I'm a long-time data leader, currently leading ReportingApplications.com, a consulting company focused on building - you guessed it - Reporting Applications.

We believe there’s an art to building great reporting applications, but not many people have focused on this area deeply enough to become experts.

Prior to starting ReportingApplications.com I was the founder of Delivery Layer - a SaaS product that powered customer facing reporting applications.

Before that I was VP of Data Strategy at Helium 10 where I led all things data (Data Engineering, Data Science, Data Product Development and Analytics). I previously ran product & analytics with P&L responsibility for Nielsen Sports, the global leader in Sports Sponsorship data.
  
Early in my career I ended up with the mix of statistical, business analysis and programming skills that would turn into the ideal background for a data scientist. Since then, I've been leading data teams, building data products and running data businesses.

My philosophy is that data isn't the hero - it's the sidekick. It's only valuable if it improves the lives of your customers, or helps someone make better decisions.

I work with stakeholders across the company to create the underlying data and then reports and dashboards that drive decisions and actions within the company using Power BI and SQL Server.

As a contractor, I worked on a project migrate off of Domo into Power BI.  I performed a POC around Power BI which was successful.  I  then worked to create a dimensional model in Power BI and convert some 40+ Key Management reports to Power BI from Domo.  I then created daily automated feeds to the dimensional model and then worked to create incremental loads that ran hourly to the model.  This project went well and when offered a full-time position I accepted.

I have spent the last 10+ years in technology management, and while I don't claim to be a great manager I certainly tried every day to be one. 

I believe that sustained success is the result of investing in people and investing time and effort into growing the capabilities of a team. 

I have a background in data and believe it is a key element in creating effective feedback loops.  I believe in focusing on value-add and then organizing everything else around the value add.

Contract work to help turn around a project that had fallen a little behind.  The project required the regular pulling of 30+ dimensional files and over 110+ various attributes. I partnered with project sponsors and other subject matter experts to identify sources of data and gather clarity around definitions of attributes.  Get data that was missing from the Snowflake Data Warehouse by meeting with various subject matter experts across the company to discover if/where the data was available, and often where necessary ingest excel files. Document business flows and prepare PowerPoint presentations and write unit tests.

Still one of the Software Development directors. However I have moved to work with a front end web group.  Still interested in data and have been working with our new teams to make data more of what we do from a web standpoint.  We are building more reporting via Jira, ELK, New Relic & Google Analytics with the goals of making it easy to quickly see how we are doing at any given time both currently and historically.

I am still working with Data Warehousing and improving our capabilities around data. We are continually expanding what functional area's are included in our warehouse.

I currently manage a team of developers who support our data warehousing and business intelligence initiatives. Our developers work with Data Stage, Micro Strategy, SAP Business Warehouse and will soon be working with Data Services.  Our group has also built a number of tools to enhance the applications listed above, as well as tools to enable the business with basic ETL functionality. 

We have a growing business intelligence community at Nu Skin, consequently our team has some pretty agressive goals. I find it is really exciting to work on projects that have a real ability to directly affect Nu Skin's growth. It is also fun to be apart of growing industry as more and more companies find a need for data driven decision making.

Development Manager

Administer our ETL application (DataStage), including backup, production rolls & monitoring of production jobs. Development work by designing ETL jobs using DataStage.  Coordinate all production changes between our team and the change board, system admins, database admins & application administrators. Over the last year we averaged about 17 production changes per month. Provide operational support for our production data as requested.

Global Market Support, Junior Administrator, System Outage Analyst. Develop contacts with foreign markets and act as tier two for System Support. Analyze IT systems, document architecture and process; create SLA’s with IT customers. Administer basic needs for Atlas (Universe), SAP and Microsoft domain servers. Continue to provide reports via crystal reports for team and management.

It is important to me to make real difference with my time, so I focus my efforts on adding value as much as possible. I try to add value to my companies culture, processes and people. 

I believe the trick to adding great value is to not be too picky about the types of roles one plays even if it is outside of ones job responsibilities.  Every project/initiative has gaps that need to get filled or that are being neglected.  Often these gaps constitute work that many consider beneath them or simply less desirable.  

I am happy helping where I can including facilitating meetings, interfacing with business users, writing up technical requirements, coming up with architecture, developing software, handling support and operations, organizing workloads, negotiating timelines, developing product road maps, mentoring, holding crucial conversations....or just about any other role. 

Regardless of the role I am motivated when I can see a clear path for the desired benefits and for a programs continued success.
