The University of Tennessee, Knoxville is a multi-organizational public land grant higher educational institution that employs over 9000+ employees, making it the 3rd largest employer in East Tennessee. 

During the Spring 2023 semester, I interned with the Office of Human Resources with an emphasis in the Learning and Organizational Development Department. As the first intern ever hosted in the newly restructured department, I received the opportunity to play a large role in the molding process in the launch of employee development-related initiatives. 

Below I have highlighted some key contributions: 

• Expanded expertise in adult learning by shadowing staff development sessions across the organization
• Consulted with a cross-functional onboarding HR team to successfully collaborate with 10+ campus departments, resulting in project completion 3 weeks before deadline 
• Leveraged Articulate to automate in-person monthly new-hire orientation into a virtual asynchronous experience institution-wide, resulting in a 20% internal bi-weekly workflow efficiency improvement 
• Collaborated with Leadership Consultant to help launch UTK's new leadership development program: New Leader’s Advantage
• Developed a training manual on the leading LMS system, Articulate Rise 360, to provide guiding instructional support to 40+ human resources professionals

Human Resources Intern

Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU)

I remember when I first officially met Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). It was a warm summer day on campus and I was touring the campus. After the tour, I remember feeling touched by the experience and knew right then that MTSU was the school I wanted to attend. My enthusiasm for the school carried over to my execution of this role:
 
 • Despite onboarding to the university during a Pandemic I was 1 of 40 students out of an applicant pool of 250+ chosen to serve as an official representative of MTSU within my first year
• I received a record number of positive feedback surveys from guest and prospective students
• Delivered a personalized tour experience to tour groups of 20-60 prospective students on the academics and student life at MTSU, which later earned me the "Best Humor" award
• I was 1 of 4 tour guides selected to represent MTSU nationally in Washington D.C. at the "2022 Student Development Institute
• Awarded "Most True Blue" by peer vote because of my exemplary representation of the institution while working with guests on tours
• Facilitated presentations to groups of 20+ on basic admissions policies and scholarships
• Aided large-scale recruitment efforts by traveling around the Eastern region with campus executives on the "True Blue Tour" initiative

My love for developing student talent is grounded in this role. Below I have featured some of my highlights from this role: 

• Coordinated with 5-7 fellow PCA to monitor a shared email account with a high frequency of messages
• Reviewed over 200+ resumes, cover letters, and grad school documents per semester
• Maintained a 100% success rate with meeting the document review time guarantee  
• Assisted drop-in students with career development questions
• Scheduled meetings for walk-in students with our full-time staff on Navigate
• Mentored 3 new PCAs during their onboarding process in my second year in the position
• Delivered excellent phone communication with external clients, like campus recruiters and area organizations

As a transfer student during the COVID-19 pandemic, I did not receive a formal orientation at the University. My transfer experience empowered me to work hard to ensure future students would receive a stronger initial connection to the school. My determination and enthusiasm for this job are highlighted by a few of my key accomplishments:
• Awarded the Annual Gina Poff SOA of the Year Award in 2021 for my outstanding commitment to the 200+ students I worked with that summer
• Successfully learned 200+ facts about MTSU
• Awarded "Most True Blue" during staff retreat due to willingness to engage with everyone within in our team
• Maintained an active communication network with 300+ students total via group messaging platform 
• Engaged and mentored groups of 10 - 18 students throughout the complex orientation process
• Co-trained and orientated 3 SOAs into the organization
