In a Long Term Structured Residence (LTSR) setting, I provided long term care to adult patients in the form  of assisting them in developing independent living skills, including securing and managing entitlements, budgeting of finances, and community integration. I further assisted patients by formulating psychosocial assessments and implementing treatment plans, which included clinical recommendations to improve resident’s involvement in programming to enhance self-care and wellness. 

☛ As an independent contractor, I provided new employment and on board clinical training of newly employed master level social workers. 

☛A major contribution, I established high quality social services to enhance the lives of the residents through providing community support and psycho-education to enhance autonomy.

Licensed Social Worker

Belmont Behavioral Health Hospital

In a sub-acute setting, I managed 25-30 patients providing reliable psychotherapeutic care both on an individual and group basis. My specialty was treating the most vulnerable populations. The care I provided was on an outpatient, partial hospitalization care program. 

I had many accomplishments during this role that show my expertise in assisting my clients:

☛Through obtaining of an additional Certified Grief Counselor, I facilitated the creation of a psychoeducational group, “Healing in Recovery” which helped our long-term, mentally ill patients deal with grief and loss.

☛I had a hand in the building of a strong treatment team by mentoring new therapists and independent contracts as well as providing training to the staff on advanced methodologies including grief counseling, play therapy, and mindfulness meditation.

☛I built a bridge between sub-acute hospital programing and other mental health agencies to promote continuation of care while fostering strong relationships with families, agency representatives, and the other community supports available for patients.

☛To better assist our patient base, I proactively established psycho-educational groups that boosted positive outcomes covering grief and loss, sand tray play therapy, mindfulness meditation and aromatherapy, current events, substance abuse and recovery, health relationships, and positive parenting.

☛During the first three years, I was the only licensed therapist serving our clientele, providing ongoing primary therapist coverage for other levels of care including acute and intensive outpatient (IOP).

☛I developed enhancements to our partial hospitalization programming through psychoeducation groups that focused on skills training and ongoing guidance, helping our patients develop skills in managing mental illness which focused on utilizing problem-solving skills to build coping skills.

Psychotherapist

I promoted care across the many available treatment options for patients, serving in- and out-patient drug and alcohol facilities as well as behavioral health psychiatric units. Beyond formal treatment, I assisted patients in finding and accessing community resources that could help them get back on their feet and support their needs. I cared for patients by helping them deal with crises, define goals and develop achievable action plans to improve their lives. To establish care for new patients, I oversaw psychosocial assessments that determined patient condition and defined patients’ medical and bio-psychosocial needs. Once needs were assessed, I built an initial treatment plan, developed proper referrals, and established discharge plans all aimed at boosting patient success and optimize care. I documented the patient’s care according to organizational, local, and federal guidelines to maintain required compliance. 

☛A major contribution, I established high-level patient care through leading of psychotherapeutic groups that focused on those areas after care – relapse prevention, care after treatment, and building support through families and the community to support patient recovery.

The Women's Collective

I specialized in helping the HIV/AIDS community, including specifically women, their partners, and their family members to educate and provide support. Working with clients, I helped identify other sources of trauma, including sexual trauma, PTSD, homelessness, and bereavement that contribute to patient issues, and provided detailed counseling to assist their recovery. Administration was also part of my duties where I conducted intake screenings and follow up interviews to build a record of patient condition and monitor patients’ status. During intake interviews, I ascertained their current medical condition and identified physical, mental, social, and emotional needs that needed addressing. I crafted detailed client service plans, building a plan to aid patient recovery and treatment which included making applicable referrals to other specialized service providers. As a staff leader, I mentored and trained new Medical Case Managers, ensuring that their services were provided within organizational policies and procedures.

Some of my proudest accomplishments include:

☛Collaborating to provide educational workshops that educated patients on treatment adherence, disease co-morbidities, and self-care to encourage positive outcomes for HIV/AIDS patients.

☛While serving on the Project Coordinator and Steering Committee, I lead events that guided awareness such as the National Women’s Health Week, National Women and Girls HIV Awareness Day, and the AIDS Memorial Quilt.

Journey to Licensure ®️ was birthed out of my own decade long journey of getting my LCSW. 

It took many years to get my clinical licensure due to many life barriers including going through a difficult military marriage; divorce; losing my first born daughter; dealing with post-part depression, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, ADHD Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder; Learning Disorder and having to rebuild my clinical career while dealing with the struggles of being a single mother. 

Through Journey to Licensure ®️, I combine my clinical skills as a trained psychotherapist to provide holistic wellness coaching with test strategy and mastery of test content through individual and group coaching work.
