If I want to start my UX career in 2025.

Honestly? I might not take the conventional path.
The entry-level job market is tough. 
More designers are becoming entrepreneurs, having their own products or services to own their work instead of fitting into corporate moulds.

If I pivoted into UX today with no prior experience, here’s what I would do:

⇒ Learn the Fundamentals
Start with a recognized certification (like Google UX), then build with free resources. Credibility opens doors.

⇒ Find a Mentor
Connect with designers whose work you admire to learn from their path. Also, find your community, comprised of people who share your passion, to find answers when you are stuck. Remember that design doesn't exist in silo.

⇒ Build Adjacent Skills
Study business, tech or conversation design. Design lives at the intersection of user, tech, and business.

⇒ Embrace AI 
Build at least 1 product from start to finish with AI tools. This will help you build your own AI toolkit, rather than chasing trends and feeling FOMO.

⇒ Embrace Your Past
Learn to leverage your past experiences and make that your selling point. You don't have to start from scratch because UX is built on our shared human experiences.

⇒ Create & Share Publicly
Most importantly, share your journey while you build things. Your next opportunity will find you through the value you put out.



Instead of chasing a "UX" title, I would focus on the day-to-day activities I would be involved in and which projects align with my values.

There’s no one right path, just what works for you.

Here are 4 myths I had about creating content that I had to unlearn after 2 years of posting.

Myth 1:
There’s a perfect, predictable system.
Reality:
Some posts start as notes, while are planned for weeks, and there is no telling which one will take off.

Myth 2:
It’s all about the likes and followers.
Reality:
It’s about connection and having the passion to share ideas.

Myth 3: 
Every post must be 100% original.
Reality:
Build your hit list and recycle shamelessly. 

Myth 4:
You need to have everything figured out before you can start sharing.
Reality:
We are all figuring it out, and you don't have to have everything figured out to get started.

This was my first business card.
I designed it when I first graduated bootcamp back in 2018
Back then, I was afraid to label myself as "UX designer"
So my title became: "Graphic / Motion / UI Designer" 
trying to be everything, to everyone.
I wish I’d had the courage to own the title I wanted
Instead of tiptoeing around it.
Even though there are still debates years later over what to call a UX designer,

UX designer? UX/UI Designer? UI/UX designer?

But a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

Until we all agree on one title, let’s look past the name
and focus on the problems we solve.

You’re not stuck. You’re just in the messy middle of your growth story.

⇢ 2018: The Start
Moving from an animation background to taking a UX bootcamp
Feeling: “I’m ready!”
✅ Reached out to designers I admired
✅ Applied for roles matching my skills
What I Wish I Knew:
Be more strategic in applications. 
Find your people to make the journey less lonely.

⇢First Role: Visual Design
Feeling: "Is this UX?"
✅ Joined design communities
✅ Learned when to leave and grow
What I Wish I Did:
Attend more industry events. 
Ask more “why”, not just execute.

⇢ 2019-2023: Finding My Footing
Feeling: “I know nothing!”
✅ Found mentors
✅ Embraced being a "designer of one" before joining a real design team
✅ Realized growth often feels like confusion first
What I Wish I Did:
Document my process more. 
See change as an opportunity for growth, not fear.

⇢2023-Present: Sharing & Scaling
Feeling: “I am more than what I know today.”
✅ Sharing my journey so others feel less alone
✅ Learning to say no and focus on what matters

No matter where you are.
Remember that you are not stuck.
We’ve all been there, and you don’t have to figure it out yourself.

My UX Design Journey (so far)

We often associate quantitative metrics when discussing design impact.
From churn rate to NPS score to clicks reduced.

However, what designers do often cannot be measured by an exact number.
Those immeasurable impacts include:
⇢ The dev team’s time saved by realizing a critical usability issue before any code was written.
⇢ The clarity a prototype brought to a fuzzy, high-stakes debate.
⇢ A preventable support call that never had to be made because of improved accessibility.
Those are the work designers do that shape culture and accelerate product maturity.
It’s qualitative, not quantitative.

They are just as critical as any number in a dashboard.

Our value isn’t just in the solutions we ship,
It’s in the problems we prevent and the conversations we change.
