The Utrecht University Centre for Entrepreneurship (UtrechtCE) is constantly trying to nurture the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem of the university. In order to get real insights from the startup scene, we have invited entrepreneur Samir Saberi as Writer in Residence. His writings will cover the Dutch entrepreneurial ecosystem, bridging the worlds of entrepreneurs, academics and public policy.

During his time as Writer in Residence at UtrechtCE, Samir will collaborate closely with Erik Stam, Head of the Utrecht University School of Economics & Full Professor of Strategy, Organization and Entrepreneurship, to write a new book on Entrepreneurial Ecosystems. Samir Saberi will also work alongside other scholars from the centre to cover topics of interest for the Dutch startup ecosystem.

Finidia started out to make affordable (€50-€80 range) eco-friendly "individually customized" clothing initially, for women, using simple off-the-shelf cameras to measure, and scale the supply chain accordingly. 
For production, the idea is to massively scale by enabling women entrepreneurs to have their own business of making ecological clothes.
The project is still alive but not completed as it required multi-million Euro investment in the supply chain end.

Both opportunities had valid prototypes and were in the business building phase, with Business units, Marketing and Sales and customer divisions.  Each had potential customers and used Operator’s networks.
1.	New business development of M2M /Internet of things area targeting healthcare (Healthcare compliance using Wireless systems) and logistics verticals. Opportunity valued at $5.3 B over 5 years.
2.	New business development of real-time language translations. -customer dev. phase. Opportunity valued at $2B over 5 years.
Mobile “Cloud Service Architecture” for the Ericsson strategy group: This resulted in a strategic partnership between Ericsson and Akamai.
	
• Open-Innovations, Corporate Strategy (Digital Services), Corporate Venturing and Partnership management: Managed partnerships (200+companies in 4 years) and directly worked (with 10+) to find new opportunities. 
• Sponsored various events like “MoneyTalks” in Finland hosted by Technopolis Ventures. 
• Worked with more that 80% of the Nordic VCs for eco-system and venture development.
