Google Suspended Our Ads Account — After 15+ Years and $15,000,000 in Spend. 

That’s pretty much what Google just did.

After 15+ years as an advertiser and over $15 million USD spent across their platforms… our account was suspended for “suspicious payment activity.”

An account their own team helped set up, configure, bill, structure, and manage.

An account where they onboarded us, they verified billing, they helped upload payment methods.

An account that has never had a dispute, a chargeback, a failed payment, nothing.

And yet here we are: flagged by some over-zealous algorithm like we’re running a shady dropshipping operation 

What exactly was suspicious?

Good question. Here’s what we gave them, in full good faith:

Corporate credit card
Photo ID
Business registration
Billing history
Screenshots
Invoices

We practically sent them everything but a DNA sample.

And still—still—we’re told:

“Your account is suspended due to suspicious payment activity.”

Very helpful. Super specific. Makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside.

What stings the most isn’t the suspension. It’s the indifference.
You’d think after a decade and eight figures in ad spend, there would be a human

But no. You’re funneled into the same support queue as someone who just created an account yesterday.

Loyalty?
History?

A track record of millions spent without a hiccup?
Apparently none of that makes a difference. After all these years, I’m just another ticket in a sea

And timing? 

Google chose to suspend us 12 days before Black Friday.

Twelve.

This is like locking the doors on a supermarket on Christmas Eve and then telling customers:
“Sorry, our algorithm didn’t like your face.”

It’s maddening.

It’s disrespectful.

And frankly, it’s not the Google we used to know.

Who did Google become?

Google used to be a partner.

Now it feels like a landlord with a bad attitude and a locked door.
Once upon a time, you could talk to someone.
Now, you talk to a form.

Once upon a time, account managers had authority.
 Now they have scripts.

Once upon a time, loyalty meant something.
 Now, loyalty gets you an automated suspension at 2:17 AM.

It makes you wonder:
How does a company built by obsessing over users end up treating its customers like disposable inputs for its machine?

Google, if you're listening: this is not how you treat partners.
We’re not asking for special treatment.
We’re not asking for favors.
We’re simply asking for what every advertiser deserves:
A real explanation.
A real human looking at the issue.
A real path to resolution.

And the dignity of not being treated like a fraudster after 15 years of partnership.
If your algorithm can’t distinguish between a $15 million longtime partner and an actual suspicious account, then maybe the algorithm isn’t ready to make suspension decisions.

If it can happen to us after 15 years…
It can happen to anyone.

Yesterday I was reminded that community > content.

I’d spent weeks preparing for my live session: “How to Build a 7-Figure AI Consulting Business.” Hundreds of people joined the Zoom room. Cameras on, notebooks ready.

A few minutes in… my world went dark.

I’m in Bali. A fibre-optic cable got cut. Power gone. Internet gone. One moment I’m sharing my screen… the next, I’m staring at a dead modem and a spinning load icon.

As a host, it’s pretty much your worst nightmare.

Especially when hundreds of people are sitting there waiting.

Here’s the part I didn’t expect.

Instead of dropping off, people leaned in.

For almost 40 minutes, while my team scrambled behind the scenes, the chat lit up. My friend and colleague Akshay jumped in as co-host, held the space, and started inviting everyone to connect. 

Then people started sharing where they were from. Posting LinkedIn profiles. Swapping stories about why they’re stepping into AI consulting in the first place.

You’re being lied to about AI Agents…and it’s setting you up to fail.

You’ve seen the promises about “autonomous agents” replacing whole teams.

Maybe you even bought a plug-and-play template promising instant wins.

But here’s the truth: the results are mixed.

Klarna said an AI assistant could do ~700 agents’ work—then brought people back to patch quality gaps.

Amazon spent three years on an AI recruiting engine, then scrapped it when it started treating women unequally.

And MIT says roughly 95% of AI pilots don’t deliver measurable returns.

Not because AI “doesn’t work,” but because teams start with tools, not outcomes, so nothing moves.

So let’s fix that by getting clear on one thing first: the difference between an AI agent and simple automation.

🤖 AI agent
An AI agent is a goal-seeking collaborator. It can plan, decide, and take next steps with guidance. And it’s at its best when work is fuzzy or judgment-heavy, and when you give it guardrails.

🔌 Automation
Automation is a rules-based workflow. It runs predefined steps the same way every time, so you get repeatability, speed, and clean metrics. Think Zapier/Make.com.

And here’s why that matters: automation handles fixed, repeatable steps; agents make context-dependent calls. Mix that up and you over-automate judgment or send an agent to do a rule’s job.

That’s why you should always start with outcome-first: set the KPI, map the steps, and mark where judgment happens. Because once you do, the calls get clear. Automate the parts that repeat. Use an agent where a human decision is needed.

For example:

If you’re building a simple support flow to cut time-to-answer from 15 to 3 minutes, you’d keep the workflow automated and place one agent at the single decision step (e.g., a chatbot on your docs to answer or triage).

If you’re building a more complex content engine where judgment shows up at several points, you’d automate the handoffs and place a few small agents at those judgment steps to coordinate, so review cycles shorten and more drafts ship on time.

Now, knowing all of this is useful, but actually executing it? That's a different story. The slide shows the math. But the reality? It's messier.

Standing on stage at /function1 in Dubai yesterday, I shared our "Multiplying Productivity" framework.

10% productivity gain = $1.65M saved. Apply an 8x multiple. Year 1 business value: $13.2M.

The numbers look clean. Almost too clean.

Here's what the slide doesn't show:

==> The teams who were skeptical at first. 
==> The "this won't work for us" conversations. 
==> The moment someone builds their first no-code AI agent and their face lights up because they just automated something that used to take hours.

AI adoption isn't a technology problem. It's 90% mindset.

We've learned that while you do need to start with a clear vision. 

You also need to start with the basics:

==> Understand where the challenges are that AI can add real value impact
==> Teach people to use AI tools in their actual workflow
==> Help them build simple agents that solve real problems
==> Build confidence through quick wins

Then something shifts. 

Teams stop asking "What AI Tool to I need?" and start asking "How can we increase value impact through applying AI?"

That's when amplified intelligence happens. Humans bring clarity and judgment. AI brings scale and speed.

The math works. 

But only after the humans believe it can.

There’s a lot to learn from Deloitte’s $300K AI mistake. 

Even the Big Four can mess up big, and here’s why:

Late last year, the Australian government commissioned Deloitte to conduct a welfare compliance report.

It took 7 months and was valued at nearly half a million AUD.

And Deloitte delivered a great report. 237 pages were approved and published in July. Everyone was happy.

Until they weren’t.

You see, Dr. Chris Rudge of Sydney University found several faults in the report, from fabricated sources to a non-existent book reference, and even a fake quote from a federal judge.

Altogether, over a dozen false references were uncovered.

And the best part? The report was re-published on October 3rd with corrections. Three months later 🫣

So… how does one of the world’s most successful firms submit a report with so many errors?

The answer, as you may have guessed, is that human hands did not write the report alone. AI helped.

Which begs the question: How much can you trust AI to do your work? 

Here’s the truth: AI isn’t perfect. It hallucinates, fabricating ideas, facts, and evidence.

So as responsible AI users, it's our job to review outputs and uncover mistakes. It’s our job to be the ‘human in the loop’ (HITL).

That’s what Deloitte and so many other businesses don’t understand yet. They view AI as a perfect copilot to be used in every project, with or without the right systems.

When that shouldn’t be the case.

How do I know? For years, I’ve helped companies big and small build the right systems for ethical, accurate AI implementation, and here’s what I’ve learned:

Using AI is the future of work. When done right, it can empower teams, accelerate processes, and multiply revenue.

But AI is not a 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 for the way we work. Because when it’s used wrongly, it kills trust, reduces employee engagement, and costs companies big time (e.g. Deloitte).

The people that have caught onto this difference are the ones cashing in on AI. 

And these aren’t engineers or scientists. They’re consultants, strategists, and coaches who can cut through the noise and create real results, not total messes.

“The riskiest thing we can do is just maintain the status quo.”

I recently came across this line from Bob Iger, Disney’s former CEO, and it stopped me in my tracks.

The Riskiest thing we can do

A 19-year-old teaching assistant in Perth once watched her students struggle with Photoshop and thought: “This shouldn’t be this hard.”

That’s how Julie Sweet, the CEO of Accenture, opened her talk at Columbia before explaining what she meant. 

And the room kind of half-laughed – the nervous kind of laugh you give when you’re not sure if something’s a joke.

So what did Julie actually mean?

Well… Julie explained that if you talk to any CEO today, they’ll tell you they still need consulting.

But what they need now isn’t consulting in the old “slides and strategy deck” sense.

It’s a different kind of consulting.

You see, Julie had just spoken to a CEO who recently hired a big strategy firm for a 12-week sprint.

And at the end of those 12 weeks, all his team got was a big beautiful deck with one core message:

“Go faster.”

There was no clear plan.

No real reinvention.

No roadmap they could actually execute on Monday morning.

Which is in complete contrast to how she and her teams approach consulting at Accenture.

Here’s what I mean:

When Julie opened a three-hour workshop for the same CEO, she started it by saying:

“Everything we’re going to share is real reinvention.
Everything we show you, we’ve actually done.”

And she meant every word of that.

Her team didn’t just talk about ideas.

They walked the CEO through real impact they’d delivered across companies.

Impact that led the CEO to say:

“Now I get your business model.
At the end of eight weeks, you’ll give me a plan.”

And that line has been stuck in my head ever since.
