Sourdough Saturdays: The Perfect Food for Thought

Like many things in my life, I jumped headfirst into making my own sourdough captivated by the romance of it, the simplicity of it, the idea of it. What I didn’t see was the reality waiting behind the scenes.

From the outside, baking bread feels charming, almost effortless. But the truth? It’s patience. It’s discipline. It’s failure. It’s sticky counters, missed steps, and starters that refuse to cooperate. It’s nurturing something daily while juggling a life that doesn’t slow down. It’s believing you’ve done everything right… only to realize you never even turned on the oven.

And that’s when it hit me.

This was never really about sourdough.

It’s about entrepreneurship. It’s about the unseen weight of building something from nothing. The Daily Drip

Remember my electrician friend I posted about? 

In addition to headshots, we wanted to do something super cool for the homepage of his website.

Couldn’t be happier with how this turned out! Homepage is gonna be ELECTRIC ⚡️ 😁

I RARELY tell inquirers about the technical aspects of what I do. 

Instead, I focus on the outcomes.

If they want to learn more about what I do? Absolutely, happy to share.

But the reality is that most people aren't thinking about the intricacies of the lighting, the equipment I use, etc. What they really want to know is this:

"Can you help me look like ME in front of the camera?"

When done right, there's nothing more powerful for your visual brand, whether you're a speaker, a founder, or an executive (or all of the above!).

I got fired.

And it was the best thing that ever happened to me (professionally). 

When I was in college, I spent my summers working for a drywalling company. Backbreaking work, long hours, steep learning curve. But I enjoyed it. Huge sense of satisfaction when a job was completed and it's a great skill to have under my belt (I can fix a hole in a wall like it's nobody's business).

But why did I get fired?

The year between my degrees, I worked at the drywalling company throughout the year.....until I got let go. Why? Because I wasn't showing initiative. I had learned all the skills I needed to technically do the work. And I was doing it well. But I wasn't showing the kind of initiative my boss needed me to show. Despite some previous instruction, I had failed to take it to heart and do what needed to be done.

And that's when I heard the words "I need to let you go."

It was at that moment that I learned one of the best professional lessons I ever could have, one that has stayed with me to this day. It's a lesson that has enabled me to take initiative again and again to start and grow a business, write a book, launch a coaching program, and serve my clients to the best of my abilities.

If I ever get to see that old boss again, I'm going to shake his hand and tell him he taught me one of the most valuable lessons I've ever learned.

You know what I learned EARLY in my business?

Nothing beats having someone show you the way.

Last Saturday, I had a few of the members of my Accelerate Coaching Group who could make it fly in from around the country (and a few locals!) to join me in my studio for some in-person learning. While we frequently dive into business topics together, I wanted to show as many people as I could how I run my sessions, how I work with clients, how I coach people, etc.
