Here are the headline UK funding trends at a glance.

2025 vs 2024:
📉⁠ ⁠Deal numbers down by 7.87%
📈 ⁠Total capital raised up by 3.43% (£800m more deployed)
⬆️ ⁠Average deal size up by 12.6%
🥇⁠ ⁠First-time fundraises up by 23.6%

Overall summary: Fewer deals but more capital per deal and more new companies entering the market.

Stage trends:
👉 ⁠Seed and Venture: Deal counts have softened compared with recent peaks, but remain above pre-2020 levels.
🐢⁠ ⁠Venture: Shows the clearest slowdown in activity.
📈⁠ ⁠Growth: Average deal size dropped (from ~£25.9m to ~£18.6m), indicating more caution in later-stage rounds.
💰Average seed valuation has softened notably, from £2.45m in 2023 to £2.04m in 2025. Though the % drop is not as crazy as growth (down from £27.2m in 2021 to £18.6m in 2025)

Sector trends:
🤖⁠ ⁠AI leads in both number of deals and total capital raised.
☁️⁠ ⁠Cloud computing ranks among the lowest by deal volume and capital raised.

Takeaway:  The fundraising market has become more selective, there are fewer rounds but larger average cheques, more first-time founders raising and strong concentration in AI.

This one single trait defines fate of a startup 👉  I / We / They.

I have been fortunate to spend time and learn from thousands ecommerce brands across geographies -  Founders and their teams. From idea inception stage to the ones doing upwards of $500 Mn revenue. 

During my meetings and conversation, I keenly observe how the teams address their company when they talk to us.

⭐ Founders - do they address their company as We or I.

⭐ Team members - do they address their company as I or We.

When founders address their teams as "We", magic happens. This empowers the team with accountability, responsibility but also bring them together working as a unit and they get due share of the credit and success.

On the other hand I have seen when a team member says "I", it comes from the heart. They might not be the founder but they take ownership of their task and responsibility as their own. Just yesterday I met a growth marketer who was referring to spending lakhs on meta and it sounded like he is spending his own money. To me this is how it should be done and becomes the fundamental reason for success of a company.

Any startup is like a machine and all the part need to be working together in syncrony for it to deliver value.

Spending time with industry stalwarts like Abhishek Jain & Anurag Kedia just echo's same thoughts and leadership style. Grateful for their time, insights and trust with Cooee.
