Over the past few weeks, I have been relatively quiet on LinkedIn. 

For someone who works closely with leaders, founders, and professionals on personal branding and LinkedIn positioning, that might seem unusual.

But in my experience, meaningful visibility is not about posting constantly.
It is about showing up with clarity of thinking and depth of perspective.

The short pause gave me space to reflect on a few things:
 • How professionals are approaching LinkedIn today
 • Why many capable people remain invisible despite strong work
 • And how personal branding must evolve beyond surface-level activity

LinkedIn is no longer just a platform for updates.

It has become a professional infrastructure for careers, credibility, and opportunities.

When used intentionally, it can help professionals:

 • Attract the right collaborations and roles
 • Convert visibility into real professional outcomes

Layoffs in India in early 2026 continue to affect the technology and startup sectors, with over 4,500 startup employees laid off in the eight months leading up to February 2026. 

While artificial intelligence (AI) is a factor, the primary reasons are centered on business restructuring, funding challenges, and a shift towards profitability. Source: India Today
 
Key Reasons for Layoffs in India (2026):

Strategic Restructuring & Operational Efficiency: Many companies are moving beyond simple cost-cutting to reorganizing teams to reduce redundancy and enhance efficiency, such as consolidating regional offices (e.g., Myntra shifting roles from Gurgaon to Bengaluru).

Funding Squeeze & Investor Pressure: Startups are under increased pressure from investors to deliver sustainable, profitable business models rather than focusing on growth-at-all-costs, leading to leaner teams.

AI Adoption & Automation: While not the only factor, AI is accelerating job losses by automating routine tasks and prompting companies to restructure for an AI-first approach.

Regulatory Shocks: Specific sectors, particularly online real-money gaming, have faced sudden regulatory bans that caused immediate, large-scale layoffs.

Skill Mismatch: There is a significant gap between the skills employees have and the new skills required (e.g., AI, data engineering), leading to layoffs of roles tied to legacy technologies.

Key Trends & Impacted Sectors:

Startups: Hardest hit, with significant cuts in companies like Zepto, Krutrim, Porter, and others.

Tech & IT Services: While large IT firms have remained relatively stable in headcount, hiring remains slow and cautious.

Global Capability Centers (GCCs): While adding new roles, some GCCs have continued to cut jobs due to parent company issues or restructuring.

Job Market Strain: The number of applicants per job in India has more than doubled since early 2022, creating high competition.

Age Bias Concerns: Mid-career professionals (over 40) are experiencing a "quiet exclusion," where experience is increasingly treated as too expensive or rigid, making them vulnerable to restructuring.  Source: Angel One

It used to be simple.

📍You created a profile.
📍Uploaded your resume.
📍Maybe applied for a few jobs.

And that was it.

📍A digital CV.
📍A professional directory.
📍A place recruiters visited.

But somewhere along the way, LinkedIn quietly evolved.

Today it is not just a job portal.

📍A credibility engine.
📍A trust marketplace.
📍It is a thinking platform.

People don’t come here only to hire.

They come here to observe how you think.

📍Your ideas.
📍Your stories.
📍Your experiences.

Your ability to explain what you know.

And that’s exactly why the platform behaviour has changed.

Here’s what I’ve noticed while working with professionals and founders building authority here.

Earlier:
📍Short posts.
📍Motivational quotes.
📍Random infographics.

Today:
📍Depth wins.

✅ People are saving useful content.
✅ They are reading longer posts than before.
✅ Sharing ideas that actually help them think better.

Earlier people chased likes.

Today the real signals are different.

✅ Saves.
✅ Shares.
✅ Conversations in comments.
✅ People reaching out saying “This helped me.”

Photos have changed too.

Endless selfies don’t build credibility.

But a picture of you:
📍Running a workshop, 
📍Speaking on stage, 
📍Solving a problem
📍Teaching a class, 

That builds trust instantly.✅

Carousels have changed as well.

People don’t ❌ want “7 signs of a bad manager”.

They want real insights, real thinking, real stories.

Even commenting has changed.

A thoughtful comment can reach more people than a post.

And here’s the biggest shift I see.

Motivational noise is fading.

Authentic thinking is rising.

The people growing fastest on LinkedIn today are not the loudest.

They are the ones who are clear, useful, and human.

Which brings me to a simple question.

If someone spends 5 minutes on your profile today,

Do they only see your designation?

Or do they understand how you think and what you stand for?

Because on the new #LinkedIn…

Visibility comes from credibility.

And credibility is built one thoughtful post at a time.

I send 10 outreach messages a day on LinkedIn. 7 replies. Here's the exact script I use.

It's stupidly simple, and most people are overcomplicating it.

Most people do it like this:

- Send a 300-word AI-written message nobody asked for 
- Open with "I hope this message finds you well" 
- Pitch their service in the first line 
- Copy-paste the same message to 100 people and wonder why nobody replies

Here's the exact 4-step framework (and the psychology behind why it works):

Step 1: Name. 

Always. Hi [Name]. Not "hi there." Not "hey!" The brain is wired to respond to its own name. It signals, this is for me, not a blast. Most people skip this. Don't.

Step 2: One personalized line. 

Reference something specific, their recent post, their story, their niche. Not a compliment. An observation. "I saw your post on founder burnout, that part about silent sacrifices hit differently." This is similarity bias at work. When someone feels understood, their guard drops instantly. This one line does 80% of the work.

Step 3: A 4-5 word intro. 

"I run a personal branding agency." Short. Clear. No fluff. No credentials dump. Brevity signals confidence. Long intros signal insecurity. Messages under 100 words get 50% more replies. Every extra word costs you.

Step 4: Offer free value. 

Don't pitch. "I had one quick idea for your LinkedIn profile, would it be okay if I shared it?" This is reciprocity - The most powerful principle of influence. Give first. Ask nothing. People feel compelled to respond when they receive before they're sold to.

A real example of what this looks like put together:

"Hi Aman, I came across your post on scaling without a team, the part about doing everything yourself really resonated. I run a personal branding agency. I had one quick idea for your content strategy - happy to share if it'd be useful?"

Under 60 words. Human. Specific.

Write to one person. 
Make them feel seen. 
That's the whole game.
