Let me take you back to the year 2021, I was 2 years into my consulting business and I had a difficult decision to make - keep going or shut it down.

I’d gone from being a burnt out, unhappy and frustrated executive to starting out on my own.

I did not want to feel like a passenger in my life, I wanted to be in the driver's seat.

My clients made hundreds of thousands of dollars as a direct impact of us working together.

Here I was, fully committed, a master of my craft and overdelivering.

I was like, “I’ve made it, there’s now going to be a line of new clients waiting to work with me” 

But…

When I looked behind my shoulder - there was no one.

The truth of my business was that - it was largely dependent on repeats, a few referrals and the one-off new clients.

The worst part?

The boom & bust cycles. 

I’m flying high and money is pouring in - next, I’m anxious because I don’t know where my next sale is going to come from? If a big client suddenly pulls back - then what?

More than money, it was the uncertainty, the anxiety, the feeling of not being good enough and it was breaking me. 

One night, I'm tossing & turning around in bed and thinking about my business. 

Out of nowhere, I remember a quote from my Economics textbook…

'The objective of business is profit'

It dawned on me, I was focusing on the wrong thing all along.

Client results are not the most important, they are actually the second.

The first one? 

Client acquisition. 

Hoping for clients? No. 

Praying for clients? No.

Hustling for clients? No.

The greatest service you can do for your business is a system for client acquisition.

Today, I know exactly where my next client, the client after that and the client after that will come from.

I helped Marcom run smoothly in all of the different sections of the department. On the publications team (where I worked most often), I worked on design jobs anywhere from designing a new poster, invitation or a show at the Satin Louis University Museum of Art, to updating a past design, making buttons, and organizing the photo data base, along with filing old jobs away. On the communication and marketing team, I edited press releases, speeches or text for pamphlets for incoming students. Along with assisting with photo shoots and relieving the telephone operators of the University. For the web team, I was trained in CMS and used those skills to update and make corrections on the University web sites.

In this position I updated the blogs daily, helped the dee jays (Mason and Remy) obtain content, and designed t-shirts and thank you cards for their show. With the other interns, I updated the Intern Facebook page and we created a Twitter account to maintain and continue to build a strong relationship with Mason and Remy's listeners. I worked events with Mason and Remy such as walking in the Mardi Gras parade in down town St. Louis as well as working the Rascal Flatts Concert. At both events, I helped with set up and take down, while talking with the listeners and taking pictures of the events to post on the 93.7 The Bull web site.

I was the kid who would separate her Easter, Halloween, and Christmas candy by their distinctive colors, sizes and brands before eating them. I would let my imagination get the better of me – playing "Mountain" on the basement stairs and scaring myself, believing that zombie "Thriller" Michael Jackson was under my bed and going to "get me."

Growing up, attending Saint Louis University and entering the work force, I learned how to put my imagination into action, and apply it to my work. As a visual communications professional, I have been able to use my creativity in my everyday life: designing advertisements, posters and invitations; creating advertising and public relation campaigns; writing blog posts, press releases and design briefs. Along the way, my education and experiences have given me the chance to craft my journalism skills in the world of photography as well.
 
I have a craving for discovery, a knack for solving problems and a desire to help others. With that in mind, I throw myself into my work. I am 100-percent dedicated to a job from beginning to end, so the products I produce not only reflect my creative sensibility and my meticulous work ethic; it actually raises the bar of what is expected and what can be delivered.

I look forward to working with companies where I can be challenged, expand my knowledge, express my creativity and make a difference for those around me, those who count on me and, maybe in some way, those who do not know me but benefit from my efforts.
