I know you’re probably curious about my name — April Strong.
It’s not my birth name. I was born Vijayalakshmi.

In 2019, my life fell apart. And in April 2020, one quiet afternoon, something shifted.
I felt strong — not in a motivational way, but in a soul-deep way. Like I was being reborn.

I no longer wanted the identity I had outgrown. So I created a new one — to honor who I was becoming.

A 13-second clip shows a child panicking in a pool, clinging to a rope. His sister steps in, gently lifts him. One calm moment later, he’s standing steadily. The water was barely deep at all.

The danger was never real.
The fear was.
This small moment perfectly mirrors what overthinking looks like in life and at work.

The rope was meant to help, but it became a crutch.
Fear froze action, even when the solution was simple.

One shift in perspective changed everything.
That’s exactly how overthinking works.

We cling to assumptions instead of checking facts.
We imagine worst-case outcomes before testing reality.
We stay mentally “bent over,” never realizing we can simply stand up.
In professional life, this shows up as:

SRK’s iconic arms-spread pose is what psychologists call a 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗔𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗿, a behaviour so consistent that the audience’s brain stores it as identity.

Think about it:

Charlie Chaplin's toothbrush, moustache and bowler hat
SRK has this - the arms-wide-open silhouette

These anchors make someone instantly recognisable.
These anchors make someone instantly recognisable.

And the funniest proof?
When SRK was invited to speak at 𝗬𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆, everyone told him:
“Be formal. Be serious. No jokes today.”
He agreed.

Walked on stage.
And the dean quietly whispered:

Your Recall Anchor could be:

Everyone at the bus stop was doing the “right” thing, waiting patiently, staying dry, following the routine.

Until one person chose differently.
He stepped into the rain.
Not to rebel, but to experience the moment.
And something interesting happened.

Others followed, including a child who had been told to stop enjoying it.

A simple reminder for life and work alike:
We often postpone joy, satisfaction, and pride until milestones are met.

The promotion. The perfect plan. The right timing.
But growth doesn’t only happen in big wins.
It happens when we allow ourselves to feel present, now.

Progress is not just about moving forward.
It’s also about pausing to appreciate how far you’ve come.

𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆.
Because when you do, you lead quietly, humanly, and impactfully.

This week, during a conversation with my client, she said with a little upset in her voice
“April, I’m doing everything… but why is it taking so much time? Sometimes I feel like the universe just isn’t supporting me.”
She felt abandoned.
Unseen.
Overwhelmed.

So I played her this scene.
And I want to share it here too - because it holds one of the simplest, deepest truths about life:
𝗪𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀.
𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀.

When you pray for patience, you won’t receive patience.
You’ll receive moments that demand patience.
When you pray for courage, you’ll meet situations that force you to be brave.

When you pray for closeness, life won’t magically soften everyone…
It will give you a chance to choose love.

When the clip ended, what did you think? she said,
“So maybe God is supporting me… just not in the way I imagined.”
Exactly.

This scene is a reminder:
Life answers every prayer,
just not in the way we expect.

If you’re only going to read one post today, let it be this one.
You’ll know why in 10 seconds. 😭

In this clip, a guy walks into a room and casually asks:
“Is there a black person here?”
The Black woman freezes.
The white guy freezes.
Even the AIR freezes.

And just when you think the situation has reached maximum HR danger…

He picks up a black purse and proudly says:
“Found it!”

Ladies and gentlemen, this is what happens 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝗱𝗮𝘆.

No listening issue.
No bad intentions.
Just one poorly articulated word…
and boom - a whole alternate reality is created.

This is exactly how real-life misunderstandings happen too:
And honestly?

We’ve all been this guy at some point.
Said something harmless → sounded dangerous.
Said something normal → came out weird.
Said something simple → created a crisis.
Clear speech isn’t about sounding fancy.

It’s about not accidentally starting HR investigations at 9 am. 😅
If this has ever happened to you…
just know you’re in very, very good company.
And honestly?
We’ve all been this guy at some point -
one word away from accidental chaos. 😄

𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸.

This insight stayed with me from 𝗢𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗵 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘆’s talk.

When you’re focused only on how far you still have to go, every step feels exhausting.

The journey starts to feel heavier than it really is.
But Oprah reminds us of a simple mindset shift:
𝘱𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦, 𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘯 𝘢𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘧𝘢𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶’𝘷𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦.

That reflection does something powerful.
It turns effort into evidence.
Struggle into strength.
And doubt into momentum.

Progress isn’t meant to be ignored - it’s meant to fuel you.
Look back. Acknowledge yourself.

Then move forward with more belief than before.

People don’t doubt you because your idea is small.

Bill Gates was describing a future no one could even imagine and the room treated it like a joke.
Radio already existed.
Tape recorders already existed.

Why would anyone need “the internet”?
But here’s the truth:
• Every new idea looks unnecessary at first.
• Every breakthrough looks silly before it becomes obvious.
• Every builder gets laughed at before they get taken seriously.

If Bill Gates, Elon Musk, or any visionary had waited for approval, we wouldn’t have the world we have today.

So if people don’t believe you right now, if they find your idea strange, unrealistic, or “too much”…
Good.
Maybe you’re just early.
Keep going.

Without realising it, you’ve shifted from leading the conversation to seeking approval.

Confident communicators don’t ask for permission.
They invite participation without giving away ownership.

That’s why swapping it with phrases like:
 • “What part stands out to you?”
 • “Does this align with what you were thinking?”
 • “What’s your perspective on this?”
…changes the entire energy of the room.

“𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯, 𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯’𝘵 - 𝘺𝘰𝘶’𝘳𝘦 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵.” 𝘏𝘦𝘯𝘳𝘺 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘥

I recently came across a powerful insight shared by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗭𝗮𝗵𝗿𝗮𝗶 about a 1970s psychology experiment that quietly explains how mindset shapes our everyday experiences.

Psychology professor 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗞𝗹𝗲𝗰𝗸 once drew fake scars on people’s faces, let them see themselves in a mirror, and then secretly removed the scars before sending them into conversations with others.

Yet, participants later reported feeling judged, ignored, and treated differently - simply because they believed the scar was still there.

The scar was never real.
But the experience was.

That’s how many of us move through life.

We walk into meetings, interviews, relationships, social spaces, and new opportunities carrying invisible scars from past failures, criticism, rejection, comparison, or self-doubt, convinced others can see them.

What this experiment teaches us about mindset and life:

* 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲
If you walk in expecting judgment, your body language, tone, and energy reflect it. People don’t respond to your past; they respond to what you project in the present.

* 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗳𝗹𝗮𝘄𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀
It’s not allowing perceived weaknesses to run the narrative. A mistake, setback, or slow phase only becomes a scar if you keep defining yourself by it.

* 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲
When you doubt yourself, others sense hesitation. When you own your worth, people naturally respond with respect and openness.

Most people aren’t replaying your past failures or shortcomings. You are, and that internal story quietly limits your growth.

So how do you let go of the invisible scar?

– 𝗥𝗲𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲: I bring value. I am learning. I belong here.
– 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱: from “How am I being judged?” to “How can I contribute?”
– 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵: wins, progress, positive feedback - revisit them when doubt appears.
– 𝗔𝗰𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗶𝘁 - your mindset will follow your actions.

The people who grow the most aren’t free of scars.
They’ve simply stopped letting invisible ones decide how they show up.

Your past experiences don’t define you unless you keep carrying them into every new moment.

So pause before your next conversation, opportunity, or decision and ask yourself:
𝗔𝗺 𝗜 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲?

Because the moment you stop believing in it, it loses its power.

𝘝𝘊: 𝘖𝘱𝘦𝘯 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘦 𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘰

𝗦𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴.

Not because she wasn’t capable.
Not because she lacked experience.
But because she said,
“What if they ask something I don’t know?”

That’s when I shared this with her.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴.
It’s trusting yourself even when you don’t.

Science shows our brain doesn’t settle when we feel perfect - it settles when it feels safe.
Safe enough to think:
“I may not know this yet… but I’ll figure it out.”

“Oh yeah, I am putting the pressure of knowing everything”
No.
You just need to trust yourself.
