When clients work with me, they get the value of everything I learned from the trenches of nonprofit communications. I work closely with my clients to design strategies that enhance your communications and showcase your impact to funders and other supporters. 

Lines for Life is a fast-growing nonprofit dedicated to preventing suicide and substance abuse. Their communications had historically been focused on paid and earned media. But when they needed a personal story to reflect the life-changing work that was happening every day, it was always a scramble. 

I led their first initiative to build a pipeline of people willing to share their stories and established a bank of stories and photos to meet ongoing communications needs. 

I worked hand in hand with the leadership team to move their communications infrastructure beyond radio and television PR through clear strategy, expanded communications channels, and messaging that consistently put their best foot forward.

I earned a reputation for building effective communication strategies from the ground up. I was the first to lead communications for this healthcare agency. I managed all strategy and content development for web and print. I led collaborative teams to relieve bottlenecks and achieve consensus. I figured out the best online tools to craft and deliver newsletters and other marketing campaigns. And I championed consistency and quality of all external communications.

And this is where I learned how to interview people and give their experience a voice. And we’re not just talking your average blog post kind of writing. This was intense, technical writing with extensive, eye-rolling, crawl-under-your-desk-until-the-storm-passes levels of critical editing. Every line – and sometimes every word – was scrutinized to determine if it accurately conveyed the truth and heart of the matter. This job taught me to not hold my own writing too tightly – to value the process, messaging, and story that forms when we work as a team.

This is where it all began. Where I nervously sat at a conference table in front of three incredible women and interviewed for the chance at my first job out of college.
