."
Like nobody's got a calculator!!?!

Look, I get it.

LinkedIn rewards bullsh..... errrr I mean, confidence!

But there's a difference between confident and delusional.

You don't need to analyse half a million anything to have something valuable to say.

You just need one good insight.

One real experience.

One thing you actually learned.

That's worth more than all the made-up metrics combined.

So next time you see someone claiming they've "tested 10,897 hooks" or "sent 552,108 cold emails by hand," just remember...

They probably spent more time calculating that fake number than actually doing the work.

The people getting ignored right now were always boring!

AI just helped them be boring faster!!

Here's what I think is actually happening...

Your connections are becoming selective.

They're only engaging with posts that feel human.

Posts with personality.

Posts from people who clearly wrote them, not tools.

If your engagement's dropped, it's not the platform.

It's people actively choosing not to read your stuff.

The fix isn't better AI prompts.

It's developing something worth saying.

Use your own experiences.
Your actual observations.
The things you've learned that other people haven't.

AI can help you write faster or cleaner up rough drafts.

But it can't give you a perspective.

Your audience isn't looking for perfect posts.

They're looking for REAL ones.

If people are scrolling past your content, the problem isn't the algorithm.

It's that they're bored of you!

Here's what actually happens when you stop hiding behind a corporate persona...

Last month, a prospect told one of my clients: "We got three proposals, yours wasn't the cheapest. But I've been reading your posts for six months, and I like how you think."

He closed the deal.

A SaaS founder I work with posted about a failed product launch, what happened, what they learned, how it felt and how it's changed the business.

A couple of days later, an engineer from Google sent a DM that read something like...

"That post really hit home with me, please let me know when you're hiring, I'd be interested"

No recruiter fees.
Just one honest post that attracted someone who would've cost £40K to find.

Your company brand gets you in the room.

You don't need to post every day or become some Hormozi style content machine if that's not you.

Because you had nothing to say before you opened ChatGPT!!

I see it everywhere now.

The Copy-Paste Epidemic.

Someone types "write me a LinkedIn post about leadership" and hits publish without a single original thought.

The result is content so generic it could be written by anyone, for anyone, about anything.

And LinkedIn's algorithm is finally catching on. It's deprioritising this stuff into oblivion.

Here's what most people miss:

AI doesn't replace having a point of view.
It amplifies the one you already have.

Watch the difference:

GENERIC AI SLOP:
"Leadership is about inspiring your team to achieve their goals."

SPECIFIC POINT OF VIEW:
"I fired my top performer last week. She hit every metric but destroyed team morale. Turns out individual brilliance means nothing when it costs you three other people."

One sounds like every other post.
The other makes people stop and think.

GENERIC AI SLOP:
"Consistency is key to growing your personal brand."

SPECIFIC POINT OF VIEW:
"I posted daily for 90 days and got zero traction. Then I posted once a week with actual insights from client calls. My engagement tripled because I finally had something worth saying."

The pattern?

Bland posts talk about concepts.
Magnetic posts share specific truths.

If you're using AI to avoid thinking, your content will always be forgettable.

But if you use it to articulate what you already know?

That's when it becomes powerful.

The tool isn't the problem.
Your lack of perspective is.

What's one specific belief you have that most people in your industry would disagree with?

That's your next post.

Most creators treat content like a hamster wheel.

New day.
New idea.
New panic about what to post.

I did this for 5 years!!

Burned through notebooks trying to find "the perfect angle" every single morning.

Some days I'd stare at a blank screen for an hour.

Doom scroll and then get a little angry with myself!

Then I watched a creator I respected post about the same topic for three weeks straight.

Different formats.
Different frames.
Same core message.

She wasn't lazy.
She was strategic.

That's when it clicked.

The best creators aren't idea machines.

They're multiplication experts.

Now I take one solid concept and turn it into a week's worth of content in 90 minutes.

No burnout.
No blank-screen panic.

Here's how it works.

Start with something specific you actually know.

→ Not "productivity" but "how to stop checking your phone first thing in the morning."

→ Not "marketing" but "writing cold emails that actually get responses."

That specificity matters.
Vague topics produce vague content.

Once you've got your concept, you're not writing nine random posts...
You're building nine different entry points to the same idea.

Some people need to see themselves in a story before they'll listen.

So you write about your own struggle with that exact problem.

Make it specific enough that they think "wait, is this person reading my mind?"

Others need permission to think differently.

They're stuck in old beliefs.
So you challenge conventional wisdom.
Take a stand.

"Your problem isn't discipline. Your environment is working against you."

Some readers want the mechanics.

They don't care about your journey.

They want the step-by-step breakdown.

Give them the exact process you'd walk a client through.

Then there are people who don't even realise they have the problem yet.

They just know something feels off.

Write the post that mirrors their daily frustration so accurately they stop scrolling.

For the action-takers, skip the philosophy entirely.

Pure execution. "Do this, then this, then this." No fluff.

Lists work because our brains love patterns...

5 signs you're... or 7 ways to...

It's predictable, but predictable gets shared.

Comparison posts create before-and-after clarity.

Show the contrast between the old way and your way. People need to see the gap before they'll bridge it.

Myth-busting builds authority fast.

Find the advice everyone gives that actually makes things worse.

Explain why.
Offer the alternative.

And some people need to see the destination before they'll start the journey.

Paint the outcome.
Show what's possible when they apply this thing you're teaching.

Same core idea.
Nine different angles.
Nine different types of readers.

You're not repeating yourself.
You're making sure your message actually lands.

One focused concept.
A full week of content.
Zero creative burnout.

I see middle aged men happily destroy themselves on a spin bike for 45 minutes.

Sweat everywhere.
Heart rate through the roof.
Fully committed.

Ask the same men to:
• Post 3 times a week
• Send 5 DMs a day
• Stick at it for 90 days

Suddenly it is “not really my thing” and “I do not want to annoy people”.

You will hammer your body in a dark room to feel better.
 
But you will not build a simple habit that could take you from relying on referrals to having a reliable pipeline.

Here is what I have learned from the gym and from LinkedIn:

Discipline in small, boring things is what changes your life.

For founders on here that looks like:
• 20 minutes a day to write or approve a post
• 15 minutes to talk to people in the comments like a human
• 15 minutes to DM the ones who clearly get it

Not inspirational.
Not sexy.

But it is how you go from zero leads all year to:
• A small number of good conversations every week
• Options
• A little less panic when an existing client leaves

If you can commit to the bike but not to your own pipeline, your priorities are backwards.

→ Entrepreneurship threads from people who've never missed payroll or stayed up wondering how to make it through the month.
→ Scaling advice from consultants who've studied the playbook but never played the game.

Most LinkedIn business experts are book reporters, not battlefield survivors.

They've read about business.
They haven't bled for one.

There's a difference between studying war and surviving it.

Theory makes you sound smart at networking events.
Experience makes you dangerous in the real world.

Real experience is messy.
It doesn't fit in a carousel.
You can't package years of trial and error into a clean 10-step system.

If you're a founder, CEO, or business owner, you've got something most people don't:

Actual stories.
Real decisions.
Lived consequences.

That's your content goldmine.

Not the frameworks you memorised.
Not the articles you read.
The problems you actually solved.

So here's my filter for whose advice I actually take:

Have they survived what I'm facing?
Not studied it.
Survived it.

If the answer is no, their advice is theory.
And theory doesn't keep the lights on.

Stop following people who've read about the game.
Start following people who've survived it.

Battle scars beat book notes every single time.

Here’s the thing.

With social media you leave a digital footprint.

This can either be a very good thing.

Or it can work out to be quite inconvenient.

If you’re inconsistent.

Or worse…

You’re a duplicitous, hypocritical liar who constantly lives by double standards, deception and deceit!

There’s lessons in this for leaders.

Not just global leaders.

Business owners of businesses of all sizes too.

Social media can be used in an incredibly useful number of ways.

- grow your network
- build an audience
- build connection.
- generate leads
- attract candidates
- launch products or services
- build relationships with investors.
- it can even help you get elected!

The list goes on.

But there are some unwritten rules.

Don’t make up stuff.
Don’t call out people then commit the same offence.
Don’t be an idiot!!
Be honest.
Be open.
Be authentic
Add value
Entertain.
Inform

In a nutshell, try and be of use in some way to the audience you want to appeal to!

Do that consistently and boy it can be powerful and can elevate you to levels you weren’t ever expecting!

Now if you’re a leader of a country…

The last thing you want to do is continually spout virtue signalling, overly polished “mis-truths” and ok, I’ll say it…

Lies.

Because eventually, it’ll be noticed.

Highlighted.

And you’re gonna get called out.

If you demand standards of your competitors that you continually fall below…

Yup…

You’re going to get called out!

We all make mistakes.

One or two things here and there, that’s normal.

You’re human.

But monumental, impactful mistakes over and over?

Not forgivable!

What would a gentleman do?

Fall on his sword.

Hold his hands up and take it like a man!

What would a weak man with no spine, morals, vision or true leadership do?

Continue to lie.

Until he’s forced out.

That’s not leadership folks.

It’s an absolute disgrace.

Britain deserves better.

Budget Day reality check…

If your plan is “wait for Rachel Reeves to fix my life”, you haven’t got a plan, you’ve got a fantasy.


In the last decade we’ve added hundreds of thousands of people into the public sector – civil servants, NHS, quangos, the lot.

More headcount.
More cost.

And yet:

• Trains don’t work
• GP access is a joke
• A&E is broken
• Schools are on their knees
• Transport network is useless
• Every major project takes years to get through planning.

We are spending more than ever.

All this “black hole” bullsh*t

Successive Govts failing us.

Everything feels worse than ever.

And now we’ve got a leftist government that seems to actively dislike wealth creators.

Madness!

So what happens?

The real engine of the country quietly leaves.

Not just the billionaires and non-doms.

I am also talking about the 25–35 year olds who should be the next generation of founders, leaders and senior operators.

The ones who would start businesses, build teams, pay tax, create opportunity.

They look at the numbers and think:

“I can’t buy a house.”
“I’m on six figures and still stuck.”
“Why am I doing this here?”

So they leave.

Who can blame them?

If I was in my twenties now, I’d probably be gone too.

And this is criminal, to me, because this is an amazing country.

Just currently run by people who have never had to sign a personal guarantee or make payroll.

There is a quote that sums up to me, where we are…


Hard times create strong men.
Strong men create good times.
Good times create weak men.
Weak men create bad times.


We are deep in the “weak men, bad times” chapter.

You can either sit and rage about it…

Or you can take responsibility for the bit you control.

You cannot control:

• Tax policy
• Civil service bloat
• Who is in Number Ten

You can control:

• Your skills
• Your offers
• Who you sell to
• Where you live
• Your mindset and attitude
• How visible you are to the people who can actually pay you

That might mean:

• Moving country
• Changing industry
• Starting something new
• Killing something that is dying
• Finally getting serious about telling your story and building your name so you are not at the mercy of one employer or one government

Less state reliance.
More self reliance.

You won’t fix Westminster.
You can fix your pipeline, your positioning and your options.

That part is on you.

And sure, you'll hit more people.

But you'll also become forgettable.
More bland.
Robotic!

Because relationships aren't built on volume.

Genuine interest.
Timing.

The thing people actually remember isn't how many times you reached out.

Or what you write about.

It's whether you understood them.
Whether you added value without asking for anything.

Now it is nearly the end of the year and the script has changed to "I will sort it in January."

January has been carrying that lie for years.

A few years ago I was diagnosed with lymphoma.
 
It is fully managed. I am monitored.
 
I am not going anywhere any time soon.

But it changed how I see time.

It stopped being "I have decades to get round to that" and became...

"What am I actually doing with the time I have".

I realised I had been sleepwalking through parts of my life.
 
Keeping things that were comfortable, not right.
 
Delaying decisions that would have made me happier years ago.

You do not need a diagnosis to see it.

You see it when you keep a client you have outgrown
Tolerate a job that drains you
Tell yourself you will "do LinkedIn properly next year"

While another year disappears.

Meanwhile, your thirties, forties, fifties are not on pause.

This is why I care so much about founders sharing their real stories now.

Not when the government gets its act together.
Not when the economy "stabilises".
Not when you finally feel ready.

The best time to build a personal brand was ten years ago.
 
The second best time is right now!

One honest post.
One clear offer.
One decision to show up as yourself.

Proving to my grown up kids that you do not tap out in your fifties.

I am 55.

My kids are 26 and 23.

I am step dad to two more, 16 and 13.

They do not need me to cut up their food or pay for every single thing.

What they need is to see what trying looks like.

What resilience is.

All I have ever asked of them is simple.

Be the best you can be with what you have.

Do not coast.

Do not give up on yourself.

So I have to live that as well.

That is what this business is for me.

It is not just a way to pay bills.

It is me rebuilding, learning new skills, starting again at 55, getting things wrong in public and then coming back again.

I have not always got it right as a dad.

No parent has.

But it has never been for lack of effort.

On the whole, I’ve done ok.

That, to me, is what separates people I respect from people I do not.

The ones I respect:
	
1.	Keep turning up when it would be easier to disappear
2.	Admit when they get it wrong
3.	Stay curious instead of pretending they know it all

Because the minute you decide you know everything, you start sliding backwards.

The market moves.

Tech jumps forward.

Your kids grow into adults with opinions of their own.

The only thing that really lasts is who you are when all of that shifts.

Your character.
Your values.
Your track record of getting back up.

That is why I write on LinkedIn.

That is why I work with founders, consultants and recruiters who are also still hitting life hard in their forties and fifties.

We are not here to look perfect.

We are here to keep trying, keep learning and set an example to the people watching us, even if they are old enough to buy their own house now.
