The 90’s were a great time for film. Tarantino, Rodriguez, Oliver Stone, Spike Lee and Spike Jonez were making their best films and I wanted to be just like them. So as an 18 year old, I headed off to the U of I only to find they were about to cancel their film program 🤬. Undeterred, I picked up a theatrical directing bachelors and then turned my Dad's butcher shop 🥩 into my own cinematic world, writing and directing a feature film at 22.

That laid the foundation for everything that came next. 

Short films followed, getting screened at film festivals in Chicago, San Francisco, London and of course the start of online video. 

It was exciting to see my work rewarded with a number of Official Selections and awards like:

In 2013, I started my own production company, CLEAVER Creative 🔪 named in honor of my Dad and Grandfather’s profession.

In 2015, I carved out a new path with WatchMeWork.com, the world's first live-streaming coworking space. It sparked 30,000+ collaborative sessions and won 3rd place at Startup Riot, Atlanta.

Creativity and collaboration are at the core of what we do today as we help Fortune 500 companies like Accenture, SAP and Salesforce leverage the power of animated video.

Here's Why Envato is still my favorite AI tool for creators

It's a freaking powerhouse, and they have been building out tons of AI features this year. They still have the same library of web assets, fonts, templates for video, and stock footage, but the AI tools like ImageGen, VideoGen, VoiceGen, and MusicGen are super easy to use and create some great results.

Additionally, they had the forethought to have a built-in prompt improver, which helps you get a more detailed and effective result.

They incorporated nano banana for editing, of course, and recently released MockupGen, VoiceGen, and SoundGen. I haven't even had a chance to try these yet, but I can't wait to test them.

It is now a true beast of a resource, at just $16.50 a month.

So if you haven't tried Envato ever or not in a while, take a look at it and see what you can make in a very short amount of time.

When I was a freshman in English class, we were taught that you need to start your essay with an “attention getter.” 

Today, the gen alpha freshmen might say, “Hey bro, your hook be bussin.” At least that's what my 8 year old nephew told me ~

The first part of any vlog is the attention getter or hook. You need something that makes a viewer—who has never heard of your idea—stay for a few more seconds. It could be a metaphor, a personal story, or a visual that’s just different enough to make someone stop scrolling.

People decide in the first 3–5 seconds if they will keep watching and videos with strong openings keep viewers up to 30% longer, according to Wistia.

Try something new: change the location, add a surprising visual, or open with a line that sparks curiosity. The first seconds are the doorway. Once you capture attention, you can deliver the value.
