We achieve this through clothing drive fundraisers, gathering gently used clothing to provide essential items for teens in need. Additionally, we conduct online money fundraising campaigns to cover medical and school expenses, ensuring financial barriers don't hinder their education. Partnering with social work organizations and community projects, we offer comprehensive support systems to empower teenagers and their families. Additionally, with the generous support of our donors, we have donated over $250,000 worth of PPE products to public hospitals, schools, and local clinics in Honduras during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021.

I’m looking at the final results of my poll… and I’m not sure if this is good or bad.
𝟭𝟭𝟰 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝘂t 𝟵𝟯% 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘃𝗮𝗿𝘆.

When I asked:

“𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝟱 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀... 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻?”

 …the answer was overwhelmingly “no.”

So, let’s dig into this.

These results tell me something very clear:

Procurement is not standardized across industries, maturity levels, or organizations. (And the comments reflected the same pattern.)

Naturally, the definitions follow that same variation.
 
But is this good or bad?
Well, I think both!

𝗚𝗢𝗢𝗗 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲:
It shows procurement is broad, strategic, and evolving.
It welcomes people from ALL backgrounds.
It proves the profession is dynamic, not rigid.
It reflects real diversity of work and impact.

𝗕𝗔𝗗 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲:
𝙁𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙚𝙭𝙩 𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣:
It can create confusion. (I really think so)

𝙁𝙤𝙧 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨:
It becomes harder to understand:
what procurement actually is
what skills to build
and what career path exists

𝙁𝙤𝙧 𝙗𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙨:
It makes it harder to articulate procurement’s value consistently.
So the variation isn’t “bad,”but it does mean we need to do better at storytelling, branding, and educating.

Yes, storytelling! (Exactly why I’m doing some of this through filmmaking and our initiatives.)

𝗦𝗼 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀?

The outcome isn’t negative.
It simply confirms something many of us intuitively knew:

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗩𝗔𝗟𝗨𝗘 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗱.

And to role as a leader is to help define that value and not limit the definition.

The problem is when the value isn’t defined clearly.
