I am the Founder, CEO and Clinical Director of The Ralph Veterinary Referral Centre. This is a multidisciplinary small animal specialist referral hospital in the South East of England west of and near London. The Ralph has one of the UK's biggest 24-7-365 Emergency and Critical Services. Our compassion- and ethical practice-focused startup hospital opened in February 2019. It is now (October 2023) the UK's largest independent (non-corporate, non-university) referral centre with ~230 Ralphers. (http://theralph.vet/)

I set up the Veterinary ECC Small Talk project. This is now centred on a busy Facebook group with 54,000 members as of October 2023 (https://www.facebook.com/groups/veterinaryeccsmalltalk/). I also wrote a book and developed an app on Small Animal Emergency Medicine (https://www.kimbavetapps.com/).

I set up, personally fund and run The Ralph Site (http://www.theralphsite.com/), a non-profit pet loss support project including a website with information, resources and memorials, a blog, and a busy Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/TheRalphSite/) and private group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/theralphsite). The group now has 12,000 members (October 2023).

I am a Co-founder of Ethical Globe (https://www.ethicalglobe.com/), a directory and community of vegan people, businesses, organisations and projects, and of Veterinary Vegan Network (https://www.facebook.com/groups/vetvegans/).

In 2023, I became a Board Member for BradyCare, an animal welfare and veterinary education charity (https://bradycare.org/).

Prep Duties: Opening Theatres each morning; setting up the operating table, cautery, isoflurane, oxygen, air, scavenging and monitoring equipment. Assist the Nurses with restraining patients for pre-med; raising and occluding veins for IV's. Clipping patients appropriately per procedure; Scrubbing the patients in prep prior to entry to Theatre; Assisting the Nurses into Theatre; Hanging the Limb and/or positioning the patients; Sterile Scrubbing of patients in Theatre. Turning around [sterilising] Theatres between operations. Closing down Theatres each evening; consisting of moving the operating table and all equipment and deep cleaning all surfaces in preparation for the following day. Running Bloods for Basic GA and Comprehensive profiles. Walking Force Plates to obtain gait analysis of the walk and trot of dogs; to ascertain the level of fore and hind limb lameness.

Surgical Duties: Working as part of the team in charge of the cleaning, packaging and sterilisation of all surgical instruments. Responsible for the proper maintenance of specialist equipment, as well as keeping an inventory, and ensuring surgical equipment is restocked. Many of the surgeons have developed different methods of doing the same operation; which often involves different equipment. Therefore, as Surgical Auxiliaries we develop a detailed and in-depth knowledge of each surgeon’s techniques, by frequently liaising with them to understand their specific requirements. A consistent awareness of each days scheduled operations is fundamental in order to pre-plan for operations and remain one step ahead of the surgeons at all times; ensuring that the appropriate instruments are always sterile and ready for surgery. As Surgical Auxiliaries, we have the hands-on role of aiding vets during surgeries, by remaining on standby to supply any further equipment required.

Collating slide decks for Management Meetings and producing weekly and ad-hoc reports and stats; including KPI's, Time to Market measurement, Delivery on Time stats, Portfolio Roadmap and Portfolio Dashboard.

Providing central project co-ordination, administrative, governance and finance support for the BUC Portfolio; and individually to the Programme and Project Managers alike within the team. 

Consolidate monthly forecasts across the BUC Portfolio to assess accuracy; Act as the interface between project and programme management and PMO Finance; Own the end to end finance forecast for each project’s delivery and communicate changes, risks and issues to the business; Raise purchase orders and manage through to delivery; Budget management of large programmes, and support the project management community on cost management; Ensure up-to-date forecast info held in the finance trackers is reconciled against each project accordingly in the Clarity project management tool; Regularly upload current Actuals/Commits data from EVO into the Finance Trackers in order to keep track of receipted and outstanding PO line items; Produce outstanding commits reports mid-month per programme, with a view to discussing with the Programme Manager’s and PM’s and subsequently receipting the current month’s commitments before end of said month; Answer queries from PM’s and Vendors alike on any queries surrounding past and current PO’s.

Check Governance Upcoming Gate Report based on Clarity data; Arrange and host fortnightly pre-governance conference calls with all relevant stakeholders, held to review upcoming gate submissions; Subsequently review the aforementioned agreed submissions before they are presented to the governance board, and sanity check the data within the slide decks such as gate milestones, finance history/spend profile, budgets, risks, issues and dependencies; Review gate submission data in Clarity project management tool, ensuring all mandatory deliverables, change requests, risks & issues have been completed and submitted.

Reporting to the EMEA Operations Manager and the Regional Director. As an Operations Analyst in the Professional Services team, it was my responsibility to provide the PS Management Team with regular updates on the delivery of services in each respective region (Middle East, South Africa, Russia & East Europe). Daily management of partners and consultants associated with the delivery of our services revenue; as well as providing administrative and financial support to the Regional Management team. In addition I liaised frequently with the internal Sales Order and Finance teams to follow through with order bookings and the processing of partner and consultant’s invoices. I also collated the necessary documentation such as Quotes and Statement of Works (SoW), and validated documentation integrity, associated with the Purchase Orders.

Liaised with partners to schedule delivery at customer sites; ensured all project administration was completed after each engagement was completed; processed timesheets and customer sign-offs; highlighted any risks and issues to the Regional PM and management teams in a timely manner.

Responsible for establishing and maintaining relationship with internal and external consultants; co-ordinated the engagement of external partners; obtained necessary approval to engage partners and consultants; raised POs & validated invoices; assisted Finance with correct capex and opex cost allocation; ensured all required documentation was completed in a timely manner.

Ensured all required customer sign-offs were obtained in a timely manner, and filed in the appropriate document repository for bi-weekly updates to Finance; assisted the EMEA Operations Administrator with any queries regarding revenue recognition.

Cost Forecasting (Contractors & Partners); assisted the EMEA Operations Manager when required on general reporting/analysis requests.

Contract Operations Analyst

Worked as part of the Business Engagement Team as a Project Coordinator on the Vodafone Windows 7 Refresh Programme. This programme was initiated in order to upgrade all ex-Cable & Wireless UK partners from Windows XP in order to get them fully integrated onto the Vodafone network. Responsibilities included; but were not limited to:

Engaged and liaised with Business Unit Heads in order to inform them of the roll-out process and what it would mean for their teams. Fact-finding to identify which users needed to be omitted initially; due to specific builds and software requirements that may have been detrimentally affected by a standard upgrade (such as Field Engineers, etc). Answered queries from Advocates, and directed their issues to the correct Migration Team members. Managed the Scheduling Calendar to ensure the correct migration sites were setup; and that the quantity of users booked in each day reflected the engineering resource we had available per site to cover. Worked closely with several Technical Teams in order to report post-migration software issues; and to get feedback and updates about said issues for the end-users. Also performed data cleansing tasks & subsequent reporting for the project team.

Contract Project Coordinator

Worked in the Programme Office, supporting the Programme Managers & Project Managers to deliver their initiatives; supporting upwards of 15 Project Managers and Programme Managers with a portfolio upwards of 60 projects. Assisted Programme & Project Managers in the planning and forecasting of projects, acting as a point of advice and support with the management of the project plans; ensuring that the programmes are run in a controlled manner.
