Not because I was restless or couldn't hold a job. Because the market kept shifting, and I had to shift with it.

Each reinvention taught me this: The days of job security are long gone. You either reinvent your career or someone else will do it for you. Adaptability is the new job security. 

In 2021, I started helping mid-career professionals build adaptability muscles to navigate transitions, find their next move, and stop waiting for their employer to hand them a roadmap.


And then AI happened. 

That work pushed me deep into AI as a practical tool. My clients needed faster learning, clearer thinking, better decisions. I became an AI power-user because they needed that leverage to reinvent faster, and I saw this technology as an opportunity to rewire my own business.

Through conversations with hundreds of leaders, I noticed the same problem showing up inside organizations, but at scale.

- People treating AI like a better search engine instead of a tool that could fundamentally change how they work. 

- Pilots that go nowhere because nobody knows what problem they're actually solving.

So in 2025, I launched Horizon2, an AI strategy and training practice focused primarily on CPG and foodservice organizations.

I picked this industry because I know how it operates, its constraints, and where AI can actually drive results rather than just add noise.

One of my scarier realizations today...

I've learned more in the past year (2025) than I did in the previous three (2022-2024).

I've learned more in those previous three years (2022-2024) than I did in the ten years prior (2011-2021).

I still feel like I don't know anything and if anything, feel more ignorant of the world today than I ever was in the past 25 years.

Even scarier, I know plenty of people who haven't learned anything outside of their day job in the past 15 years.

There are a few real estate professionals I follow on LinkedIn who appear to be turning into cyborgs, with the sheer speed of agentic knowledge development they are acquiring.  Justin C. Gohn, MAI, CRE®, SRA Chase Pursley repeatedly pop up on my feed.

Then I see memes on X that one must be gainfully unemployed in order to keep up with the pace of AI.  They're both working, so either I have not yet discovered the Neural MCP server or there's more to it I'm not aware of.

But I am starting to understand why those in the CRE community who aren't AI-native yet struggle with adoption.  Capability development within CRE is insanely slow if you think about it.

If you're learning leasing, you have to wait for a deal to come along, negotiate, review, execute etc. and the iterative knowledge and experience development that comes with it takes several years.  You face significant context switching and attention residue costs because when you flip back a counter-offer, it's not like they respond immediately.  You move on to the next thing on your list.  The same thing applies with building inspections.  You can't line up 100 back to back.  You can't intentionally appraise 50 edge cases.

The reinforcement learning cycle in bricks and mortar real estate takes years.  You have to get a particular kind of job, do the work, and wait for the right kind of opportunity to come along that actually advances your knowledge, which means waiting for your boss to delegate work to you that is too easy for him/her, and just at the edge of your capability in order for you to learn.  That's the apprenticeship model in a nutshell.

But if you're learning anything remotely related to agentics, a Github account, click new repo, and a $200/month Claude Code subscription means you are compressing knowledge intake to your brain's biological limits.  Thirty plugins later, you're scrapping and rebuilding the very first one you did because it's obsolete or a complete joke.  Thirty plugins can happen in 30 days or 30 hours depending on whether you're unemployed or not.

You don't scrap, rebuild a bad deal and update your release notes.  You wait for the next one to come along and hope you don't make the same mistakes.  If you're really smart, you would have written down your lessons learned, which most people don't actually do on a deal by deal basis.

Somebody please help me understand how you can work a 9-5 job, not be AI-native between 9-5, and have any clue as to what's going on when material releases seem to come at least once or twice a week.
