My daughter got a 70 on her math test yesterday.

She came home and said: "Daddy I hate math. Why do I need to get good grades? I'll never use math in my life!"

I tried justifying all the cases where math would come in handy and she kept responding: "My husband will do that!" (Which I found hilarious because she could have just said 'I'll use a calculator').

But then I thought back to when I was in school. I was awful at math. Until college I struggled, until something just clicked and I started doing very well in calculus, probability, linear algebra, etc.

I started applying this to my recent addition to a local basketball league where I was one of the last picks in the league. That's a pretty tough pill to swallow. But I don't HATE ball because I'm not great, if anything, I play more now.

I play for at least 15-30 minutes a day after work. Recognizing my weaknesses has made me fiercely competitive with myself. I need to beat this.

I don't recall if I hated math when I was younger (now I love it), but maybe it's a personal thing that some people love what they struggle at and other hate it? Or is it a learning experience where you learn to invite challenge?

I'm not sure.

True Story: A few years ago I helped a dental assistant land a role at Bank of America.

She went from ~$60K - $120K (base).

My first instinct when she reached out to me (after reading her resume) was "this is impossible". She will never land a financial analyst role (her target).

But after digging deeper I realized she didn't just clean dental tools and ask people to "say ahhhh".

👉 She dealt with insurance companies. 
👉 Called clients to collect their balances. 
👉 Managed the client list and reminded them about upcoming appointments.
👉 She managed all of this in Excel!

We rebuilt her resume from scratch.

I had her take an online "Excel for Finance Professionals" course.

4 months from start to finish.

Impossible? Yes, in your current state. But with fierce desire, you should be able to muster up the drive to plan and do the impossible.

JFK would have been a nightmare. La Guardia...same.

Instead we're taking off from ISP.

Every heard of it? Neither have I until about 3 days ago.

Cheaper flights. Better times. NO LINES. Polite staff.

I had a prepackaged meal. TSA looked it over, smiled, and said "enjoy".

At JFK? The security dogs would have been set on me to sniff me up for contraband. And then they would have thrown the food away.

Got me thinking...this is why I love Dragin.

Taking my kids skiing today.

It amazes me how it's 2026 and the process for registering is so horrible. 

You pay for your ski tickets at the resort. 

Then, when you arrive at the mountains,  you pay for your rentals at guest services.

Then, you get fitted and charged for last minute add-ons in yet another building. 

Couldn't you just pay for the slopes, rentals,  and get fitted at one counter? Sure. But where's the fun in that when you can wait on three 30 minutes lines?

I just don't understand some companies.

Should a coach publicly share their "secret sauce"?

Well, tbh most don't have any, they just regurgitate what they have heard from other people and/or AI.

But assuming they have real unique ideas should they share it publicly?

This was the hardest thing for me about publishing this book.

It's loaded with many interesting ideas around choosing an email address, how to set up your LinkedIn page, how to change your resume layout depending on how strong your work experience is, etc.

And now, it's all out there in the open.

AI will learn from it.

Other coaches will write resume books using my ideas.
