Many search for the next big move.
Markets are volatile. Entire industries shift.
The leverage is closer than you think.

I have sat with executives who routinely explore
what to pursue next.
New role. Bigger title. Different industry.

The breakthrough rarely came from chasing harder.
It came from strengthening the operator.

Here is what I have observed over time.

1️⃣ The people who get ahead build capacity before
 visibility.
• They deepen skills while others polish profiles.
• When complexity increases, their preparation shows.
• They do not scramble. They execute.

• They think through scenarios before stakes rise.

• Confidence follows preparation, not ego.

 continuously.
• After setbacks, they review decisions instead
of assigning blame.
• They ask for feedback without defensiveness.
• Over time, this habit builds credibility.
  
If you are unsure what to pursue next,
invest in the person making the choice.

When you organize the skills you have already earned,
someone further back benefits from what you now
execute naturally.

Whether true or not, words shared the right way
can change someone’s mind.
That’s influence.

Think about a sentence that stayed with you
longer than it should have.

Maybe it was a teacher saying,
“You’re capable of more than this.”

Maybe it was a manager saying,
“I’m not sure you’re cut out for that.”

Neither required a long speech.
Both could shift how you saw yourself.

That’s the point.

We talk about influence like it’s strategy, branding,
or persuasion.
Most of the time, it’s simpler than that.

It’s how you describe someone to themselves.

You can define people by their current situation.
Or you can define them by what
they are building toward.

You can correct someone
in a way that protects their effort.

Or in a way that makes them shrink.

Same facts.
Different impact.

If you are in a position where people listen,
your words travel further than you think.

They echo in decisions you will never see.
They shape risks people decide to take, or avoid.

This is not about being careful to the point of silence.

It’s about being focused with intent.

Before your next piece of feedback.
Before your next reaction in a tense moment.
Before your next comment about someone’s ability.

Ask yourself:

Am I describing who they are today,
or who they can become?

The real question is how you're using your words.
To build or to limit.

High performers are taught to endure.
But being always on
quietly erodes decision quality.

Almost everything
will work again
if you unplug it.

The difference between momentum and frustration
is rarely talent.
It is how you honor the promises you make to yourself.

Pressure does not create progress.
It reveals what you practiced before it showed up.

Big declarations feel productive on a Monday.
They also fade fast when friction shows up.

What holds is quieter and more demanding.
It is keeping commitments when no one is cheering.

Six months from now will not negotiate.

That’s not a personality trait
That’s a red flag

Dogs don’t hold grudges
They don’t fake laugh
They don’t schedule a “quick catch-up” that could’ve been a bark

They wake up
Commit to the vibe
And go full send

Eat the thing
Chase the thing
Love the human like they’ve just returned from war after taking the trash out

Meanwhile we’re out here

I can tell when someone's performing. It's in the eyes. The over-explanation

The need to be liked
Someone who isn't doing that feels dangerous to them

It sounds arrogant to say

It isn't arrogance
It's freedom

I only listen to people who have built what I want. There aren't many

They've failed publicly
They've rebuilt
They don't flinch

And the ones who have?
They're usually the most comfortable in their own skin too

That's the prerequisite

What I do have a problem with is people pasting its first draft into their actual Linkedin profile and calling it a day

Because if your bio still says

[insert quantifiable results]
[your email here]
[how can I help drive your success]

You didn't build a personal brand

You uploaded a template with the instructions still attached

That's not AI-powered
That's brain-optional behaviour

I'm not even asking you to be clever
Or funny
Or original

I'm asking you to do the bare minimum

Read what you're about to publish
Replace the brackets

Add one human thought

Because if the first thing a potential client sees is that you couldn't even finish filling in a robot's homework?

Why the fuçk would they trust you with their money?

Using ChatGPT to think things through? Fine

Using it to soundboard ideas? 
Great

Using it to vomit out a personality you never bothered to develop? 
Absolutely not

This is your personal profile
Not a Mad Libs for people afraid of thinking

If your bio still has brackets in it, that's not "busy founder energy"

That's just lazy

That was Adina Samuels situation

Before we worked together, she couldn't see a realistic way to turn what she did into a business

Entrepreneurship felt risky

I travel a lot
I'm a trusted dog sitter

Which means I've lived with a lot of dogs that people warn you about first

Different breeds
Different reputations
Very different realities

Here's what I've learned

The dogs people warn you about most are usually the ones who just don't perform on command

Same goes for Linkedin influencers

Today's breed: Benjamin D. 

The guy people call "too aggressive" or "too direct"

If Benjamin were a dog, he'd be a Border Terrier

Here's why

• Purpose-built for one job: go straight at the problem
• Doesn't care if you like it, only if it works
• Zero interest in tricks, trends, or performing for strangers• Calm when things get uncomfortable
• Surprisingly funny once you stop expecting it to behave
• Loyal to results, not reputation

Border Terriers aren't lap dogs

They're working dogs

Bred to go underground, flush things out, and finish the job

No wonder this one spends his time dragging cold calls into the light

And they want it personalised

That’s the line Lois Letchford dropped on my podcast

And it explains so much of what’s broken in expert-led work

Lois isn’t guessing
She’s not “trying something new”
She’s not watching a YouTube tutorial at 1.5x speed
She’s bringing 30 years of experience working with children

Designing programmes around actual humans
Not templates

And yet the question still comes up:

“Would you do it for $20 an hour?”

Sure
Someone will
They might help
They might not

That’s the part people skip

You’re not paying for time
You’re paying for fewer mistakes
Less trial and error

And not having to roll the dice on something that actually matters

This episode is about what expertise really costs

And why racing to the bottom is the most expensive strategy there is

I was jumping between 3 different offers wondering why none were landing

Consistency

Reaching out every single day
With that offer ONLY

Not when I felt like it

Not when the algorithm rewarded me

Every. Single. Day.

That's it

No secret hack

Just two things most people know but don't do

A German bakery's machinery broke down


They were losing hundreds of thousands every hour

Called in an expert engineer

He walked in
Looked at the machine
Asked for a sledgehammer
Hit it once

Machine started working

Invoice: $10,000

The owner lost his mind

"$10,000 for hitting it with a hammer?!"

So the engineer itemized it:
• $1,000 — For the visit and physical work
• $9,000 — For knowing exactly where to hit

Here's what most solopreneurs get wrong:

You're not selling hours
You're selling years

Years of learning
Years of failing
Years of figuring out where to hit

The bakery owner didn't want the engineer to take 10 hours just to justify the bill

Every hour wasted cost him more money

Speed is the feature

Your expertise isn't expensive
It's efficient

Stop apologizing for solving problems fast
Start charging for the decades it took to make it look easy
