Rohan Kamath was born somewhere and then he grew up (or so they say). Along the way, he attended a fancy university where he learned about important things like student loans and insurance. He then worked for a couple of famous people named Jeff and Satya. He has been birding since he was 6 years old, but his favorite bird is still a mean Tandoori Chicken.

When he’s not writing about himself in the third person, Rohan spends most of his time outdoors hiking and birding in the Pacific Northwest with his wife Pk and his puppy Albus. Rumor has it that he builds Products at Stripe although he not-so-secretly wishes he was a chef so that he could forever feed the fat kid inside him who refuses to grow up.

He is extremely passionate about learning new things and obsessively and consistently reads books daily. He also writes on Quora where his work has been read a few times, and on LinkedIn, where people think he's bonkers. He thinks he’s sarcastic and hilarious. However, most people find him obnoxious and annoying.

To assist define the future of the payments industry environment, the Emerging Payments Association (EPA) brings together businesses from throughout the emerging payments spectrum. It's a dynamic network of payments experts whose objectives are to develop and broaden the payments sector for the good of all stakeholders.

As an EPAA Ambassador, I provide the organisation with subject matter expertise so that it may better serve its membership base across APAC and benefit from their knowledge of the payments sector.

I cooperate with the core EPAA team to: - 
- Support EPAA's vision to become a regional hub for payments innovation by organising, hosting, and participating in events with participants from across the world 
- Assist 130 members throughout the payments value chain, such as payment schemes, banks and issuers, merchant acquirers, PSPs, retailers, and more, in speaking with an unified voice.

India now accounts for 50 percent of all real-time transactions on the planet.

Two hundred and fifty billion payments in a single year.
More than the US, UK, Brazil, China, Indonesia, Nigeria, South Korea and Thailand combined.
Yes, combined.

Look at the map and a story appears.

Not about volume.
About systems.
India didn’t grow because of luck.
India grew because it built rails that matched its population, its behaviour and its ambition.
UPI became the operating system for money.

Compare this with the rest of the world:

United States: 6 to 8 billion transactions
Japan: 3 to 5 billion
UK: 4 to 5 billion
Indonesia: 3 to 5 billion
South Korea: 12 to 15 billion
Brazil: 75 to 85 billion
Thailand: 25 to 30 billion
Nigeria: 10 to 12 billion
China: Alipay volumes still massive, but no longer the centre of the global conversation
And then there is India at 250 billion.

This isn’t just scale.
This is infrastructure maturity.
This is behavioural change at population level.
This is the clearest proof that when a country builds inclusive rails, inclusion follows.
Not through incentives.
Through design.

UPI did for payments what highways did for economies.
It made movement seamless.

PIX in Brazil shows the same trajectory.
PromptPay in Thailand.
Mobile money in Nigeria.
Wallet ecosystems in Indonesia.

And yet, one thing stands out:
India has shown what happens when public infrastructure meets private innovation at the right moment.

The world has entered the “real-time decade.”
But one country is writing the playbook the rest are trying to learn from.

The question now is simple.
Which nation builds the next UPI-scale leap?
And which ones wait too long and fall behind?

De-Cember, De-clutter, De-tach & De-lete
anything that De-values you life.
Don’t bring it into 2026.
