TAILORED ATHLETE is a premium formalwear e-commerce brand.

I was a founding member of the team & employee #1.

In my role, I was a pragmatic startup operator running the day-to-day operations, including coordinating the production and shipping of goods from multiple manufacturers to multiple warehouses.

I was also responsible for: 

Strategy: 

• Transformed, optimised, and scaled the customer service department, handing it to a new employee within 7 months. 
• Strategised a hiring strategy targeted at A players and transformed it into a scalable process on Asana. Regularly upgrading and tweaking the strategy based on feedback from new hires.
• Set up the US entity to scale operations in the US. Strategised and set up measures to pay sales tax in states where sales have met economic nexus to ensure compliance.
• Oversaw the transition from in-person working to remote in March 2020. Company is now fully remote with employees in multiple time zones. 


People: 

• Created a strong onboarding process aimed at a remote team. Successfully set it up for new starters to hit the ground running from day 1. Continually adapting and tweaking from feedback. 
• Nurture the team culture through virtual and in-person engaging events and managing daily stand-ups. Conduct regular employee health checks using both qualitative and quantitive data collection methods, presenting the results with recommendations to the CEO. 
• Established a benefits package reflecting company values using external data, needs of the current team, and input from the CEO.


Finance & Legal: 

• Trademarked the brand in 4 countries, starting from a place of little legal knowledge. Created a trademarking strategy and working with lawyers across 3 different countries to ensure IP security. 
• Responsible for managing cashflow & negotiating payment terms, prioritising our needs as a bootstrapped business.

I handled multiple books at once and created multi-pronged strategies according to the best hooks, newsworthy mentions, and expert comment. I developed strong relationships with journalists and bloggers.

Publicity Assistant

Key responsibilities: 

- Part of my job role was to contact authors with their marketing plans and respond to any queries they may have, from designing flyers to social media highlights for their book.

- I organised a number of book launches, with venues including the Foreign Office, London, and the Bodleian Library, Oxford. I created and managed guest lists, organised catering and AV, and was the responsible person at the events. I also arranged for books to be sold at the launches, either by myself or through a bookshop. 

- Within a month of starting the role, I represented OUP at a conference in Johannesburg, South Africa. I sold books and networked with authors, while updating our twitter account (@OUPIntLaw) with photos. Also attended conferences in the UK.

- I was responsible for finalising and sending off the 2017-2018 Academic Law catalogue. This involved communicating with Editors to get the final copy, deciding on a name, making decisions about how many to print and where they should be sent, while working with the team who were printing the catalogue within a tight deadline.
