Over the past six months I've seen my productivity literally 5x. When I think about it, there's probably one thing I can put it down to.

I've systemised my work in a way where I can speak my thoughts, refine them instantly, and commit them to a system that scales.

Here's the stack:

I'm literally using it right now to dictate this post. It lets me speak my thoughts in real-time instead of typing them out. My brain moves faster than my hands ever could.

This is where I refine everything. I don't use it to offload my thinking.

I use it to consolidate my thoughts and brainstorm ideas I wouldn't have landed on by myself. It challenges my assumptions and helps me think more holistically.

→ Cursor

This is my visual editor. Where the ideas and refinements turn into actual code, systems, and outputs. It's where execution happens.

→ GitHub 

After I've liaised with Claude and Cursor and updated relevant files based on new learnings, I commit everything to the cloud.

It's the central place where I store modularised Markdown files that act as skills.

Other people can access them, or I can pull them from anywhere. It's essential for keeping everything structured and scalable.

What I've realised is that this workflow doesn't just make me faster. It makes me sharper.

Because in order to get AI to do what I actually want, I have to break things down so fundamentally that I'm essentially creating SOPs for everything I do.

Which means I become more aware of my own process instead of just doing things routinely.

It's not about offloading thinking. It's about consolidating understanding.

I'm able to move faster, think deeper, and execute cleaner than I ever could.

Something's shifted in the last 18 months. And smart revenue leaders are beginning to adjust.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately.

Funds aren't throwing money around like they used to.

The money is drying up and VCs actually care about profitability now, not just revenue growth.

Which means every $ you spend needs to return a greater ROI

It's one thing to get excited when your reps are booking meetings.

But have you reverse-engineered how much that's actually costing you?

Metrics such as CAC are top of mind when we think of paid channels but are you taking it into consideration in your outbound?

Sales reps aren't cheap but often their time is being spent on TOFU activities 

In the past that wasn't a problem but now the economics don't really make sense anymore.

Now here's what's really interesting...

What I'm seeing from most of the conversations we're having at Understory is that some leaders are starting to understand this.

They're partnering with us as the experts who actually know how to drive TOFU... efficiently.

Their lean team move onto higher-leverage tasks, like converting that interest into pipeline and revenue.

Their time is spent on converting MQLs that we generate into SQLs and then into closed rev

Now because Understory supplements programmatic outbound with paid channels, it further increases penetration into those target accounts.

And often it leads to them just putting it to the side completely or constantly chasing new tools they believe will be answer

But here's what's actually happening.

The issue isn't the tools. It's how the systems are being built.

Most teams try to do too much in a single step or prompt if you like.

They build a workflow that extracts data, processes it, and outputs a result all at once 🤦‍♂️

But that's where things break down.

We wouldn't expect an employee to juggle multiple tasks in their working memory, so why do we expect the same here?

The best workflows are chunked into finer, digestible steps.

Something like:

→ Process & analyse the data
→ Score and validate it based on confidence

These guardrails matter. It allows you to actually have confidence in the systems you've build

Because if you're constantly double-checking everything for validity, there was no point in automating it in the first place.

This is especially important for teams that have a brand to protect.

If you're using automation in your GTM and the first touchpoint is based on poor data, you've just damaged a relationship.

That's not a tool problem. That's a system design problem.

Automation should give you confidence, not more work.

And that comes down to how you architect the workflow, not which software you're using 🧏🏾‍♂️
