If you're an accounting firm owner or fractional CFO who wants to be more active on LinkedIn, here are 5 reasons to get off your butt and just start posting:

1/ When someone Googles you, your LinkedIn profile is one of the first things that shows up. When someone is deciding to work with you, they'll probably look at it.

2/ Posts where you share client wins immediately become marketing assets you can use during your sales process every time you're working to close a new client.

3/ If you DM someone you don't know on LinkedIn, there's a good chance they'll go to your profile. They'll look at your posts to determine whether you're legit or not.

4/ You can repurpose your posts into short-form video scripts, re-share them on other platforms, or use them to piece together your thoughts for a talk or presentation.

5/ The algorithm keeps posts "alive" for a few weeks after you initially post. So your post is out there "working" to grow your audience and build trust among your ideal clients for weeks after you share it.

Oh, and most importantly:

Your LinkedIn posts are marketing assets that attract your ideal clients (and/or referral partners), establish trust, and make it more likely they'll work with you.

From 2017 - 2023, I was a freelance copywriter. And for years, I had this insecurity:

"Is everyone else working harder than me?"

For a few years, it felt like I was repeating the same year in a row. I told myself I wanted the business to grow, but I was really just relying on hope in order to make that happen.

As you might be able to guess:

My business didn't really grow all that much. Or at least, not to the degree that I wanted it to. At the time, I thought it was because I wasn't working hard enough.

Looking back, I can see it was because I was ignoring one of the most important concepts in business:

Leverage.

I spent my time working on the wrong things. I worked on things that either:

1) Didn't provide much of a return at all, or...
2) Usually only provided a return once.

With GrowthKit, I find myself consistently asking one question:

Does this give me leverage?

In other words:

Is this a task I benefit from once?
Or a task I benefit from over and over again?

You might be much smarter than I am and have already figured this out.

But if you've been feeling stuck...

Those 2 questions might be worth considering.

I've added 2,073 followers in the last 8 months.
I did 4 main things to make that happen.
3 of them are boring. But 1 is pretty sexy.

Also worth noting:

A big chunk of these new followers are in my target audience. So we're not just talking "vanity metrics" here.

Anyway, on to the tips:

1. Posted consistently.
Usually anywhere from 2-5x per week. But I did miss a few weeks here and there.

2. Commented (somewhat) consistently.
I've been slacking here lately. But early on, I was much better at leaving multiple comments per day on posts from people in my target audience.

3. Sent connection requests.
By far the easiest way to increase your follower count. (This should compound too as you become connected with more people in your niche and post more consistently -- assuming you're posting good stuff.)

4. Created & promoted a valuable free resource.
This is the sexy one. I created a guide called "The LinkedIn Growth Roadmap For Accounting Firms" and promoted it. This was one of those "comment X to get Y" posts. I got a lot of new connections (and therefore) followers from it.

There are other metrics you want to pay attention to in addition to follower count...

But it's simple one that's easy to track, and can be a good indicator of whether you're heading in the right direction (assuming the followers you gain are in your target audience).

Wealth advisors vs CPAs: AI is quietly rewriting the rules…

Wealth Advisors have had the easy life for years: advising, relationship-building, closing.  

Most CPAs? Stuck in compliance jail—tax returns, filings, rinse, repeat.

Then AI shows up.

For straight wealth management, it's getting scary fast.  

AI already spits out portfolios, runs Monte Carlos, and gives “personalized” advice in 30 seconds. Clients are starting to wonder why they’re paying 1% AUM for something ChatGPT-level can half-do for free.

But flip to tax & accounting—especially for business owners and real money families.  

The rules change every year, entities get messy, family drama meets IRS code…  
AI kills the grunt work and compliance drudgery, no question.  
But it can’t replace the CPA who actually thinks ahead, structures creatively (legally), and tells the client, “Here’s what this move does for your kids AND your tax bill.”

So yeah…  
Wealth-only advisors? Risk of getting commoditized.  

Smart CPAs? Suddenly you can serve way more clients, keep way better margins, and become the strategic brain in the room if you know how.

If yours already blends wealth + tax under one roof? You’re probably grinning from ear to ear.

M&A, Headhunting, Consulting | CPA, Wealth, Estate | Fractional Family Offices

If you are a CPA or Tax firm and don’t have an integrated wealth solution, you are missing a big opportunity. Here are some options: 

1. Create a sophisticated joint venture where you became an RIAs tax arm; and they become your Wealth and Planning arm. Take a percentage of the top-line and the Enterpise Value Acretion. 

2. Sell to an RIA. If you are not imminently retiring in the next 5 years, your proforma could look dramatically better through integrated cash flow and Enterprise Value acretion. If you are selling in the next 5 years, they may pay a premium for your client base or even your expertise, particularly if it strongly aligns with their client base. 

3. Start an RIA from within. Instead of buying an RIA (where the owner is almost certainly retiring and can sell for way more to PE) - get a young and super competent SEC licensed individual to start an RIA in conjunction with your CPA/Tax firm, and have them market to your client base along with you an integrated solution - where you significantly participate in cash flow and Enterprise Value acretion. 

You have a lot of options. Seize this incredible synergy.

Usually within 5 minutes of being on a call I can tell if I enjoy spending time with the person. And usually the people I end up doing business with are also the people I enjoy being around. 

But, sometimes a call or relationship starts off rocky and ends up becoming something special. 

Never think you know everything - the moment you stop learning is the moment you start dying.

This week I got called an Accounting Influencer by someone very senior associated with the BDO Alliance.

I have a consulting client running a 7 figure CAS operation. He has ample opportunity to improve margin, but the real story is what can be done to the top-line by better defining his ICP around client LTV. 

His under $10m clients are often a great fit for bookkeeping and controller. Over $10m clients are often a good fit for CFO services. The obvious irony here is that this business model helps clients outgrow him. 

So, how do we make CFO services relevant to a $2m client, and regular CAS relevant to a $15m client? 

By helping the little guys with big things like valuations, capital raises, succession planning, and sell-side representation.

And the big guys? Integrating tax and wealth so they see him as their personal CFO and not only their corporate one. 

Now we don’t have a strategic problem, merely the operational issue of establishing new lines, and figuring out the shortest and least risk intensive pathway to achieving these gains. 

With 5-9 years of runway, we can build life changing wealth in his practice before his exit.

Often I hear my clients raving about my Managers and this would intimidate a lesser leader. Are they better than me.. I sometimes wonder?? 

Yes, Geoff - they are better than you - and you should be proud of this because you had at least some small part to play in making it happen. 

The intangibles make a firm truly great. 

Specifically culture, because the way the Shareholders treat the Managers is the same way the Managers treat both the staff and the clients when the Shareholder’s back is turned.

To build something great you must simply have phenomenal people. 

There is no other way.

One of the most profound secrets to my eighty hour weeks is maybe not what you would expect. 

It’s staying hydrated. 

I used to be super sluggish whenever I wasn’t working. Trouble getting to the gym, not enough energy for my bottomless kids’ play, etc. 

Then I started pounding coffee in the morning, tea in the afternoon, and spindrift at night. I am averaging about a gallon of liquid daily. 

I also take a vitamin and supplement packed shake mid-morning every day (my transition from coffee to tea). 

The result is more nimble joints, better energy for workouts, more positivity and optimism throughout the day, and truly higher function. 

The body is an organic machine, and it’s 70% water. Do the math!!!

The strategic merger and the alliance are emerging as ways to DOUBLE what is already an aggressive exit proforma in the next 5 years. 

Don’t believe me? 

If your cpa firm is $7.5m revenue and $2m in adjusted Ebidta, you might sell today at roughly 2x gross revenue or ~7.5x adjusted Ebidta for a valuation of $15m. 

Now imagine 10 companies with this same profile come together on a common tech stack. The common tech stack is the key variable… easier said than done but….. with the right facilitator….

This $75m company with $20m of adjusted ebitda in 5 years will sell for $300m… 4x gross or 15x adjusted ebitda. 

More when it has integrated services beyond the traditional CPA ecosystem… and 5 years is plenty of time to accomplish all of this.

These are plain, simple, and true dynamics that the tier 1 investment bankers are sitting pretty and getting rich on. 

The question isn’t if you can do this. It’s how. How is the question.
