Speed at the "Front" is a liability if your "Back" can't handle the weight.

I once watched a team implement invoice automation that was, on paper, a total miracle. It used AI to cut processing time by more than 50%. The "Motion" was incredible.

But the real challenge, the one that nearly broke the department, came 30 minutes later.

Once the AI had "processed" the invoice at lightning speed, the enterprise reality set in:

Where exactly does this data land so it’s audit-ready?
Who has the legal authority to approve it once it hits a certain threshold?
How does this trigger the downstream workflows in the warehouse or the tax ledger?

The AI agents had accelerated the "Front," but they were dumping data into a void. It was the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system that had to hold the back together.

This is the balance that will define the successful enterprise in 2026.

We are entering an era of "Bimodal IT":

The Agents: High-velocity, probabilistic, and adaptive. They handle the intake and the "grunt work" of translation.

The ERP: Rigid, deterministic, and slow by design. It handles the truth, the taxes, and the traceability.

If you focus only on the agents, you create a "velocity trap" where your intake outpaces your ability to govern. The ERP isn't becoming obsolete, it is becoming the Supreme Court of your Data. It’s the final word on what actually happened.

In the race to automate, don't forget that the engine only works if the chassis can hold the torque.

How are you seeing the role of the ERP evolving? Is it becoming a "passive lake" or is it still the "Command Center" in your organization?

For decades, the software industry has been trapped under an invisible ceiling: 

The Headcount.

In my 26 years in sales, the "Per-Seat" license was the law of the land.

One license per person.
One budget per department.
One "seat" for every pair of eyes on the screen.

Because software was seen as a Tool, its market size (TAM) was limited by the number of humans available to use that tool. If a company had 100 employees, the software vendor could only sell 100 seats. Simple. Linear. And, as we are now realizing, artificially small.

That ceiling disappears the moment the work is done by Agents.

I have seen platforms where automated workflows replaced weeks of manual human effort in just a few hours. When an AI agent performs the work of an entire team, "Per-Seat" pricing becomes an absurdity.

The value was never in the "tool" itself, it was in the work it carried.

We are shifting from "Software-as-a-Service" (SaaS) to "Software-as-a-Producer." When software stops being a hammer and starts being the carpenter, the TAM isn't limited by how many people you hire. It’s limited by the total amount of work your business needs to accomplish.

This is a massive expansion of the market. We aren't just selling "efficiency" anymore, we are selling Output. For leaders and investors, the question is no longer "How many people will use this?" but "How much of our core mission can this software actually execute?"

The shift from "License Fees" to "Outcome Fees" will be painful for some, but for those who understand it, the market has never been bigger.

How you are thinking about TAM in this new reality? Are we looking at a software explosion, or a radical consolidation of value?

The biggest threat to the $5 trillion Professional Services industry isn't a better service. It’s "Continuous Software Execution."

In my career, I’ve seen this play out in document-heavy domains like legal, compliance, and procurement. Traditionally, if you wanted high-stakes accuracy, you hired a team of experts. You paid for their years of experience, their hourly rates, and their manual review.

Software was just the "Enabler", the word processor or the filing cabinet they used.

But I recently watched this model get disrupted in real-time. A client shifted from a "Human-Review" model to an automated system where AI agents performed the analysis and a deterministic software layer enforced the rules.

Suddenly, the "Professional Service" didn't just get faster. It became Continuous Software Execution.

Services are billed by the hour. Software is billed by the outcome.
Services sleep, eat, and have "off days." Software executes 24/7 with zero drift.
Services scale by hiring more people. Software scales by adding more compute.

This is the real disruption of 2026: AI has turned software from a "Tool" into a "Producer."

When software starts producing the work rather than just helping a human do it, the way we size markets changes forever. We aren't just selling a "SaaS subscription" anymore, we are competing for the entire budget previously reserved for headcount and consultancy.

For the incumbents, this is a "Change or Die" moment. For the builders, the opportunity to capture the "Services Arbitrage" has never been greater.

AI creates motion. But only software creates alignment.

In a sales-heavy organization we recently partnered with, they did what everyone is trying to do: They turned on the AI faucets.

Automation dramatically increased their outbound activity. Within weeks:

Leads multiplied by 5x.
Email interactions exploded.
The "top of the funnel" looked better than it had in a decade.

But their revenue didn't move. Why? Because the bottleneck wasn't "Intelligence." It was Coordination.

They had generated a massive amount of "motion," but they had no way to manage the momentum. Without a central, deterministic system of record, a CRM acting as a Command Center, the human sales team couldn't act on the agent-generated work.

They were drowning in "pings" but starving for "partnerships."

This is the reality of Sales in 2026: AI agents are great at the "grunt work" of prospecting and initial outreach. But the moment a lead becomes a "relationship," you need Alignment. You need to know exactly what was promised, what the context is, and who owns the next move.

If your CRM is just a passive "digital filing cabinet" where you log calls after they happen, you are going to lose.

The CRM of the future is a Command Center. It’s the place where:

AI-generated motion is filtered into human-ready opportunities.
The "handoff" from agent to human is seamless and documented.
Leadership can see not just "activity," but actual coordination.

Motion is easy. Coordination is hard. And in sales, you don't get paid for motion. You get paid for the handoff.

How is your team handling this handoff today? Are your humans acting as "backup" for the AI, or is the AI setting the stage for your humans to do what they do best?

In the AI era, being a "Legacy" company might actually be your greatest strength.

There is a common narrative that AI will allow fast-moving startups to dismantle every incumbent overnight. But in my 26 years of working with mature platforms, I’ve seen something that contradicts the hype: Defensibility isn't about your UI or your branding. It’s about your Context.

Startups are great at "What happens next." But Incumbents own the "Why it happened before."

AI agents perform best where history exists.

If you have two decades of data, you don't just have a database, you have a "Long-Term Memory."

A startup’s agent can tell you what the market price is today.
An incumbent’s agent can tell you why you lowered the price during the 2018 downturn, which clients stayed loyal, and which contract clauses saved your margin.

Systems that understand why decisions were made will always outperform those that only know what happened.

This is the "Context Moat." AI thrives on patterns. The deeper the pattern, the smarter the agent. If you are an established player, your data isn't just "logs", it is a narrative of survival, pivots, and tribal knowledge.

The challenge for incumbents isn't that they lack the "tech." It's whether they have the infrastructure to let an AI agent actually "read" their history without getting lost in the noise.

The future belongs to the "Modernized Incumbents", the ones who realize that their decades of 'Legacy' is actually decades of 'Training Data' that no startup can buy.

I’m keen to hear how others think about data as a moat. Are you sitting on a goldmine of context, or is your history just "digital dust"?

Software development is the "Canary in the Coal Mine" for the AI era.

If you want to know how AI will impact your industry, stop looking at the hype and start looking at how development teams are working right now.

A year ago, everyone predicted that AI coding assistants would reduce the demand for developers. The logic was simple: "If AI writes the code, we need fewer people."

The reality? Demand hasn't dropped. But the "Pressure Point" has shifted.

AI tools did not reduce the workload; they increased the expectations. Velocity is the new baseline: What used to take a week now takes a day.

Volume has exploded: We are shipping more features and faster cycles than ever.
Standards have escalated: "Good enough" is no longer acceptable when the competition is moving at AI-speed.

Here is the critical lesson for every leader: Teams are no longer struggling with "Generation." They are struggling with "Integration."

It is easy to generate 1,000 lines of code. It is incredibly hard to ensure those 1,000 lines don’t break your security, violate your governance, or create "technical debt" that crashes your system later.

This pattern will repeat everywhere. Soon, your Marketing team won't struggle to write copy, they will struggle to govern the 10,000 variations the AI produced. 
Your Finance team won't struggle with spreadsheets, they will struggle with the integration of a million automated transactions.

In 2026, the bottleneck isn't the "Doing." It’s the Governance of the Doing.
