Wow - the below is depressing and stark for people seeking funding from VCs. In summary, the gross profit generated for VC investors from just three LLM companies is already roughly equivalent to ~70% of all VC profits from the entire previous decade.

On that basis, you can imagine how interested many VCs are in non-AI/LLM businesses right now?!  

While institutional capital is clustering around a tiny set of frontier AI companies, at FounderCatalyst we see many angels remaining far more balanced. Many are still backing companies across fintech, vertical SaaS, climate, health, and niche AI applications rather than chasing the same handful of foundation model companies.

Why?

Partly because angels play a different game; they invest earlier, where outcomes are less obvious and where access to the “obvious winners” is usually impossible anyway.

So instead of trying to access the same mega-deals, angels often focus on the thousands of second-order opportunities created by platform shifts.

And if AI really is the next major computing platform, history suggests those second-order companies may end up being where many early investors actually make their money.

Death and taxes - a change to Business Property Relief that all angels need to understand.

Dramatic post, for sure - but the potential impacts on inheritance tax are, I suspect, both unintended and disproportionately punishing for the family of angels with large portfolios.  I care deeply about this as an active angel myself, but also on behalf of FounderCatalyst
