Do you ever say something nice at a networking event?
A quick, genuine compliment. Nothing big. Just human.

“Loved what you said there.”
“Love your coat/bag/shoes"
“You explained that so well.”

So why do we go quiet on LinkedIn?

If you catch yourself thinking something nice while you’re scrolling, type it. Send it. Done.

It makes them feel good.
It makes you feel good.
It takes about 10 seconds.
And even if you never speak again, it still lands.

Next time you’re scrolling, try a note like:

“I loved your post today. Really clear.”
“Your banner is brilliant. It says exactly what you do.”
“Your About section is so well written. That line about [X] really landed.”

Send it, then carry on scrolling.

Are LinkedIn polls dead?...here are some insights that might surprise you...

On a recent poll I ran it had:

That’s 7.2% 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐯𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐲 1 𝐢𝐧 14).
And the comments tell the real story, people didn’t just click, they had something to say.

Polls aren’t dead. People will vote… but only when the question is worth answering.

If you want people to vote, the question needs to be:

~ relateable
~ specific enough to have an opinion
~ easy to answer
~ comfortable to answer

The real skill is asking something your audience wants to weigh in on.

Have you ever wanted to message someone on LinkedIn… and then realised you can’t, because you’re not connected? 

You could send them a connection request but there is another way. 

Think what you would do in real life.

In real life, you’d see if someone could introduce you. 

On LinkedIn, we start to overthink it.

But a warm introduction is one of the easiest ways to cut through the noise, especially when someone gets loads of connection requests.

The great thing is that LinkedIn TELLS you who your mutual connections are. How easy can this be? Just send one of them a message asking for an introduction. 

That’s it. Low effort for them. High trust for you.

Do you ever ask for warm intros, or do you default to sending a cold connection request?

I am working on short term recruitment assignments (all profiles, from call center agents up to managers, both permanent and contract) and have also been contacted by ex competitors and other recruitment companies to help them improve their recruitment approach and train and/or coach their sales teams.

Freelance Process Improvement and Recruitment Consultant

ENGIE Electrabel

6 month assignment to help Engie recruit different kinds of profiles at their Benelux HQ. Profiles to recruit were very varied: assistants, (nuclear) engineers, financial profiles of all levels, technicians, legal counsels, etc. Seniority went from junior employees to senior management.
The complexity lied in the fact of recruiting across 7 different organisations with different habits and ways of working, 14 different contracts, up to 9 HRBP’s, and where not all processes were documented;  also the large amount of people to have to recruit (up to 57 at a time).
Working language was French and Dutch using different means of sourcing (in-house and external agencies).

Senior Recruitment Consultant

I work mostly on the Flemish SME market helping organisations “do things better”. It’s a catch all phrase as we really cover so many different aspects of company life. It goes from reorganising the whole structure of a department to helping with sales training, to working on mission, vision, values, to improving productivity and/or quality, to improving sales, etc. The list is nearly endless! (We don’t do pure accounting or legal work though).

Process Improvement/Business Transformation Consultant

Touring asked me to come back and help them hire a series of different people (up to C level) for their Sales and Marketing Teams. I also did some work on hiring technical profiles.
This was a very interesting assignment given the context of the big transformation Touring is going through with their new 2020 vision of becoming the Belgian top of mind brand when it comes to mobility.

This was a short assignment as an in-house recruiter to help Touring during a hiring peak to recruit mostly Call Center and Technical staff.

Maximus IT

Hired to develop the Oracle practice which consisted of only 2 people. Target was to develop both Permanent and Contract recruitment on most Oracle products (OEBS, Hyperion, Peoplesoft, JDE, Core DBA's, SOA techs/Architects, etc).

Spent a lot of time working on defining best practices, how to improve sales results, organisational structure, coaching, etc.

Responsible for 360° business development focussing a lot on the French speaking markets in Europe but also doing business in other European countries, USA and Brazil.

Also had some people management responsibilities.

Some key achievements:

I got 26 contractors running after being in recruitment 1.5 years.
I have generated over 30 million euros turnover in 8 years.
I generate a margin of (well) over 500K euros yearly.
