I dream big, do work, and have fun. 

At LinkedIn I became the top rep in the world setting records unmatched, and named MVP during an epic 18 month sales year. I delivered  $500,000,000 net to LinkedIn. I did it without losing my soul.

Much of my success was based on a building a trusted personal brand. I spent years attempting to visually tell my story, and almost gave up. Then I started using Canva. It became almost like cheating. People were excited to see what ideas I came up with and I could really devote my energy to creating mutual success. 

My best sales year at LinkedIn was when I abandoned Powerpoint and started using Canva. So, joining the Strategic Sales team at Canva for me is a dream come true.

Coincidence? Nope. I finally found a way to tell a story and really convince customers to dream big, not just spend money with LinkedIn.

Now I'm on the other side of the table, selling what people think is "just a consumer design tool" to the enterprise. 

I am watching Fortune 500 teams realize they can move at the speed of creativity, performance marketers can catapult ROAS, and sales teams can get more creative without the "brand police" calling!

Coach K wrote about "shared confidence" in his book—the idea that when one person believes, it lifts the entire team. That's exactly what I'm seeing here...

A few years ago, we shared our 2 Step Plan:

1. Build one of the world’s most valuable companies
2. Do the most good we can do

We have a crazy big dream: that by the end of our lifetimes, everyone on this planet will have their basic human needs met. It’s terribly sad that this is still considered a crazy big dream, but thanks to the support of our community, the Canva Foundation is committing another $100 million USD to support people living in extreme poverty to take another step towards this.

Since 2021, our partnership with GiveDirectly has provided $50 million in direct cash transfers to more than 85,000 people in Malawi. Families have used this support to send children to school, access healthcare, start small businesses, and invest in livestock and tools that help create long-term security. Each story is different, but all prove a simple truth: when people are trusted to decide what they need most, the impact is extraordinary.

This new $100 million commitment will reach another 185,000 people, helping families transform their lives, while creating ripple effects that strengthen entire communities. It is, without a doubt, the best money we could ever imagine spending.

Sabbatical

I used to have this filled out with things that seemed really productive and amazing (I did get a master's and write a novel during this time, so on the outside, it did look "productive"). 

Here's the truth about my sabbatical: 
I was so burned out that I had to stop working for a year. 
I did a lot of therapy, walked my dog, started writing fiction, and stayed off LinkedIn. 

During this year, I wanted to know why nothing ever felt good enough, even when I had achieved so much. 

I found a lot of answers (mostly stemming from childhood). 

My therapist was the real MVP of this year (thank you Lynne, my hero!). 

At the end of this year, I came to a truth I had known for a while: 

It was time to leave corporate and start my own life coaching business (every little girl's dream).

Sabbatical 

I lead a team of 8 sales professionals who service over 250 boutique recruitment agencies.  My role as a sales leader is to develop the critical sales skills and career progression of these individuals who enable recruitment agencies to achieve greater revenue and profit through the LinkedIn platform.

Managed $5MIL USD in revenue.

No matter how much I achieved, it was never enough.

I had climbed the ladder, thinking

This was because....

➞ I lived with undiagnosed PTSD from 14 to 30, which led to extreme workaholism.
➞I spent years struggling with low self-esteem and alcoholism.
➞I thought having a big job title, a lot of money, and working for a shiny company would cure me.
➞In the end, I burned out so badly at 30, I stopped working for a year.

My Hannie’s Journey:
◆ I quit my corporate job.
◆ I rebuilt my life with 12-step recovery, therapy, and coaching.
◆ I got my Master’s in Creative Writing.
◆ I became a published author.
◆ I met my amazing partner and we got engaged.


I started my life coaching practice
because I wanted to figure out why,
even when I “had it all,”
I felt deeply unhappy.

Now I know:
My self-esteem and self-worth aren’t correlated to my job title, income,
or perceived power.

My self-esteem has been built by taking small, courageous actions each day to live a life that aligns with my values:
