As the Regional Director for North America at ICCA, I am passionate about driving growth and fostering collaboration within the global meetings and events industry. ICCA has stood at the forefront of shaping the future of international association meetings since 1963, and I'm honoured to be part of a team that champions innovation, sustainability, and advocacy on a global scale.

Over the years, I've had the privilege of strategizing, planning, and executing transformative events—from intimate gatherings to international conferences. My career has been built on an unwavering commitment to innovation, creative problem-solving, and a collaborative approach to ensure that every event exceeds expectations. Along the way, I've been fortunate to be recognized with honours such as "Planner of the Year" by Smart Meetings and a spot on the "40 Under 40" by Connect x BizBash.

But more than accolades, it's the connections I've built and the stories we've shaped together that truly inspire me. It was the Guinness World Record attempt to host the largest online event gathering, GMID Goes Virtual, in 2020, which connects almost all the industry associations across the globe. It was #EventprofsBreakShit that I co-founded in 2021, seeking an honest, authentic, but joyful way to explore event technology. 

These are the real rewards of our work, and they underscore the power of collaboration in our industry.

A 20+ year veteran of corporate event marketing life, I ran the global event team for Dell and created Dell World in 2011. I ran the global event team & customer advocacy program for IBM's Analytics & Hybrid Cloud division. I'm one of the founders of experiential agency Haute, and an investor in Haute Spot, a music venue in Cedar Park, Texas. I'm a writer, investor, speaker, and frequent traveler.

After Christmas this past year, we took a little trip to Morocco to give the kids a cool new experience (and now I can officially mark Africa off on my map!). 

This is a photo of us at one of the central fountains in a village in town. 

We were in the beautiful blue city of Chefchaouen, weaving our way through the hilly alleys and stopping for Instagrammable moments (and listening to my daughter complain about her cold, wet feet in the rain. But I digress... )

Our guide, Anas, took us on a cultural exploration of the important tenets of these villages. 

He explained how villages are designed around shared responsibility.

Every community is built on five pillars. 

These are non-negotiables:
→ A place to access clean water - the fountains.
→ A place to bathe and wash clothes - the bathhouses and washrooms. 
→ A place to cook food - the communal bakery. 
→ A place for children to be educated - the school. 
→ A place for worship and community harmony - the Mosques and Temples. 

These aren’t amenities... they’re the infrastructure of the community.

The point is NOT that everyone contributes equally.

It’s that no one is left to fend for themselves.

That stayed with me. That STAYS with me. 

Strong communities don’t work because of great branding, online tools, or a checklist of member benefits on a website. 

They work when people take responsibility for their own growth and for each other’s access, learning, and wellbeing.

Sometimes that looks like sharing knowledge.

Sometimes it’s making an introduction.

Sometimes it’s holding space during a tough time.

Sometimes it’s literally lighting the fire so others can eat.

Belonging isn’t passive; it’s practiced every day in a community.

If you move to a community and never leave your house, how can you enjoy the benefits of belonging to it?

When you pay for a membership but never show up to member gatherings, how can you get value from it?
