How to be a better designer remotely

Auto Layout feels confusing. How do I actually master it?

(I teach this to my students. Free for you today.)

Step 1: Stop using random frames.
Ex: No manual spacing, no messy layers.

Step 2: Add Auto Layout to the main container.
Ex: Cards, buttons, sections.

Step 3: Set spacing and padding once.
Ex: 16px gap, 24px padding. Let Figma handle the rest.

Step 4: Use hug, fill, and fixed the right way.
Ex: Buttons hug. Containers fill. Icons fixed.

Step 5: Test by resizing.
Ex: Stretch the screen. If it doesn’t break, you did it right.

If it still breaks, repeat steps 1 to 5.
