With regard to my engineering background, I have over 20 years of experience in project design and coordination as a structural engineer. I have designed hundreds of projects with structural steel, concrete, precast, timber and masonry construction. My past projects range from new construction to existing building renovations and seismic upgrades, as well as other complex design-build projects. You followed the traditional advice
Got a degree, even made an executive level
But, it didn’t earn you any freedom

Did you follow the traditional path?
1️⃣ Go to school
2️⃣ Get a good degree
3️⃣ Maybe even an advanced degree
4️⃣ Get a good job and work your way up
5️⃣ Earn your way up the corporate ladder to executive

You got there. Nailed the traditional path
But, the traditional path doesn’t offer any freedom

❌ You can’t stop working…or the income stops
❌ You can’t take vacations without asking for permission
❌ You miss out on family time because you’re traveling for work
❌ You can’t make it to your kids’ sports/activities because of a meeting

The traditional path can get you to a high-paying job
But, investments are how you earn your freedom

(And I’m not talking 401k because you can’t touch that 
money until you’re just about 60)

For real freedom, you need investments that create passive cash flow
So, you earn the return without having to do the work.

My favorite choice is real estate, specifically apartments.

I’m seeing so many new job updates on LinkedIn the past few weeks.
Did you know changing jobs can open up a new
world of investing options?

Your new job means you have the freedom to choose 
what to do with your retirement account money 
from your previous job. 

And you don’t have to just roll it to your new 401k.

I’m not relying only on my 401k for retirement
And you don’t have to either

I still have a 401k, but I’m not counting on it as my only option.

I was tired of the limited choices available in my 401k.
And the only choices were investments in Wall St
(Just stocks and stock/bond funds)

But, I want to invest in other assets too…like real estate
Can’t do that in a 401k.

So I had to check out another option you might not have heard of…
A Self-Directed IRA

With a SDIRA, you can you can use your retirement account money to
💲 invest your retirement dollars in many different options
🔒 you’re not locked into just the stock market
❌ or the limited number of fund choices from most 401k plans
 
You have more control over your investment options and
Can invest in things real estate, art, crypto, etc.
That’s why I like it.

So, why does getting a new job open up a world of investment options?

Because if you have retirement accounts (401k, IRA, etc.) from previous jobs
You can roll those accounts over into a SDIRA and 
open up your investment choices.

Why limit yourself to only what a 401k offers?
Why not open up your options and not be forced to 
ride the stock market roller coaster?

PS If you changed jobs in late 2025, or early 2026, congratulations 
to you on your new role. 🎉

If you’re an executive, you may be making a significant salary
But, what are you giving up to make that happen?


I spoke to a friend the other day who is an executive 
and makes a significant salary. 

But, the discussion was more about what he’s giving up

There are certainly trade offs with almost anything in life. 
Deciding how to prioritize those trade offs is how 
we make the decisions we do.

His job is very demanding with 
👎 long hours
👎 lots of travel
👎 time away from family
👎 missing events in his kids’ lives
👎 extra pressure on the family when he’s away

Some people love this type of situation. 
Some people wonder if there is another way.

He was curious about finding another way.

While there are many options for finding another way, I suggested 
he might look into creating more passive income 
through real estate investing. 

Additional passive income can be a great way to offset earned income 
and allow him to consider different options with his role. 

Maybe even some options that free up more of his time.
