We’re only 6 weeks into 2026 and I’ve already achieved one of my biggest goals. 🤯

I landed my first travel brand deal! 

Outside my 9 to 5 I am a lifestyle content creator which not only helps with my day job working at Melbourne Social Co but has been a really great way to increase my confidence within my personal brand. 

Although I’m not labelled as a travel creator, I love sharing my authentic experiences with my audience and this was a great way to challenge my creativity and put my experience running photoshoots to good use. 

My goal for the brand partnership:
💡Think about what my audience want to see
💡Create shareable content with good cut through  
💡Capture premium but relatable content 
💡Build out the beginnings of my travel portfolio for opportunities

Today I was reminded why I do what I do. 🔥

At the end of last year, I lost my love for LinkedIn and pretty much stopped posting altogether. Today, I was in a room surrounded by so many people that I actually met through personal branding and my LinkedIn. It was surreal! 

Being in the room reminded me of my love and passion for LinkedIn, as well as the importance of connection. It showed me you can meet some incredible people just through a personal brand. It reminded me the power your personal brand can have, and that showing up and putting in effort can mean so much more than just your job title.

And this is your reminder, that there's a reason you're building your personal brand, there's a reason to show up. Don't let the self doubt take over.

This is a metric you need to be keeping an eye on.👀

When you start creating content, most people think that the most important metric is reach, engagement or the number of connection requests. But the metric you need to really be keeping an eye on his profile views. 

Why? 

These are people who are actively going out of the way to learn more about you and your business. These people could become clients are mental even lead due to your next career move.🚀

Don’t get me wrong it’s still important to track reach and engagement, but if you’ve been neglecting profile views you’re seriously missing out.

What's the best performing format on LinkedIn? 👀

Well you're not going to like my answer. 

The format that gets the most engagement and most reach is going to be a format that not only can you execute week after week, but also a format that your audience becomes familiar with.

💡If you love talking to audiences - video might be for you 
💡If you're a fantastic storyteller - try long form 
💡If you're straight to the point - stick with short form

The real secret to getting great reach is consistency and clarity in your content and your personal brand.

How long should you spend writing a piece of content? 🤔

Most of my posts I write and edit under 5 minutes. No that's not a typo. 

I've never been great at pre-scheduling content, even though this is my number one piece of advice if you're trying to build a powerful personal brand. I write my best content in the moment. 

And I know a post won't be worth sharing if I cannot create it in under 5 minutes. But that doesn't work for everyone. 

💡Some will spend an hour editing the perfect video.
💡Others will spend 10 minutes writing a text post. 

There's no right or wrong answer. 

At the end of the day, if your post is giving value to your target audience, then you know you've got a good post, whether it takes you 5 minutes or an hour.

This afternoon I ran a virtual personal branding 101 session! This is one of my favourite training sessions to run - and honestly I forgot how much I love being able to share my experience with others so they can upskill and take charge of their own personal brand!

Sometimes getting started is the easiest part of building personal brand. 🤪

I started my personal branding journey over five years ago and in the last 6 to 12 months I’ve struggled with consistency and finding a passion and purpose with my content. 

The bottom line is I know I love LinkedIn. I love personal branding. And I love being able to help inspire others and teach them ropes so they can capitalise on the power of a personal brand. 🔥

The biggest battle any creative will face is burnout and the marathon of content creation. 

I’ve been fighting this battle for months and the biggest thing that got me out of a rut was finding a renewed “why”.

So remember that creativity comes in ebbs and flows. Sometimes you can have a little fun with a personal rebrand 👀

This is one of the most powerful skills you need in building a personal brand.👀 

It’s knowing how to sell yourself. 

Part of the power of creating a personal brand is that it can walk into a room before you enter it yourself. But when you finally enter the room physically, you need to be able to match the powerful personal brand you’ve curated online.

Learning how to quiet the self-doubt and captivate a room with your confidence and authenticity can take time to perfect. I found that creating content on social media whether for my 9 to 5 or as a freelance content creator, has been the biggest way to improve my confidence. I’ve learned how to hold the attention of my audience no matter how big or how small.

Decisions made under pressure can shape outcomes for decades.

I learned this early at sea. When conditions deteriorate, information is incomplete, and time is limited, leadership, judgement, and trust matter far more than rank, procedures, or paperwork. Manuals support decisions — but people make them. I have seen firsthand how the quality of judgement in a single moment can determine safety, resilience, and long-term consequences.

That experience continues to guide my work today.

I work with leaders and organisations operating in safety-critical and high-risk environments to strengthen decision-making, leadership judgement, and governance in ways that reflect how work is actually done, not just how it is written.

My work focuses on:
✅ Improving decision-making when consequences are high
✅ Developing leadership judgement across all levels
✅ Aligning governance with real operational risk

I support this through:
✅ Strategic advisory for boards and senior leaders
✅ Independent audits, assurance, and assessments
✅ Navigational audits and risk-based operational reviews

Alongside advisory and assurance work, I serve as an Expert Reviewer and Writing Team Member for the UN World Ocean Assessment (WOA III), a United Nations process reporting to the UN General Assembly. My contribution brings practitioner perspective to ensure that safety, governance, and human factors are considered alongside scientific analysis.

I also serve in professional governance and oversight roles, including as a Maritime Advisory Board member of CHIRP UK and a Council Member of The Nautical Institute UK, contributing independent judgement and confidential safety insight to support professional learning and standards.

My background spans command and decision-making at sea, business and operational leadership ashore, and independent advisory, audit, and assurance roles across the Asia-Pacific region. I work as an independent HSEQ, ISM, ISPS, and MLC auditor, and Navigation Assessor, often where regulatory intent meets operational reality.
