Led a couple of Stripe's most successful products from their early days (Stripe Connect, Stripe Terminal). Helped build the Product Management function at Stripe, as one of the early members of the PM team and as Stripe's first PM Manager. Led & grew several products at Twitter, Google, Yahoo, including some products & features you probably use daily / weekly.

Now, I advise startup founders, coach executives, do occasional speaking engagements, and teach.

Shreyas Doshi

A founder asked me in a recent advising call: “why do you teach?”

Here’s what I shared with him:

- It helps me scale my startup advising work: unfortunately, I cannot advise all the founders who reach out. In fact, I take very few formal advising roles, because I want to be certain it’s the right mutual fit (high growth company, fit with founder, challenging problems / huge opportunity, mutual availability). So my teaching is a great option for founders I cannot advise.

- I absolutely love it: in this next chapter of my career, I’ve decided to only work on things that I absolutely love. This means saying No to high prestige, rational opportunities (e.g. VC, leadership roles, podcasting, venture backed startup, etc.) Teaching is something I knew I wanted to do since my teenage years (at the time, I wanted to teach French, as I was very good at it in 10th grade). It isn’t for everyone and it is hard, but if it is for you, why not do it?

- It might be the best way *for me* to create further positive impact on our industry: to be clear, I don’t do anything because “I want to create a dent in the universe” (I know I won’t create any dent in the universe and will be forgotten shortly after I’m gone and I think that’s a wonderful thing, not something to be sad about). So while I am not teaching mainly to create a big impact, it is wonderful to read notes from 100s of students every month on how their products, teams, and their career are better off after taking my class. The total impact is hard to measure (and I am not going to try & measure it), but my gut says that the compounding impact from my teaching might be meaningful.

- I still get to solve fun product problems: one reason my teaching resonates strongly with some students is that I treat everything like a product. My (very small) team and I do more product thinking (and immediate application of that thinking) on a daily basis than I ever remember doing at Tier 1 companies I’ve worked at as a PM (reason: we are a tiny close-knit company and we view every problem through a product lens). This means exercising empathy, simulation, creativity, design in everything we do from course design, to communications, to community design, to marketing, to our operations. Plus, through my advising work, I get to work on the biggest product / GTM problems that founders are facing across dozens of domains and products.

- It works with my life: I work all 7 days of the week (mainly on my advising & teaching). The weeks I am teaching are particularly very intense (everyone in my house and my mom in India knows that I am basically unavailable those weeks). On the flip side though, my teaching + advising give me a lot more control over my schedule than almost any other work would. This means that I’ve been able to spend a lot more time with my son (17yrs, only child) over the past 4+ years than I could have otherwise. I like that.

Software Engineering Manager

•	Collaborated with Sales and Product Departments to help close $250,000+ deal with Redfin. I was responsible for working with their Engineering team to create, store and deliver the data that is displayed on hundreds of millions of their home listing pages.
•	Leveraged Twilio's SendGrid Email API to create provider notification system for members of other departments within the company.
•       Coordinated with Chief Marketing Officer on several occasions to create and deliver custom datasets (based on complex queries pulling data from MSSQL Server database tables) for companies, including T-Mobile and Microsoft.

Senior Software Engineer

•	Built and optimized two .NET Core Web APIs serving millions of users, which were part of an initiative to migrate an ASP.NET Monolith project to a modern WordPress server stack and API-based microservices architecture utilizing multiple AWS services.
•	Identified bottlenecks in API performance and used MS SQL Server’s ‘Execution Plan’ feature to improve Entity Framework Core LINQ queries and thus, reduce latency across multiple endpoints by more than 70%.
•	Utilize Redis to implement caching strategy and store more than 11,000,000+ records of data to minimize latency and improve application performance. Transitioned from JSON to implementing Protocol buffers for data storage to reduce memory footprint by more than 40%.
•	Use Elasticsearch and Kibana to log and track API errors in real-time, thus enabling quick resolution. In addition, I use Datadog’s Application Performance Monitoring feature to track API and AWS RDS metrics.
•	Developed API calling solution which helped secure ‘Revenue Share Partnership’ with US News by creating API endpoints to serve data to more than 50 city-based internet provider pages that are hosted on their site.

Application Engineer

IBISWorld

IBISWorld, Inc. is a provider of business information and market research on thousands of industries across nine countries. The goal is to provide economic and market data along with analytical insights that enable all types of organizations to make informed business decisions. 

• Developed new features across several web applications to enhance site functionality and improve user experience.
• Communicate with internal stakeholders to resolve helpdesk queries and implement bug fixes to improve the performance of our web applications.  
• Collaborated with other developers to create a custom content management system - using C# and the MVC design pattern - for the company's Procurement clients. 
• Implemented Gembox, a third-party API, to create our report PDFs on-the-fly in order to free up space on our web servers and eliminate manual processes for the Production department. 
• Created, deployed, and actively maintain a web application - through implementing a third-party library, ClosedXML - for use by our top banking clients to assess industry risk.

Full-Stack Web Developer

• Collected and interpreted pricing and financial data related to multiple markets in manufacturing and service sectors
• Analyzed macroeconomic, demographic and supply chain information to communicate business trends 
• Discussed market trends with journalists from major publications including, Bloomberg, TIME, Forbes and The Economist

Business Research Analyst

I transitioned from being a Business Research Analyst to a Software Engineer and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I have worked professionally as a Software Engineer for the past 6 years and I absolutely love it! For the majority of my career, my focus has been on Backend Development and primarily working with Microsoft technologies, including C#, SQL Server, ASP.NET MVC and Core. I also really enjoy learning new technologies outside of work and have earned two AWS certifications, dived into Python and some front-end technologies, including Angular and React. 

At its core, my greatest joy as a Software Engineer is the opportunity to learn and become better at what I do. I figured out early on that to succeed in this profession, I would always need to embrace learning and challenge myself to better understand the technologies I work with. I've been fortunate enough to work with many intelligent people and learn from them in order to become a better Software Engineer as well as embracing platforms such as Pluralsight, Educative, Zero to Mastery, YouTube and blogs. Becoming more technically competent and confident is very important to me. 

As much as I want to improve my technical skills, another aspect of being a Software Engineer that I enjoy is the ability to improve my communication skills and to work with people across multiple departments. By reaching out to and working with individuals across Engineering, Product, Data, Sales, and Content departments, I have gained a much better understanding of how my role supports other areas of the business. I always try to take time to understand what goals other people are trying to achieve and how I can be of help. When working for a company, I want to understand the impact that I'm able to have on the business and to go above and beyond in order to maximize it. 

In a nutshell, I will always work at becoming more skilled as a Software Engineer and treat my profession as a craft. When working for a company, I will take the time to understand what's important to the business and how I can work individually and with others to help them achieve their goals and maximize my overall impact to the business.
