People think the difference between a $70k BDR and an $120k BDR is talent. 

It’s not.

It really comes down to two things:

1. How they prioritize their day
2. How focused their work is

1. Prioritization

Top performers don’t start their day randomly. They follow a clear order:

• They warm up before they go outbound
• They build their day around intent, not volume
• Cold outreach is the last step

Low performers skip all of this.
They start cold… and stay cold.

2. Focused work

The second gap is simple: focus.

Too many BDRs spend their day switching tasks nonstop:

Cold calls → emails → Slack → meetings → LinkedIn → back to calls → random admin → more emails.

By the end of the day, they’ve done a little of everything
and a whole lot of nothing.

Top performers do the opposite:

One tab open.
One task.
For long, uninterrupted blocks.

If they’re calling, they only call.
If they’re emailing, they only email.
No switching, no jumping, no chaos.

Focus creates output.
Switching destroys it.

If you want to level up as a BDR, keep it simple:

Prioritize the right things.
Then give each one your full attention.

But the market has shifted.

We’re seeing a clear pattern across the companies winning today:

I am a lifetime BDR… on purpose. Shocking, right?

People still get confused when I tell them I never wanted to “move up” to AE.

Because the industry has pushed one path for years:

Here’s the truth:

I’m not a BDR because it’s the starting point.
I’m a BDR because it’s the craft.

My work is the strategy.

I’m not waiting for someone else to set the GTM direction.

I build the outbound engine myself:
• ICPs, triggers, messaging
• Multi-channel plays
• Positioning that actually converts
• If something doesn't work I pivot
• Find growth hacks outside the box

That’s not “junior.”
That’s not “temporary.”
That’s not “do more calls.”

This is high-skill, high-leverage work.

The old model said BDR is where you start.
The new model says BDR is where the real builders stay.

And there's a lot of money to be made here.

The old-school BDR role is dead.
(and most companies still haven’t realized it)

statistically, the traditional model had a 3% chance of working:

hire juniors → give them scripts → tell them to grind → watch them quit → start over.

zero knowledge stays. zero consistency. zero scalability.

i refused to accept that.

i stopped playing the volume game.
i stopped hiring rookies because “that’s how it’s always been.”
i stopped pretending BDR was an entry-level role.

and the moment i flipped the model, everything changed.

here’s the new era 👇
→ smaller teams of elite BDRs
→ full outbound pod: caller, email specialist, LI, strategist, GTM engineer
→ no junior titles
→ high pay, high ownership, high expectations
→ deep alignment with AEs + marketing
→ built to last, not burn out

the result?

teams don’t churn.
pipeline becomes predictable instead of “pray and spray.”

this is what most companies get wrong:
they think outbound is a numbers game.
it’s not.
it’s a systems game.

and the people who win?
they build systems that don’t reset every 12 months when another BDR leaves.

I saw the news about lemlist acquiring Claap.

What stood out to me is how clearly it shows where sales tools are going.

The themes they talked about were pretty straightforward:

- Outreach in one place (email, LinkedIn, calls)
- AI doing the busy work (recording calls, summarizing, next steps)
- Better intent signals (not just opens, but what was actually said)

None of this is surprising, but it’s a sign of the direction things are moving. Teams want fewer tools, less manual work, and clearer signals on who to focus on.

Feels like the industry is slowly shifting toward connecting all three:

1. outreach
2. automation
3. data insights

Simple shift, but a big one for anyone running a GTM team.

A few years ago, every SaaS founder I spoke to believed the same thing:

“If we hire 10 junior BDRs and give them scripts… pipeline will show up.”

And for a while, it kind of worked.

But eventually reality hit:

• New grads didn’t understand the market
• Scripts stopped working
• ZoomInfo lists got abused
• Leadership kept yelling “more calls”
• Top BDRs left the second they became good
• And every January… the team had to be rebuilt from scratch

It became a treadmill.
Fast, expensive, and going nowhere.

Then something changed.

The companies that stopped scaling headcount and started scaling expertise… pulled away from the pack.

Not 10 juniors.
Three top perfoming BDRs.

Not “BDR fresh out of university.”
Not “prove yourself for $65K.”
Not “BDR below AE.”

But BDRs with several years of experince.

And the results weren’t subtle:

• Fewer reps → more qualified meetings
• BDRs remained in-seat far longer
• Ramp time disappeared
• Pipeline became predictable, not lucky

This wasn’t a small adjustment.
It was the end of the entry-level BDR era.

2026 is the year of the expert BDR.

 I picked a strict deadline (5 weeks). You can choose 5, 8, or 12 - what matters is committing to it. When you have a date, you have urgency.

2️⃣ Choose the right resources
Don’t overwhelm yourself. Pick 1–2 structured learning sources, understand the PMP exam content outline, and make sure you fulfill all eligibility requirements early.

My PMP study schedule that actually worked 📚🔥
(and helped me pass on the first try)

I didn’t rely on luck.
I didn’t “wing it.”

How to read PMP questions like a project leader (not a student)

Most people fail the PMP not because they don’t study enough -
but because they read questions like students… not like leaders.

Here’s how to decode PMP scenario questions the way PMI expects you to 👇
1️⃣ Identify the project environment
Before you even read the answers, ask:
• Is this Predictive, Agile, or Hybrid?
• Is the team empowered or command-and-control?
• Are changes expected or tightly controlled?

Your answer MUST match the delivery approach.

2️⃣ Eliminate “bad leader” answers
Remove any option that:
❌ Blames a person instead of fixing the system
❌ Skips communication with stakeholders
❌ Jumps straight to punishment or escalation
❌ Ignores formal process
❌ Trades short-term speed for long-term value
If it sounds like bad leadership in real life - it’s bad on the exam too.

3️⃣ Favor answers that show judgment
The best answers usually:
✅ Investigate root cause
✅ Involve stakeholders early
✅ Assess risk and impact
✅ Protect business value
✅ Prevent recurrence (not just fix symptoms)
You’re not a firefighter. You’re a strategist.

4️⃣ Ask yourself ONE question
“Would this action build trust, stability, and value over time?”
If not - it’s probably not the PMP answer.

The PMP exam isn’t about memorization.
It’s about thinking like a project leader.

Most people study forever because there’s no deadline.
Pick your date → reverse-engineer your plan.

2️⃣ Choose the right resources
The ones that help you understand how PMI thinks.
This alone can make or break your score.

3️⃣ Practice mindset > memorization
The PMP isn’t about remembering processes.
It’s about choosing the best decision a PM would make in real-life scenarios.
Once you learn to think like PMI → everything clicks.

4️⃣ Build a supportive environment
Community, accountability, focus.

5️⃣ Learn to manage exam pressure
180 questions. 3 domains. 2 breaks.
Your ability to manage stress is part of the test.

🚩 10 “Red Flag” PMP exam options I automatically ignore

One of the fastest ways to improve your PMP score
is not by learning more —
but by learning what to eliminate.

When I read exam questions, I run a mental blacklist first.

Here are the 10 answer types I almost always ignore:
1. “Escalate immediately to the sponsor / leadership”
 If nothing’s been analyzed yet — this is usually too early.
2. “Replace / remove the team member”
PMP favors coaching, support, and enabling — not punishment.
3. “Implement the solution right away”
No root cause? No decision.
4. “Ignore the concern and proceed with the plan”
Stakeholders are not background noise.
5. “Skip stakeholder communication”
If no one is informed, it’s almost never correct.
6. “Fast-track / crash without analysis”
Changing schedule without impact analysis = red flag.
7. “Bypass change control / governance”
If scope, cost, or schedule is affected — formal process matters.
8. “Choose the most extreme option”
PMP rewards balanced, realistic thinking — not heroics.
9. “Blame the team or a person”
The exam tests leadership, not fault-finding.
10. “Do nothing”
Inaction is rarely management.

✅ What correct PMP answers usually do instead:
• Assess before acting
• Involve stakeholders
• Analyze root causes
• Protect value delivery
• Support the team
• Follow process
• Think long-term, not emotionally

If I had to give only ONE tip on how to pass the PMP exam…

It would be this:

Understand — don’t memorize.

PMP isn’t a memory test.
It’s a thinking test.

If you truly understand why the correct answer is correct
(and why the wrong ones are wrong),

you’ll start recognizing patterns, not paragraphs.

Because real Project Managers don’t walk around quoting definitions.

💫 They make decisions.
💫 They analyze situations.
💫 They solve problems.

So when you study, don’t get stuck on flashcards and formulas.

Go deeper.
Ask yourself:

 ✨ “Why would a PM do this?”
 ✨ “What is the real goal here?”
 ✨ “What principle is being tested?”

Understanding is what turns knowledge into confidence - and confidence into a passing score.

Most people think passing PMP is about memorizing processes.
But in reality - no.

It’s really about how you think.

Here are the mindset shifts that changed everything for me:

1️⃣ Think like a leader, not a memorizer
 PMP isn’t about recalling steps.
 It’s about making decisions that protect value, people, and outcomes.

2️⃣ Pause before reacting
Your first instinct is often wrong.
Ask: What’s the real problem here?

3️⃣ Prioritize, don’t just solve
You’re not picking solutions - you’re picking the best next move.

4️⃣ Ignore extreme options
“Fire the team. Cancel the project. Escalate immediately.”
Too emotional. Think collaborative, preventive, value-driven.

5️⃣ Assess → Analyze → Act
Calm, structured thinking beats knee-jerk reactions every time.

6️⃣ Lead as a servant, not a hero
Remove blockers, empower your team, protect stakeholders, enable success.

7️⃣ Judgment > Memory
This exam tests your decision-making, not your flashcard skills.

What I’d tell my past self before starting PMP prep

If I could go back to the first week of studying for PMP, I wouldn’t hand myself a book.

I’d hand myself a mindset.

Because PMP is not a memory test.
It’s a leadership test disguised as an exam.

The shift that changed everything for me was this:
Stop memorizing “what PMI says” and start understanding how a strong project manager thinks under pressure.

If I had to write myself a note from the future, it would look like this:

💜 Rules I wish I had from Day 1:
 • Assess before you act. Urgency without analysis is not leadership.
 • Collaborate before you escalate. Teams > hero behavior.
 • Avoid extremes. Firing people or rewriting the plan is rarely the first move.
 • Think value, not activity. Being busy ≠ being effective.
 • Risk is not a problem to fear. It’s a signal to manage early.

Once I stopped treating PMP like an academic exam…
and started treating it like leadership training…

Everything became clearer.
The questions.
The answer patterns.
Even my confidence.

How do you know you’re ready to start PMP prep?

Starting PMP prep can feel intimidating - it’s a big investment of time and energy.

1. You have enough real-world project experience.
PMP isn’t just theory - it tests how you think and act as a project leader.
