In 2012, I completed 15 years in the corporate world.

Life was fast-paced, intense—18-hour workdays, back-to-back meetings, and constantly juggling projects.

Then, one week later, everything changed.

The pressure finally broke me. I ended up spending two weeks in the hospital.

With all the time in the world, I was left alone with my thoughts. Lying on the hospital bed, that’s when it hit me — what was I really doing with my life?

One sleepless night, tears streamed down my face as I confronted the truth I had been ignoring: I wasn’t living life on my terms. I wasn't being there for my family.

It was my wake-up call.

Within a year, I quit my job to go solo.

Project Management was my strength. So, I started helping others pass the PMP exam, using brain-friendly strategies I had mastered for myself.

For the next 8 months, I turned my notes into blog posts. I worked tirelessly, sold my house to stay afloat, and tried to build something out of nothing.

Yet, nothing seemed to work.

And then, I found Amazon.

I converted some of my blog posts into a book and self-published on Amazon. 

To my surprise, it became a #1 bestseller across 3 categories.

I went from chasing clients to clients chasing me — ready to pay hundreds of dollars for my coaching.

And that’s when I learned an important lesson:

12 years ago, I walked away from a cushy corporate job.

The decision wasn’t impulsive.
It was made from a hospital bed, recovering from burnout.

5-hr work commute. 16-hr days.
Multiple projects across 3 time zones.
I was hardly present for my wife and our two little kids.

On most weekdays I didn’t see my kids at all.
I left before they woke up, returned after they had slept.
Even Sundays were often occupied by work. Forget vacations.

What hit me in that hospital room wasn’t exhaustion.

It was regret.

Careers can restart.
Childhood cannot.

Writing the book is not the hard part.

Knowing what goes where is.

Leaders I worked with don’t struggle to write the book.
They find it harder to come up with 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬'𝘴 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦.

Authors tend to begin expanding insights - before defining reader's journey to a transformation.

The result is predictable:

- Concepts repeat across chapters
- Detours that feel intelligent but distract
- Book's promise that weakens chapter by chapter

A book is not a collection of thoughts and ideas.
It is a designed progression towards a transformation.

This is why we build the skeleton first.
Using 𝗮 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗽.

Not for detail. That comes much later.
For direction.

The mind map clarifies:

- What changes for the reader
- In what sequence that change unfolds
- Which core sections deliver each promise

Just two levels are usually enough:

1/ The chapter sequence.
2/ The core sections inside each chapter.

This is not easy work. It demands clear thinking.
But it saves authors from many traps later.

Once the structure is clear, writing becomes expansion.
Without it, writing becomes endless rearranging.

Fix the structure first.
Then let the words do their job.

Standing in front of this mural yesterday, I kept looking at the old storefronts.

It reminded me of the street I grew up on.

Rows of small shops.
Including ours.

Back then, businesses weren’t built on energy alone.

They had systems.
Supply chains. Distribution. Routines.

Word-of-mouth travelled slowly, but steadily.

Today, most solopreneurs build on hustle.

Posting. Shipping. Selling. Creating. Every day.

There’s nothing wrong with hustle.
It gets you started.

But hustle doesn’t compound well.

At some point, authority needs structure.
A way for your thinking to travel without you pushing it daily.

For me, that became writing.

Last week, I met a senior exec who’s starting to write again.

He shared a simple observation about an industry trend on the post.
No big storytelling.
No “strategy thread.”
No viral numbers to brag about.

But three companies reached out.
Not because the post was perfect.
Because it made his 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦.

This is the part most people miss.

LinkedIn is not only a stage.
It’s a 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘦.

The right people don’t always “like.”

If this feels worth testing, here’s a simple way to do it this weekend.

1. Pick one trend that matters right now.
2. Write one clear take on it.
3. Add one real example you’ve seen.
4. Name one implication leaders will face next.
5. End with one question you’re still thinking about.

Post it.
Then do this for 6 weeks.

1-2 posts a week is enough.
It could be a trend, an insight, a win, a lesson learned.

The goal is not “content.”
The goal is becoming the person whose thinking shows up.

When that happens, opportunities can arrive surprisingly.

Many experts think that being good at what they are automatically gets them noticed. This post explains why it fails and what to do instead.

“By the time I’m asked, it’s already decided.”

I see this pattern often.

The discussion looks open.
People share views.
Agreement begins to form.

Then, once that agreement settles, someone says,
“Can you help execute this?”

That’s the moment.

You’re being invited 𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 alignment.

At that stage, the decision isn’t being shaped anymore.
It’s being supported.

This isn’t about competence.
It isn’t about trust, either.

Your judgment is respected.
It’s just entering the process too late.

Experts who 𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯’𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘻𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘥 face this.

This is the real frustration for them.

I established subject matter authority through the ideation and launching of organization-wide dashboards. My passion and commitment in innovation has earned our project team the recognitions for excellence in innovation. 

Aa former Vice President of Membership at Toastmasters Evanston, I honed my skills in building meaningful connections and fostering positive team dynamic that promotes morale and collaboration. This, along with membership growth and retention strategies, leveraging digital platforms for educational content and event promotion, allowed me to contribute significantly to the club’s distinguished achievement. 

My diverse professional journey also includes my role as a Registered Nurse, where I managed and coordinated daily care for acute care patients, showcasing my ability to thrive in high-intensity environments. Additionally, my experience as a medical sales representative highlighted my proficiency in researching, evaluating customer needs, and providing tailored solutions.
