GenZ's can't do 9-5?

I'm a GenZ and I haven't taken a break in 3 years.

I’ve heard so many people say that GenZ can't do the hard work. 

But here’s what I’ve observed instead is that when GenZ enjoys the work, they don’t look at their watches. 

I started working at 18. Not because someone forced me to or I had a boss on my head. But because I genuinely liked building, creating and solving. (oh I forgot earning as well!)

A few days ago, a client called me at 10:30 PM, from her honeymoon. I was midway through dinner and I wrapped up the task in 30 minutes and went back to my food.

Simply because I genuinely cared.

It's not something I want to brag about, it's something every GenZ owns, the commitment to work when we enjoy what we do

GenZ doesn’t hate the 9–5. We just refuse to live only for it.

Gen Z needs focus.


That’s the first thing Dr. A. Velumani PhD. told me when we spoke.

He wasn't criticising us. But he said that the problem is not success but sustaining it. 

We often associate our generation with speed but sustaining anything requires focus and not everyone is good at it. 

You won't believe this but every founder or investor that I asked this question to at Bharat ke Super Founders told me the same. Their complain with us was not talent or ambition but discipline, focus and clarity. 

Weird how most of them can already see the cost of scattered attention, while we are still learning it. 

We have too many opportunities, platforms and opinions about things, we just don't know how to stick to one of them. 

The entire event made me realise how important the basics are: 
- Discipline works even when motivation fades
- Flexible work is useful, but responsibility is still yours
- The best thing women founders can build is resilience
- Founders who last don’t go after every new trend

The experience felt less like an event and more like a reality check.

We have more options than any generation before us.
We just have to learn how to stay with one long enough to see where it leads.

I will finally admit this, I don’t have any time for content.


I hear this from founders all the time. And honestly, I’ve said it myself.

When you’re building a business, content feels like something you’ll get to once things settle. So you post only when there’s a launch, win or something to promote. 

It works for a while until you realise people only know you for what you sell, not how you think. That is the biggest gap.

Instead of treating content like a separate job, try sharing what you already do, observe and learn on a daily basis. 

Because your company proves what you do, your voice shows how you think and that’s what builds trust. 

You just need a slightly wider lens on the work you’re already doing.

Trust me, that’s a much easier place to start.

I was invited to Bharat ke Super Founders to speak with VCs and founders.

And I did not even shake once speak to all of them. 

The 18 year old me probably would not have even dared to speak because of pressure. 

But after working with founders for over 5 years I did not even realise that I got better at sales, communication, work, quality and so much more...

While I was standing there simply asking questions, a VC complimented "That's such a good question."

Did I want to hear it? Probably not. But yes, when he said so, it made me realise that the people you work with and surround yourself with help you so much to grow and reflect what kind of intellect you develop with time. 

Today I am fine not knowing it all, but I am grateful to be in rooms I didn't know I deserved to be.

More than half of what we do today is only to please others. 


Not whether it makes sense for me, but if it does on the internet. 

I’ve booked a trip and thought more about “content” than rest.
Choose a restaurant because it’s “aesthetic” and not for the food. 

And slowly, joy slips out of the equation.

I hate admitting it, but I’ve been there.
Thinking “Will this look good if I post it?”
Instead of “Do I even want this?”

Honestly, it is exhausting because the internet has no end.  There’s always a next thing to share and a next thing to prove.

But when I look back? The moments I still smile about never made it online.

That shift from “how it’ll look” to “how it’ll feel” has saved me from so many choices I would’ve regretted.

Because when something feels right offline, it doesn’t matter what it looks like online.

We all check what others are doing before we figure out what we want to do.


It feels logical. Look at what's working, find the gap and do something a little different.

But competitor analysis is useful, however not as a starting point. Because the problem is that you end up building around them, not yourself.

Your message starts to sound like a remix. Familiar enough to fit in, different enough to feel original. But not really either.

The brands (and people) that actually stand out aren't the ones who studied the competition hardest. They're the ones who got really clear on themselves first.

What do I actually believe? Who am I genuinely best for? What am I not willing to change, even if it costs me?

That's where real differentiation comes from. 

Once you have that, competitors analysis is useful. You stop trying to be different and start showing why you're right for the people who get it.

Figure out who you are first and everything else follows.

5 years in content. 


And I have been working across sectors, founders, profiles at every stage.

But the 1 reason profiles grow is because of the person you're working with.

Most people hire an agency and immediately become the creative director.
"Can we do it more like this person?"
"This format is trending, let's copy it."
"I'm paying for this, so it needs to go my way."

That's fair. It's their money. But almost every profile I've seen genuinely grow, 80 to 90% of them, had one thing in common.

Someone who gave the team space to experiment and patience to let something build. When a founder trusts you, literally everything changes. 

I've worked with founders who changed direction every few weeks. New reference or inspiration from someone they just started following. The content never found its voice because it was never given the chance to. 

And I've worked with founders who give you the space and liberty to really do things the way you feel is right. 

So while we talk a lot about strategies and systems, one factor behind many successful profiles is trust.

Sometimes the best thing a founder can do for their content is simple. Let the people you hired do what they’re good at.

It is so weird to grow up in this generation.


Because there is this constant pressure to make everything perfect. 

You are just expected to know the right things, say the right things and even build the right things.

And somehow, do all of it early. Because even 23 feels like 25. 

But something I realised early and say to people around me all the time is personal growth always comes from moments that feel far less glamorous.

• Getting something completely wrong in public
• Showing up terrified and doing it anyway
• Realising you might actually be the problem

None of this will feel good when they happen but they make you who you are. 

Because the truth is, we have all the information. We just lack the willingness to sit with discomfort long enough to improve.

It's okay to not know something or know it but not be good at it. You just need to spend time to actually practice it, implement it and fail at it repeatedly until you get better.

I know it is not easy, but it is important, and our generation needs to learn that.

I hate the concept of a personal brand so much.


Strange thing to say when you work in this space but the version of it we see today feels very different from what it once was.

When I started in 2021, people took time to figure out what they actually wanted to stand for. The process was as important as the output.

Now it often looks like just a system. You generate topics, get AI drafts, schedule posts and repeat.

But is this really what anyone is paying for? Or is this worth anyone’s time?

I’m not against AI or scale. Tools are useful but when everything becomes automated, you get consistency and volume but not perspective. 

A while ago, someone came to us after working with another agency and said something interesting. They would send their thoughts and experiences but none of it was used. What they were posting was like everyone else. 

Honestly, it's good that it is easier to produce content. But I am scared that it’s easier to produce without thinking.

I am glad that since day 1, we spend time understanding what someone believes, what they’ve learned the hard way and what they want to be known for and only then do we decide if it’s worth sharing. 

It often means fewer posts, but far more honesty.

I am fine with not being everywhere, but at least having people come back for content because they actually enjoy it. 

Maybe I’m overthinking it… but are you seeing this too?

The richest people I have met struggle with this and openly admit they are not smart enough to solve it.


I have worked with founders, creators, VCs, podcasters and people who've genuinely changed lives and built real things.

Almost all of them have said this once - "I don't know what to talk about."

But one conversation with them and I can see 15–20 content directions for them and stories that would actually help people.

So why can I see it in an hour, but they can't see it after years?

Because you can't read the label from inside the bottle. Your strengths feel so normal that you assume everyone thinks like you. They really don't.

And the moment you try to build a personal brand, you're hit with the uncomfortable stuff like, What do I stand for? Does my story even matter?

That's not a marketing problem. That's a self-recognition problem.

I'm 22 and positioning other people is genuinely easier than positioning myself.

Most talented people just can't accept that their messy path is exactly what makes them worth listening to.

Authority is built by seeing yourself clearly to say that this is what I stand for.

Most people haven't slowed down long enough to do that work.

There's a point in life when you just can't settle for less. 


Growth makes you harder to please. And that's okay.

The more you grow, the less you're willing to settle. And for a while, that feels like a problem.

Work that felt good enough before, doesn't anymore. People you once enjoyed being around, start feeling draining. Standards you held a year ago feel embarrassingly low now.

Nothing outside of you has changed. But you have.

And that's actually the most honest sign that you're growing.

It's the discomfort of realising you've outgrown something. Maybe a way of working or conversation or a version of yourself that you used to be completely fine with.

It can feel lonely. Like you're becoming difficult, or too particular, or hard to please.

You're not. You're just becoming more aware of what actually works for you and what never really did.

The hard part isn't the growth. It's giving yourself permission to honour it.

The posts founders hesitate to publish often perform the best.


After working closely with founders on their content for the last few years, this is a pattern I see all the time.

The most interesting ideas rarely come from planned brainstorming sessions. 

They usually appear during conversations, when a founder shares a strong observation from their experience, something about hiring, building a team, or a perspective that doesn’t match what everyone else is saying online.

But when that same thought needs to become a post, the hesitation starts.

“Maybe this is too direct.” “Should we soften this a little?”

And slowly, the original idea becomes safer.

The intention makes sense. Founders know that whatever they say publicly reflects on them and their company. But when the thought disappears, the post loses what made it interesting.

In my experience, founder-led content works best when it carries a clear point of view. Because people are trying to understand how someone building a business actually thinks.

Which is why the posts founders almost decide not to share are often the ones that resonate the most.

I've now written for people with 500 followers and people with 500,000. The difference...

Most people misunderstand their target audience and keep looking for LinkedIn cheat codes

It took me 4 years to realise there's only one cheat code! If you are at 500 followers, then try to pick two content topics:

1. One that is very generic, for example, the Pomodoro technique
2. Second, which has high demand but less supply, let's say- "Which mutual fund never to buy!"

What this does is, if you package the same information that everybody knows in such a way that it looks new, people will engage with it, and people will try to get to know you. And after that...

When you offer new, unique insights, people will relate to them and follow you. That is how you can gain followers.

If you already have 500,000 followers, see who is following you. Understand your community and then address their pain points in your own unique way, it will build credibility and get good reach and engagement.

What is the ultimate cheat code that worked for you?

Your brand is only as strong as your face now.


And the brands that figured this out are winning.

For years, the idea was to keep founders behind the scenes and let the product do the talking. That’s slowly changing.

Now, the founder is becoming a key part of distribution.

Their content, taste and presence shapes how people discover and trust the brand. A simple post can do what campaigns used to do, and over time, the gap between the brand and the audience almost disappears.

We don't buy products anymore. The product is almost secondary, it's a souvenir from the relationship.

But there’s a flip side that not many talk about.

When growth is tied so closely to the founder, the brand also becomes dependent on them. Which means the brand can only scale as far as the founder is willing or able to show up.

And that’s a very different kind of ceiling.

We’re moving from product-led brands to personality-led brands.

But how sustainable is that? Nobody's having that conversation yet.

What should a first time entrepreneur never take for granted?

On 13 February, the day Bharat ke Super Founders marked crossing ₹100 crores in investments, this conversation stood out.


While the ecosystem celebrated scale, Sharad Bansal spoke about clarity. His advice to first-time founders was simple and grounded.

Do not just start with passion. Start with a deadline.
Give yourself three years or five years.
Commit fully. Put in your 200 percent.

If it works, you win.
If it does not, you walk away knowing you gave it everything.

This interview was not about funding.
It was about intent.

And perhaps that is what crossing ₹100 crores really represents. An ecosystem that values honesty, conviction, and long-term thinking over noise.

Sometimes the most powerful decision a founder makes is deciding how long they are willing to fight.
