After 15 years of growing my business, I realised something FUNDAMENTAL was missing.

Confidence in leadership isn’t about always having the answer

It’s about this…

Trusting yourself to figure things out - even when nothing feels certain.

Too many leaders think they need to seem perfect. 
But that’s not where respect comes from.

Respect comes from how you handle pressure. 
From how you respond when things go wrong.

The best leaders?

→ They ask for help. 
→ They admit when they’re unsure. 
→ They build teams that challenge their thinking.

So if you want to lead with confidence, try this:

1. Listen more than you speak.
2. Let your actions do the talking.
3. Be willing to be wrong - honesty builds trust.
4. Surround yourself with strong, honest voices.
5. Stand by your decisions, especially the tough ones.
6. Trust yourself to figure it out - not to have it all figured out.

You don’t need to feel “ready.”

You just need to trust that you’ll handle what comes next.

One of the hardest lessons to learn:

You cannot make someone change.

Sometimes you spend months trying to raise issues that are affecting the team.

- You give feedback.
- You offer suggestions.
- You explain the impact on people around you.

And still…
Nothing changes.

Why?

Because listening starts with awareness.

And if a leader cannot see the problem in their behaviour?
They believe they have no reason to change it.

Employees can raise concerns.

They can be honest.

They can explain what is happening on the ground.

But improvement only happens when a leader chooses to:

→ Listen
→ Reflect
→ Take responsibility

So remember:

You cannot force someone to hear what they are not willing to hear.

Biggest lesson this year?

Stop over-giving to people who wouldn’t do the same for you.

It sounds blunt. 
It’s still true.

Too many of us pour:

Into relationships that give nothing back.

That isn’t kindness. 
It’s imbalance.

So I watch actions now.

Not words.

If someone values you, they show it.

→ They make time 
→ They show up

The right people step up.

The rest drift away.

Today I nearly jacked it all in on a hunch when someone said “DM me GROWTH” if you want to quit your job and change your life.

I thought right… why not, let’s go all in.

So the plan was simple. Quit the job, book a one way flight to Bali and become a full time influencer. Laptop on the beach, coconut in hand, posting about “mindset” at 6am.

Then I had a second look.

Most of the people in the comments saying they’d done exactly that were also currently “Open To Work.”

So I’ve had second thoughts, Bali is now cancelled.

I’m just going to Amsterdam instead for a mini break.

P.S. It’s actually my first time going and I have no idea what to expect… any tips? 😅

One of the things as humans is that sometimes we continue to stay with what is "safe" and "routine" because it offers a level of comfort in knowing what to expect, but doing new things is just as important.

I had my reservations and my own image of what Amsterdam would have been like from listening to other people, hearing other experiences and people saying "not my sort of place". I think we do listen to others and sometimes create our own narrative that might put us off, but the best experiences are when you experience it yourself.

Amsterdam, what a beautiful city. For an ADHDer my "hypervigilance" around the bikes was in full force. So many quirky shops, nice food, and a very good mini city break. I always think that "new experiences" are crucial in life because it really opens your eyes up and you feel more cultured around different places.

I finally got to meet the lovely Marie Chaproniere, a fellow ADHDer. Just like everyone knows, you feel like you've known people for years and spent most of your life growing up with these people. What a wonderful human, and being able to just unmask, talk about 30 topics, four backstories and "what were we talking about again?" and everyone still keeps track of the conversation.

The best experience for me was "AMAZE", a sensory maze experience. You control the lights, swing chairs in the dark, and there are all these colours and lasers. 

Like a neurodivergent dream and a lot of fun.

New experiences are always the way forward, even if we always think the worst about every situation because we overthink everything.

P.S. I’m always rubbish at saying goodbye to places and people I’ve enjoyed

Conflict is part of working life, but for a neurodivergent brain it can feel overwhelming before it even starts.

If you are neurodivergent you’ll know the routine.

You build yourself up to say something, rehearse it in your head, walk over to your colleague… then your brain pulls the plug and you’re suddenly reversing back to your desk like nothing happened.

What has genuinely helped me in work and in life is this:

→ Giving myself time to process
→ Writing things down first
→ Asking for clarity so I don’t spiral
→ Taking a breather before my emotions sprint off without me

Everyone is different but : 

👉🏻 Some shut down.

👉🏻 Some over-explain to fill the silence.

👉🏻 Some rehearse a full conversation in the toilet then walk out and whisper “No worries at all” with a smile that screams panic.

Sometimes we forget we are the professionals in the room. I know what I normally do is have a conversation with peers then quickly message that peer after to ask "Was that okay?"

I think we can be our worst critique sometimes, even though we know what we’re talking about.

We just have to back our own experience… followed by about 100 sorries to make sure no one thinks we’re being rude.

For me, conflict feels like a full internal meltdown while looking calm on the outside. My face is doing “it’s fine” while my brain is drafting my resignation for something that hasn’t even happened.

The more we learn to sit in discomfort, the easier it becomes to trust ourselves.

Mother’s Day always makes me think about the strength of a mother’s love.

My mum deserves a medal after the love she has given me throughout my and her being able to say "I'm proud of you Thomas" meant everything to me.

Seven years ago, before my ADHD diagnosis, things between us were really tough, heartbreaking even.

The chaos of my life was too much for her:

🔹 Alcohol abuse
🔹 Substance addiction
🔹 Gambling addiction
🔹 Leaving jobs without another lined up
🔹 Struggling to hold down relationships

There were times she had to protect herself from the stress and pain it caused. I was kicked out of the house three times because she didn’t want me in her life anymore.

Not because she didn’t love me, but because the lies, the chaos, and the unpredictability were too much.

Trust takes years to rebuild.

Even now, sometimes trauma pops up and she might second guess something I say because of what things used to be like and I understand that.

I can never truly understand a mother’s love, but I can understand what I must have put her through.

Since my diagnosis, things have slowly changed.

Rebuilding trust, showing up differently. Having conversations we couldn’t have before and being able to just simply "talk".

Last year I was able to take my mum away for Mother’s Day, something that once would have felt impossible.

But honestly, seeing the effort she has made to understand me over the years means even more and even have read the "Now it all makes sense" by AP to understand my ADHD better.

👉🏻 Hearing your parents say they’re proud of you after everything… there’s no money, likes, or impressions that could ever match that.

To anyone who thinks “I’ll never do well”, I promise you, you really can.

Sometimes you just have to rebuild yourself again.

Not broken, just different.

P.S. Shoutout to all the mother figures who show up for others, offering love and support even in the most chaotic situations. For anyone who finds Mother’s Day difficult because they’ve lost their mum or someone special, I’m thinking of you too. 💜

What I love about ADHD is when someone asks you for directions and your brain immediately panics. You know you’ve been there before, you know the place exists, but suddenly every road, turn and landmark disappears from your memory. 

So you start confidently explaining, “Yeah just go down there, take a left, then it’s sort of near the big building…” while inside your head you’re thinking I have absolutely no idea where I’m sending this person. 

I do sometimes wonder what happened to all the people who asked me for directions over the years… because there’s a very real chance some of them are still wandering around trying to find where I sent them. 😅

Sometimes the best way to be an ally is simply to listen.

Over the years I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some incredible women who have challenged my thinking, called things out that I may not have seen, and helped shape the way I show up in both work and life.

What I’ve learned is that International Women’s Day isn’t just about celebrating achievements, it’s also about recognising the voices, perspectives and experiences that haven’t always been given the space they deserve.

The women around us every day are leaders, innovators, mentors, friends and the people pushing industries, communities and workplaces forward.

Sometimes allyship isn’t about having the perfect words. It’s about supporting, amplifying and making sure the room is big enough for every voice to be heard.

So today I’m celebrating the women who have helped shape my perspective, challenged me to think differently, and reminded me that progress happens when people show up for each other.

And yes… sometimes that support comes from being "Betomce" too.

Happy International Women’s Day to the women who continue to inspire change, break barriers and lift others up along the way. 💜

Cheating in hiring processes is something almost nobody talks about openly, but everyone in recruitment knows it happens. Protecting the integrity of the process has never been more important.

Whether it’s someone else completing the assessment, copying answers from external tools, constantly switching tabs to search, or now just dropping the question straight into AI.

Technology has changed how people work, which is great, but it has also changed how people try to game hiring processes.

The real problem is that when cheating happens, it doesn’t just affect the company, It affects the candidates who actually did the work.

👉🏻 The person who spent hours preparing.

👉🏻 The candidate who solved the problem themselves.

👉🏻 The one who showed their real thinking.

When someone shortcuts the process, those people can lose out.

One of the things that stood out to me when looking at Canditech was how seriously they take this. Not in a “gotcha” way, but in a way that protects fairness.

Things like ChatGPT detection, tab-switch tracking, copy-paste alerts and device monitoring help show what’s actually happening during an assessment.

But what I liked most is that it’s not just about stopping cheating. It’s about understanding how people solve real-life work problems.

Some companies now allow AI inside assessments so they can observe how candidates prompt, reason and use tools in a realistic environment.

That’s much closer to how people actually work day to day.

P.S. One feature I liked was the follow-up video questions where candidates explain how they reached their answer. It’s a simple way to confirm real understanding rather than just seeing the final response.

Today is Neurodiversity Celebration Week, a time to recognise and celebrate the many ways people think, learn and experience the world differently.

Seven years ago I was diagnosed with ADHD and it completely changed how I understood myself and how my brain works.

One thing I’ve noticed with awareness weeks like this is that sometimes it gives people permission to

👉🏻 Talk about it
👉🏻 Unmask a little
👉🏻 Celebrate yourself (should be doing this anyway)

For me, I have always had to hide that I am neurodivergent earlier in life until I realised that I used to sit there and simply struggle with most things at work. The usual pattern would happen over and over again.

Start a new job = make myself known to everyone, be everyone's friend, people please, take on all the work in the world, get burnout and then take a conversation the wrong way, then leave without another job to go to.

Then repeat.

You end up having a CV to a point where people go, “Are you a contractor?” You feel so ashamed that you just lie because you don’t want to tell people the truth that you cannot hold a job down.

With the right support, medication and being honest with boundaries, “bonding” with the ADHD, you can do magical things and being employed for me means everything. “Just being employed” longer than a year is a miracle for me and I count my lucky stars that it's an employer that allows me to be “myself”.

Something that still surprises people is that around 1 in 7 people are neurodivergent. That means in most workplaces, meetings or teams there is a very good chance someone processes information differently. (This is not just a small conversation anymore).

For advice for this week, here’s mine:
For employers:

👉🏻 Don’t assume what support someone needs. Ask.

👉🏻 Focus on outcomes, not just how someone gets there.

👉🏻 Create environments where people feel safe to talk openly.

For neurodivergent individuals:

👉🏻 Learn how your brain works and what helps you thrive.

👉🏻 Find your people, the difference when the mask drops is powerful.

👉🏻 Advocate for what you need to do your best work.

If people “unmask” to show you their real selves, don’t think “Omg, you're weird” “Why did you come out with a fact about hippos” “Omg that doesn't make sense”.

What you will quickly do is put someone straight back into a box and they will go back to masking and go through a whole thought process of reasons why they were told to unmask, and now go back to someone that it’s very draining.

Celebrating all the amazing people on here that show up and think differently.

What I love about ADHD is that hobbies aren’t really hobbies… they’re temporary life missions. One week you’re mildly interested in something, the next you’ve watched 47 videos, bought the equipment, told three people you might go professional, and you’re explaining the entire subject like you’ve worked in the industry for 12 years. 😅

Just remember when you say “I have been doing a few bits at home” when you are closing the gap on skills vs experience in an interview, make sure you give some examples.

We have all been there. 

Maybe the interview is tomorrow but our skills gap might be three months, six months or even a couple of years out because we are currently out of work or looking.

The main thing I see people say is “I have been doing a few bits at home”, but then it comes to a showdown of me trying to read “what bits”, the candidate not trying to give too much away, then a firm nod… and moving on to the classic “Got any questions for us?”

If you have done self-research into a knowledge gap you may have, make sure you:

👉🏻 Give practical examples
👉🏻 Make sure you are honest

You may or may not know the reason you prep is actually to see how quickly you would upskill at work to the team’s level and what support you would need to start delivering in whatever industry.

Because if you can close a gap within a week, or at least have examples of upskilling, it shows companies how quickly you can fit in and get up to speed with everyone else.
