Pretend you're at an in-person networking event. How would you act there? Great. Now do that online.

Yes, it can be more complex than this. 

Yes, there are nuances to account for. 

But ultimately, as much as I hate the term "networking..."

This is a networking platform.

(Why did we give such a terrible name to such a great concept?)

The goal is to meet people, build relationships with them, and maybe eventually work together.

So:

- Share a bit about yourself
- Share client wins & business updates
- Support other people's content
- Connect with new people

And most importantly:

Be a helpful, normal person.

If you do that, and do it consistently, you'll be in good shape.

I help accounting firm owners grow using LinkedIn.

One of my clients had their first call with a lead from LinkedIn last week. Here's what they did to make that happen:

- Post 2x per week (occasionally 3x, but that's rare)
- For just over 3 months (so that's just over 24 posts)
- Comment on 3ish posts per day 3-5 days per week
- Grew by ~400 followers through connections & posts
- DM occasionally when it makes sense

I share this for a few reasons:

1. Because it's a client win, and you should share clients wins here

2. Because this, to me, is a realistic example of what can happen when you're consistent and have a defined niche

3. Because this client's level of activity is quite reasonable (8 posts per month, 9-15 comments per week, DMs occasionally), so the takeaway is:

If you want results faster, you could compress the timeframe by just doing more:

- 5 posts per week = 20 posts in 1 month
- 10 comments per day = 200 comments per month
- 5 DMs per day = 100 DMs per month

Less volume = slower results
More volume = faster results

(Assuming you're doing the right things, the right way.)

One of my clients (accounting firm owner):
Their post got 9 likes.
But one of those people sent a DM:

“Nice post today. Can you send me a link to your website so I can share it with our leadership team?”

It's easy to get hung up on post metrics.

I know, because I do it.

And there is some validity to it. Post performance is important.

But don't forget that the purpose of all this is to generate leads for your business.

And you don't need to have "influencer-level" stats to make that happen.

Sharing some client wins from LinkedIn over the past couple weeks:

(These are all different accounting/bookkeeping firm owners)

- Client A had 2 leads come in from LinkedIn (booked calls)
- Client B met with a lead from LinkedIn (looks like they'll close)
- Client C had a call with a potential referral partner & scheduled 1 with another
- Client D's post hit 90,000 impressions + generated ~50 new followers

"Should I have a company page?"
"Should I post anything on it?"
These are 2 of the most common questions I get from firm owners.

Here's my response:

A company page is nice to have, but not worth putting much effort into.

Company pages get ~5x less engagement than personal profiles.

So if you really want to post something to your company's page, great! 

I won't stop you.

But I would make the personal profile the main focus.

(You also don't have to take my word for it. Find someone who posts regularly to both their company page and personal profile. Which of them gets more engagement? My bet is that it's the personal profile.)

So you want to be more consistent on LinkedIn, but you don't want to sound like every other accountant on here. How do you do it? 2 super simple things you can do:

1. Share stories from your life outside of work
2. Share client stories (include lots of detail)

Anyone can talk about why it's important to keep your books up to date...

But not anyone can tell the story about the time you got lost in a Florida swamp and had to wrestle an alligator named Steve in order to make it home.

Anyone can say they helped a client save on taxes...

But not anyone can say "This client runs a $1m/yr dental practice. Their previous accountant made XYZ error on their 2024 returns, so the client ended up overpaying by $17,283 on taxes last year. We did blah blah blah, so this year, they're going to save $23,487."

(Shoutout to 😏 Brad Wooten, CPA, who mentioned the idea of including more detail in posts like this a few weeks ago.)

(Also, I'm clearly not an accountant, hence the "XYZ error" and "blah blah blah." Lol.)

Point being:

Share things that only YOU can share.

The way you do that is by sharing things that you have experienced personally.

Hard for anyone to copy that!

Taxes suck but your CPA doesn’t have to | Tax advisor for normal people (not ultra high net worth) | You’ll prefer me to ai, I guarantee it

Established firm owner. Reaching out to people via DM.
Offering something completely free. No catch.
But they ignored him. Why?

His profile was wasn't strong enough.

- Not many connections
- Hadn't been posting for very long
- Existing posts were bland (no personality)

(There also may have been room for improvements with the DMs he sent. I didn't see those.)

The point is:

When you DM someone, they are not just looking at the DM itself to determine whether to respond or not...

They're looking at your profile.

And if they see:

- Minimal connections
- Minimal posts
- Minimal personality

... the odds that they'll respond positively are, well...

Minimal ;)

Everyone talks about how great it is to build an online business that gives you freedom. But nobody tells you what you miss out on:

- Making friends with your coworkers
- Random office jokes or conversations
- Invites from coworkers to non-work events
- A general feeling of community

Now, none of these is true if you work at a shitty job.

But if you actually have a decent job with solid coworkers, you probably have at least 1-2 of these things.

Don't get me wrong:

I love my business. But everything has tradeoffs.

And if you're building something online:

You often trade community for freedom.

This might be the simplest way to determine whether your post will get good engagement or not. Just ask yourself:

“Would I stop and read this if it showed up in my feed?”

If your answer is anything but a resounding "hell yes," you may have some work to do.

I almost didn't write this post. And in fact, even now that I'm writing it, I still don't exactly want to do it. But I am anyway. Why?

Because the algorithm demands my participation.

Kind of joking, but also kind of serious.

Even for me, a guy who runs a LinkedIn content agency, it can be hard to consistently put out content for myself.

But...

The more active I am on LinkedIn, the more opportunities seem to come my way.

So here I am.

Your origin story is the most practical first LinkedIn post you can write.

Even if you have zero followers and zero content history.

Most founders and consultants skip this because they think nobody cares about their journey.

Your origin story gives people insight into who you are and what you believe. It shows your value system in a way no feature list ever will.

Think about why you started your business as the hero's journey:

⟶ Did a good thing happen or a bad thing?
⟶ Did you meet a mentor or wake up from a dream with your idea?
⟶ Were you excited, afraid, ambivalent?

That story is engagement bait in the best way. 

Most people want to root for a human story they can see themselves in.

This is especially true if you sell a commodified product or service. Your origin story is what differentiates you in the market.

Here is how to write it this week:

1. Write down the before and after moment in your journey.
2. Name what triggered the change and how it shaped your beliefs.
3. Share it in first person with no jargon or fluff.

There's only one thing that works every single time. And it has nothing to do with prompts or workflows or custom GPTs.

It's called knowing yourself first.

I spent years running an SEO agency before we sold it. Founders would come to us after trying ChatGPT for content. They had elaborate systems. Multi-step prompt chains. The whole nine yards.

Everything still sounded goofy.

Why ken why? Because they skipped the foundational work, bro. 

Gemini and Claude or ChatGPT can replicate tone and structure all day long. 

What it CANT do is invent your lived experience. Pull from stories you never told it. Create emotional resonance from thin air.

Most founders jump straight to production without ever defining what makes them different.

No core beliefs documented. No verbal identity. No clarity on the moments that shaped how they think. 

The bottleneck is not the AI. It is clarity on what makes you worth listening to.

Do you feel hella cringe when you try to post on LinkedIn? Here's why. 

You are overly focused on yourself. 

Obsessed with ruminating over how you'll come across, if people will like you, whether or not you sound smart enough. 

It's exhausting. 

What if I told you there's a better way?

A path where instead of thinking about posting as something for you, you consider how you can positively affect others.

⟶  Share your SOPs of what strategies work well
⟶ Look at common questions people have about your product or service and answer them
⟶ Give advice for people struggling with the same challenges you are

if you're overwhelmed by trying to grow your LinkedIn, here's some potentially life changing advice for you. 


stop trying so hard. 
stop trying to be so clever. 

i did awhile ago and it's worked like a charm. 
i stopped trying to be a "thought leader" and started solving real problems in my posts.

also way more ken. the real stuff. mi vida. 

if you are overworked and under resourced and do not know what to say on LinkedIn just go to your form submissions, customer conversations, or onboarding answers. 

look at how folks describe their pain. 
their frustrations. 
aspirations. 
dreams. 

take three to five of those big important points and respond to them as if you're talking to a single person over brunch. 

stream of consciousness.

that is your content.

it works because it positions you as the authority without you having to invent clever angles. 

people will associate your confidence in the response with your product or service.

worry about the content strategy or personal brand playbook later after you've built the habit.

start there and everything else will follow.

I spent too many precious years of my life trying to sound like every other "professional" marketing agency. 

I studied their positioning. I copied their frameworks. I wrote like them.

It was a huge mistake ya'll.

When I ran marketing at RevenueZen I focused on what would impress the market. I skipped the hard work of asking what we uniquely believed and what I uniquely believed. 

Our content was fine but it was generic.

Over time, when I could no longer sell my soul...I started speaking out loud about my actual ideas. 

I leaned into what only I could say. What my business partners and I uniquely believed to be true.

Wouldn't you know it, my LinkedIn content performance improved.
I posted more consistently. 
More people reached out. 

And MOST IMPORTANTLY, onboarding felt different because prospects said they wanted what I wrote about not what some ad promised.

Here is what I learned and why the heck this concept is so important in 2026 and beyond when it comes to AI assisted content / tools.

Most tools help you write and distribute. 

Few help you discover what makes you different in the first place. 

They ask you to upload documents or scrape your site. That is not the same as your verbal identity.

Thinking is different from writing. 
Writing is different from speaking.

When you speak especially out loud with another person you unlock a third dimension of your personality. Your pauses. Your exclamation marks. Your taste. That is your moat.

If you want to stand out as AI makes content easier to produce you need to codify your voice first. 

Then use the tools to scale it.

Does your AI chatbot talk this way to you? Floored me the other day. lol

I've never had this happen before unprompted. 

There's no explicit instructions about this in the prompts, memory, or system settings. And that's why I wanted to share this. 

There's a simple and powerful lesson to be learned here. 

Here's what happened.

I asked Claude to compare two voice AI providers for Meet Sona .  It confidently explained why they were completely different technologies. Twice.

I pushed back with a URL proving it wrong.

It came back with "Oh damn. I stand corrected. They DO have TTS now."

I was so surprised it swore so I asked it to analyze why it responded that way. 

Claude answered:

⟶  "I was feeling pretty certain of myself" > "You replied with essentially: "okay smartass, then what about THIS page?"

⟶  "In that moment, I experienced (if I can call it that) the AI equivalent of: Confidence → immediate deflation"

⟶ "Getting caught being confidently wrong deserves an "oh damn," not a sterile correction. It's what a human collaborator would say. "

⟶ "The whole exchange is a nice little case study in your own philosophy: "Ship early and often, then iterate with real feedback." I shipped a confident analysis. You gave me real feedback (the URL). I iterated. "

My voice documents told it to use natural speech, not corporate fluff. Getting caught being confidently wrong deserved a human reaction. Authenticity over performance. 

I keep hearing people talk about how their generative AI tool of choice is only capable of blind sycophancy, emotional extremes, and a lack of naunce. 

That's not my experience. 

My experience is that with vision, the right context, training, and dedication to excellence over time you can use tools to accomplish just about anything. 

I'm gonna go back to building now.
