2025 was the year I:

Sold my business
Got engaged
Moved to Dubai

What’s crazy is I’m even more excited for 2026.

Every year starts the same way for me.

I take a 3-day retreat. No meetings. No distractions. Just time to think and plan the year properly.

(+ more time with the dog, more importantly 🐶)

Before I plan anything, I look back.

What am I proud of?
Selling my SaaS business was an easy answer.

What drained me?
Clear enough that I cut it out immediately.

What gave me energy?
What would I do differently?
What can I learn from this to make next year better?

Only after that do I plan forward.

I keep it simple. A small set of OKRs. A few objectives, with three key results each. Enough structure to focus, not enough to slow me down.

This year feels different though.

I’m planning a completely new software business.

I don’t know what it is yet.

Which means a lot of this is taking a swing in the dark.

So I went back to fundamentals. Read Zero to One again. Fourth time now. Not for ideas, but to reset my thinking.

AI has changed a lot. Speed. Leverage. What a small team can do.

But the process of going from zero to one hasn’t really changed. You just move faster if you use the tools properly.

2025 closed a chapter.

2026 feels like opening a new one.

And that’s exactly where I want to be.

The theme of 2026: going all in.

Not many people know this, but outside of Squarespace, my main SEO niche was self-storage.

Over the last 3 years, I built inbound channels that turned it into one of the most profitable parts of my agency. 

We worked with operators of all sizes across four continents.

It worked extremely well.

But it hasn't had my full focus.

After selling my SaaS business, that became non-negotiable. If I’m building again, it needs full commitment.

A new SaaS.
From 0 to 1.

(It doesn’t exist yet, which is why I’m going back to fundamentals below!)

So I’m glad to share that the self-storage arm of my agency, SelfStorageMarketingAgency .com, has been acquired by John Reinesch and his team at StorIQ.

John’s been a strong competitor for a long time. He knows the space and knows how to take it further.

I’ll miss competing with him on SERPs!

But he’s genuinely one of the best in the industry, and I’m excited to see where he takes it.

As for what’s next?

One direction.
One focus.

That’s 2026.

ChatGPT ads have now been announced.

This is the same moment Google and Facebook had early on.

Massive attention.
Very few advertisers.
No established playbooks.

Those windows don’t stay open for long.

I broke down what’s happening and why this matters below 👇

ChatGPT Ads

Let’s hope this isn’t the trend of 2026.

People sending unedited ChatGPT emails...

I’m seeing SOOO many of them lately.

Confident. Polished. Well argued.

And completely missing the obvious.

That’s the problem - everyone can do better!

You can get ChatGPT to argue any point you want, and it’ll do it convincingly. 

Even if the point is wrong.

Take a landing page that’s been live for years. Quietly printing money.

Prompt:

“Write an email critiquing this page.”

You’ll get a strong response back. Clear logic. Clean structure. Sounds smart.

But it has no context. No experience. No sense of what actually works.

Now we’ve got people replying to AI-written emails with more AI-written replies.

Both sides confident. Neither grounded in reality. Just words arguing with words.

I use AI every day. It’s part of how I work.

But it’s not judgment.

It doesn’t know what you’ve learned. It hasn’t made your mistakes. It hasn’t seen what wins or fails in the real world.

Use it to think. Use it to pressure-test ideas. Use it to move faster.

Just don’t use it to replace common sense. Or to dress up a weak point and hit send.

I couldn’t get this idea out of my head.

Last year, I almost launched an LLM SEO tool.

It was familiar territory.
I knew the space.
I've built & sold before.

But the timing didn’t feel right.

While I was exploring that, something else kept pulling my attention.

LLMs with massive free user bases are expensive to run.

Hundreds of millions of users.
Very little direct monetisation.

There's only 1 way that story ends...

Ads.

It's the only way the unit economics work.

When ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity roll ads out at scale, the same problems will show up fast:

No benchmarks.
No clarity on what works.
Founders guessing while wasting cash.

That’s the gap I couldn’t shake.

So instead of forcing the SEO tool, I started building around that future.

Ad-Intel .ai.

Run winning ChatGPT ads and spy on the competition.

It’s just a waitlist for now.

But it feels good to be back building in the trenches.

After a couple of months in the weeds, seeing OpenAI’s announcement only confirmed the direction.

The reality of “working from home”…

Is this the new norm?

Over the holidays, work came up with friends.

11 people total
2 self-employed
6 with full-time jobs
3 students

Out of the 6 with jobs, 4 WFH.

The WFHers said they work <1-2 hours a day!

Not because it was Christmas, but because that's the norm.

Here’s the part that surprised me.

A couple of them had just been promoted.

High performers in their org.

So what is this really?

People slacking, or a hard shift from time-at-desk to output?

You see it on socials/in the pub too.

Monday and Friday WFH look the same.

A few messages. One or two meetings.
Netflix on in the background.
Hungover from the night before.

I’m not anti-remote work.

I’ve worked from home since 2019.

It didn't stop me from putting in 12+ hour days.

But if people aren’t getting in-person mentorship…
And potentially millions are getting away with 1-2 hours...

What happens to skill development?

And what happens when AI takes over more & more roles?

Maybe this is progress.

But I'm genuinely concerned for the future, especially for younger generations.

I went from 0 to a 7-figure exit in 2.5 years.

If I started again from 0, here’s what I would do.

1. I’d start where people are already asking for help.

Not "brainstorming business ideas".

I’d sit in:
- Facebook groups
- Reddit threads
- Slack communities

And I’d look for the same questions showing up again and again.

Why are people stuck?
What keeps breaking?
What are they frustrated enough to rant about?

These are the opportunities yet to be solved.

2. I’d ask one question most people skip.

Is this problem getting bigger?

For me, the most clear opportunity right now is ChatGPT ads.

Advertisers already struggle with:

- Figuring out why some ads work, and others don’t
- Breaking down competitor messaging
- Producing enough variations without wasting time

Now layer in this shift:

- More discovery happens inside AI
- More decisions happen inside conversations
- Less attention sits in feeds

The same ad problems exist.
They’re just moving into a new interface.

3. I’d build the smallest thing that fixes one part of that problem.

I wouldn't build a fully fledged product or service.

Something simple:

- A narrow done-for-you service
- One repeatable workflow
- A single outcome people will pay for

For GPT ads, that might be:

Landing page or funnel audits 

The goal here isn’t growth, it's validation.

4. I’d put it in front of people immediately.

- Content.
- DMs.
- Existing audience.

Then I’d watch:

Do they care?
Do they want to pay?
Do they give feedback on how to improve?

If yes, I’d lean in.

If not, I’d change it fast.

That loop is how I’d go from 0 to a 7-figure exit again.

And right now, the clearest version of that loop I see is in ChatGPT ads.

ChatGPT is already being used by roughly 900 million people every week.

Every question costs money to answer.

And most of those users will never pay for a subscription.

That leaves OpenAI with a simple problem.

Usage keeps growing.
Costs keep growing.
Revenue doesn’t keep up.

Something has to give.

SEO and AIO have already become "sexy" for the first time because of this shift. 

Businesses now care about showing up inside answers, not rankings.

Ads are the next logical step.

ChatGPT doesn’t live in a feed or a list of links. It sits where someone is actively trying to decide something.

People aren’t browsing. They’re asking.

What tool should I use.
How do I fix this.
What works at my stage.

If a paid result shows up inside that answer, matched to the exact question being asked, the intent and targeting are on a different level than anything we’ve seen before.

And unlike other platforms, AI potentially understands context, history, and understands more about you than cookies ever could.

Once ChatGPT does this properly, Gemini and others will follow. 

The real opportunity won’t be “running ads”.

It’ll be the people who figure out how to turn ChatGPT ad spend into outsized returns while everyone else is still guessing.

I’m already exploring a tool that makes this much easier.

ChatGPT made SEO "sexy" 👉 AIO, GEO, LLMO.

Same fundamentals, new marketing spiel.

But, it couldn't be more important.

Your reputation inside AI now decides whether your business gets recommended or ignored. 

For most companies, that’s already more important than Google.

But it was never the full story.

Ads were always going to disrupt this space.

Last year, OpenAI was bleeding billions.

Now, they're running at roughly $20B in annualised revenue. 

The early 3x growth story held up. 

What was harder to explain was how that turns into $100B without pulling a new lever.

Subscriptions alone won’t get them there.

Ads will.

ChatGPT is closing in on a billion free users. 

At that scale, even light monetisation changes the math. 

Monetize at a fraction of Facebook ARPU, and you’re talking about billions in incremental revenue very quickly.

The key difference is where ads sit.

Social ads monetize attention.
AI ads monetize intent.

What should I buy?
Which tool should I use?
Who do I trust?

Those questions are already being answered inside conversations, not feeds.

That’s why I don’t think the next phase is SEO vs ads. It’s SEO plus ads. 

Organic presence earns trust. Paid presence influences the decision.

This will create the largest advertising opportunity for businesses in 2026-2030.
