The most useful breakthroughs I've seen weren't complicated. 

They were just someone seeing a familiar thing from a different angle.

That's harder to accept than it sounds.
Because complexity gets the credit. 

We talk about breakthroughs in terms of new tools, new technologies, new resources. Rarely in terms of existing forces used differently.

A classroom experiment is going viral right now that makes this point better than most frameworks I've read.

A teacher lifts an entire desk using a glass, paper, water, and fire. Sounds impossible. The physics is straightforward: heat the air inside an inverted glass, let it cool, vacuum forms, pressure differential does the rest.

Atmospheric pressure was always there. Hasn't changed. Isn't new.

The breakthrough was using it on purpose.
This isn't just a physics demonstration. It's actually a map for how most real business insight works.

The businesses that find durable advantages aren't usually the ones who discovered something nobody knew. They're the ones who took a force everyone understood and applied it somewhere unexpected.

This matters more than it seems:
- The pricing dynamic competitors ignored turned out to be leverage
- The user behavior that looked like a bug turned out to be the product
- The distribution channel nobody respected turned out to be the moat

Same forces. Different angle. The students in that classroom clapped because the desk lifted. 

But the rarer reaction is the one that follows. wait, that was possible the whole time?
That question is worth sitting with.

Not what new force can I find. But what familiar force am I standing next to every day and treating as scenery?

Breakthroughs often don't announce themselves. They just sit there, looking ordinary, waiting for someone to actually use them.
