after my partner finished pregnancy, she didn't want to go back to the gym.

so when i told her: 

”that's your level 10 hard”

she looked at me like she wanted to throw something.

but here's what i mean by that.

(and it’s this concept that’s helped me overcome every single business and life obstacle i’ve ever faced)

EVERYTHING is a level 10 hard if you've never faced it before.

for example…

at eight weeks, our daughter had her first immunisation jabs. she went from this little cushy world to suddenly getting stabbed by a stranger.

for me right now, figuring out how to take this company to the next stage is my level 10 hard. i've never done it before and some days it feels like the most impossible thing in the world.

but when i look back at everything that used to be level 10 hard:

- quitting my corporate job on the spot after being told i was "bullying" my boss
- taking any client who'd pay me anything just to not go broke
- working 19-hour days, 7 days a week building Premium Inboxes
- nearly losing my relationship because my partner thought we were lodgers passing in the night

every single one of those felt like the hardest thing i'd ever done at the time.

and every single one became something i got through.

so when it gets hard again (and it does, constantly)…

i just ask myself: 

how many level 10 hards have i been through that i was able to get past?

the answer is always quite a lot.

few years ago, i got out of a taxi in Monaco and nearly lost my leg. 

ripped my knee completely out of the socket. ACL, MCL, PCL, meniscus, popliteal artery… 

all gone.

i spent two months in a hospital in France. 14 surgeries that year. they were genuinely discussing amputating below the knee.

i now live with something called ‘drop foot’. 

can't lift my left foot anymore, and I wear an ankle brace every day just to walk around my house.

so when i finally got back to England, i couldn't work in person or visit clients. couldn't even shower without help.

the only thing i could still do was sit at a desk and take sales calls.

so that's what i did.

went all in on high-ticket closing. became a closer for my now business partner Tom's cold email agency. scaled it to $170K a month in cash collected.

and then we hit the same wall every agency hits. unreliable infrastructure providers, inboxes not delivered on time, and a $25,000 invoice held to ransom with a "pay or we wipe everything" ultimatum.

so we built the fix ourselves.

one person asked what we were using. then five more. and within a few weeks it was double digits.

four weeks later we were at a million ARR.

people look at Premium Inboxes and think it happened fast. it didn't.

10 years of corporate sales getting commission rug-pulled. 2 years of swinging my arms in the dark taking any client who would pay me anything. a freak accident that changed how my body works permanently.

one of the scammiest patterns i've noticed in the cold email world: 

the guy telling you Google infrastructure is broken: 
→ they have an SMTP product to sell.

the lad telling you cold email is dying: 
→ they sell cold calling software.

and the one saying outbound doesn't work anymore: 
→ runs an inbound content agency.

funny how that works, yeah?

i'm not saying people are shady. i'm saying people push the narrative that benefits them. obviously. i'd probably do it too.

but take a step back and think about what you're actually being told.

you think Mr Joe Bloggs who sat in his bedroom and coded an SMTP server with five clients that breaks every three months is better than Google, one of the biggest companies on the planet?

i've been proven wrong before and i'll be proven wrong again…

…but probably not by that guy.

when Google had that crackdown in September, i watched someone who was already selling SMTP use the chaos to push their product on the back of it. taking the carnage to profiteer off a situation they didn't create.

if you're there to give genuine information, give genuine unbiased information. 

if you're there to sell, sell. 

but don't blend the two and act like the good Samaritan while doing it.

the reality is (and ALWAYS will be) cold email infrastructure works. 

it's worked for over 2,000 teams through our setup alone.

the people saying it's broken, 9 times out of 10, have something to sell you. 

look at what that something is before you take their word for it.

this lad reached out to me with a bunch of FREE content ideas… plus an entire YT video with tailored ideas specifically for my niche. 

then, he asked for absolutely nothing in return.

i absolutely love this. 

giving SO MUCH value that saying ‘no’… feels wrong.

compare that to: 

- generic email template sent to 5,000 people
- "hey {first_name}, i noticed your company does X"
- immediate ask for a call
- follow up with "just bumping this" when they don't reply
- wonder why nobody responds

this ‘give-before-ask’ approach will work 100x better:

- create a value asset for the prospect like a mini audit, a Loom teardown, a tactical checklist or a few content samples
- same structure and talking points every time, just swap the specifics for each prospect
- deliver it in the initial outreach and ask for nothing
- follow up with MORE value instead of "just checking in"
- you can do 10 of these per hour once you've got the system down

shout out everyone going the extra mile!

Most people's cold email strategy is basically spam.

They filter by job title, pull a massive list, and blast thousands of emails to people who have zero
reason to care.

comes down to one thing: intent.

instead of: 

• four paragraphs
• a calendly link
• some generic "i'd love to pick your brain"

use the ‘PPQ’ framework:

(we’ve used this across hundreds of accounts, and it’s outperformed every other framework we've ever tested)

• P (Problem): their specific pain, in their words. what's keeping them up at night.
• P (Proof): a quick line of social proof matched to their industry. something like "helped a DTC brand increase sales 28% in 60 days" placed right before the CTA as a casual mention.
• Q (Question): a soft CTA that's easy to say yes to. "would it be crazy to hop on a quick call?" or "is this worth exploring?"

the whole email should be 80 words max…

…and you DON’T need a pitch deck or a calendly link in email 1 to make it work.

if you can't write the email in under 80 words, you're trying to say too much. 

strip it back until it fits.

i’ve been in the cold email game for years now. and this is the SINGLE biggest thing i see separating campaigns that book meetings from campaigns that underperform. 

instead of targeting "business owners" or "marketing managers”…

…you get hyper specific.

as he puts it in his book:

with cold outreach, you can be as specific as you want. if you only want to talk to hedge fund managers managing over $1 billion, you can. if you only want golfer power retail store owners doing $3 million in sales, you can.

the next layer is timing.

Hormozi calls these "pain triggers." 

behavioural signals that show someone is ready to buy RIGHT now:

1. recent funding round means they have cash and urgency
2. company is hiring fast means they're scaling and need help
3. leadership changes means new decision makers with new priorities

when you match a hyper-specific avatar with the right timing signal, your reply rates change completely.

because if you solve a specific problem for a specific person at the exact right moment, they will respond. that's just common sense applied properly.

narrowing your list feels counterintuitive…

feels like you're leaving money on the table. 

but you're actually cutting out the rubbish, so the signal lands where it should.

most of your replies will NOT come from your first cold email.

they'll come from email 3, 4, or 5.

your prospect's inbox has 100 other messages in it. they're not ignoring you. they just didn't see it.

but if your follow-up strategy is "just bumping this up!"…

 that is the fastest way to be ignored by anybody, whether it's a prospect or a girl you want to date.

every follow-up needs to add something new:

• Email 2: a case study relevant to their industry, or a fresh insight you found about their business
• Email 3: ask if you were off base or if the timing was just wrong, which makes it easy to respond without committing
• Email 4: light scarcity with something like "i still have a couple of spots this week if this is relevant"
• Email 5: the breakup, where you say "no worries if now's not the right time, feel free to reach out if things change," and this one often gets the highest response rate of the whole sequence

each email gives them a different reason to respond. a case study builds trust while the feedback ask lowers the barrier, and that light urgency in email 4 is what finally gets people off the fence.

if you're sending the same "following up!" message four times in a row, you're training them to ignore you.

every touchpoint earns its place or it doesn't go out.
