Some leaders mistake urgency for progress.

The day fills with problems that need immediate attention. Something breaks. Someone needs a decision. A fire pops up that cannot wait. The leader stays busy. The system stays alive but nothing actually moves forward.

The business stays in maintenance mode.

I see this loop when leaders become the default router for every issue. The work feels important because it is urgent, and the constant adrenaline feels productive.But the business keeps returning to the same baseline. 

The pipeline does not advance. The structure does not strengthen. The same fires come back.

The misread is simple. Urgency feels like work that matters. It keeps the system running. It does not build the next version of it.

This loop is expensive. Time burns on returning things to normal instead of moving them ahead. Delegation breaks because everything flows back to one person. 

The leader stays busy while the business stays in place.

When this loop gets cut, the pace changes without adding effort. Fires stop defining the day. Decisions move before they become urgent. The leader steps out of reaction and back into direction.

If your weeks are full but the business keeps resetting instead of advancing, it is usually this loop running underneath everything.

I Fix Decision Loops That Slow Execution | Structural Fixes, Not Motivation Work

One of the hardest moments for experienced professionals is not failure. It’s the moment when the system that used to close decisions disappears.

For years, the environment handled a lot of invisible work. A promotion path signaled which projects mattered. A manager filtered which requests deserved attention. Quarterly reviews closed out what wasn't working. When that structure is removed, everything reopens at once.

What to pursue, how much risk to take, which options deserve energy, what is worth the cost now.

This moment is often misread as an identity issue or a search for meaning. It isn’t. It’s a decision-closure problem.

Too many viable paths stay open at the same time. There is no clear mechanism to shut one without second-guessing the others. Energy spreads across parallel options that should have been sequenced. 

Capable people start circling, not because they lack discipline or skill, but because the rules that used to end decisions are gone.

Until new closure rules are established, progress feels unreliable. Nothing is wrong with the person. The system that once decided for them is simply no longer there. 

Rebuilding decision closure comes first. Direction follows.

As a BDR, my responsibility is to schedule qualified meetings for our account executives. I made an average of 60-80 cold calls a day, prospected, and identified decision makers at financial firms and sent follow up emails.

On top of my personal goals, I also mentored and trained new BDRs throughout '22-'23. I had bi weekly 1:1 meetings with the newer BDRs during their ramp months, where I teach them:

1) How to prospect
2) How to use Hubspot
3) How to handle objections
4) How to deal with emotions
5) Identify any improvement areas

I delivered masterful presentations for homeowners regarding their home remodeling needs at their homes. Some of the big things with this role is I must be able to warm up with each homeowner to establish trust. Every appointment is different in terms of how much time the homeowner is giving me so I have to be able to manage my time during my presentations. I ask for the sale the first visit, and I must be able to handle objections appropriately without damaging the relationship with I and the homeowners.

Responsibilities:
My job as a Customer Development Representative was to generate leads for our Remodeling Consultants. I would generate leads by going door-to-door or standing in Sam's Clubs and cold approaching around 50-100 Sam's Club members/day. In order to create an estimate, I would ask their home address, phone number and best date and time for our Remodeling consultant to come over to give our estimate. Our quota was to average 6 estimates every two weeks (156 estimates/year). in 2018 I averaged 8.7 estimates  every two weeks for a total of 228 on the year (2nd out of 30) which was 146% of quota.

I sold hand fulls of grass at 7 years old.

My sister celebrated her 1st birthday at a park in a field house. I was 7 years old. I walked out of the field house to play in the playground, I realized, "there is a lot of grass on the ground, and there are a lot of people (my relatives) in the field house!" I grabbed hand fulls of grass, went up to my relatives, and asked if they wanted to buy a handful for $1. Some said yes, some said no. Somehow the rejection didn't phase me and I knew if I kept trying, I was confident I would get more people to bite. That day, I made exactly $8. Yes, my parents were pissed.
