I am a gastroenterologist, physician leader, clinical administrator, informatics physician, academic, and advisor.

Committed to the greater good, I write here and at Forbes to connect the dots, spark thoughtful conversations, and learn from and connect with others who share a passion for improving healthcare.

Sitting at the intersection of clinical practice, operations, and technology, I enjoy explaining how healthcare works and imagining how it can work better. 

I am fascinated by how artificial intelligence and other digital technologies are reshaping medicine. I am also particularly interested in redesigning specialty care.

I aim to integrate mind and body in both clinical practice and life. 

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, music, sports, reading, and swimming, most of all in the ocean.

I care for adults with acute and chronic GI conditions – particularly those with disorders of gut-brain interaction (e.g., IBS) and motility (e.g., gastroparesis) – in inpatient, outpatient, and procedural settings. 

I've served as site-PI for 20+ clinical trials and co-authored national constipation practice guidelines. I write and present on topics related to care delivery.

We started Proscia to bring AI to pathology. We're helping our community accelerate advanced therapies and deliver better diagnostics to fulfill the promise of precision medicine. Proscia powers 16/20 top biopharma companies and the largest labs globally, diagnosing 20,000 patients per day. Our products are used by 12,000 pathologists and scientists at large pharma, CROs, hospitals, private labs, and academic medical centers.

Over the last 10 years, AI models have reached a human baseline of performance on a variety of tasks. And the rate of progress is accelerating.

What does this look like in high-judgment expert fields like pathology?

The next wave of technology will either reduce burden, preserve diagnostic focus, and elevate the practice - or it will shift pathologists away from clinical decision-making entirely and relegate labs to a back-end service.

We have a narrow window to get this right, and the longer the medical community sits on the sidelines of this conversation, the more likely someone else defines what pathology looks like in 3 years.
