I'm coming to a city near you. After everyone left Tulum, I spent an extra week in Mexico to reflect + refuel. And 2 things became abundantly clear....
 
1. The intimate mastermind in the sun will become an annual event.
2. We're going to start doing more international in-person events. Some will be dinner meetups, others will be workshops, and a few will be bigger transformational experiences.
 
Starting with:
 
→ Athens in May
→ Ottawa in June
→ Paris in October
→ London in October
→ Toronto in October
 
And we might even host a little something in Thunder Bay in April.
 
So if you know someone in those places who you think might like to attend, tag them. And if you'd like us to do something in a city that's not listed, say where.

I just signed an agreement where the DEPOSIT I have to pay is $21,770. I realized that's about how much I had in credit card debt 10 years ago (with another $7k ish owing on a line of credit on top of that). It's wild how much things have changed in the last decade.

I credit much of the shift to Doing Bold Sh*t.

And this simple strategy I live by:

1. Do Bold Sh*t that scares you.
2. Reflect + learn as you go. 
3. Share what you're learning to teach + inspire others. 
4. Repeat.

I don't know that I've ever made a promise like this. But if you're a coach who wants to get more clients + make more impact: watch this. You'll know exactly where you need to focus. In just 71 seconds. 

But it'll only work if....

You're honest with yourself.

And you listen to my instructions to not choose 7. 😂

In 2023, I hit a wall. 
My LinkedIn content was getting loads of views, I had plenty of followers, people were liking and commenting and even sending DMs that I was "inspiring" or sharing "great insights." But none of it mattered. 

My business had plateaued and I wasn't signing new clients.

I'd wake up every day thinking about what to post, spend hours commenting on other people's content, and do all the things the LinkedIn gurus said you sure do.
But trying to win the popularity contest wasn't magically bringing in clients. And it had me worried. If things didn't change, I might have to go back to working for someone else.

Then something hit me.

When I first launched Growth Habit, I signed 12 coaching clients in the first two weeks. Twelve. I didn't have a big following, I wasn't posting every day, and I definitely didn't have some fancy content strategy.

So what the hell had changed since then?

I'd lost sight of what actually worked. I'd gotten so caught up in creating more content and chasing engagement that I'd forgotten the thing that made me successful in the first place. I wasn't creating demand anymore, I was just creating noise.

So I stopped.

I stopped trying to chase the algorithm and stopped doing what people with hundreds of thousands of followers said I "should" be doing. I went back to what actually worked: understanding what needs to happen in someone's brain for them to go from "that's helpful" to "I need to work with this person."

Here's the part that blows my mind:

In the last two years my revenue has more than doubled while my LinkedIn views have dropped dramatically. I spend less time on here but am having more impact. Because I’ve focused on creating demand instead of chasing engagement.

But if you can avoid those pitfalls, you’ll find….
 
Incredible humans + opportunities. 
The most supportive online community. 
A platform where most people are logging in for leadership, learning, business, and growth.
 
And....

If you learn how to navigate LinkedIn LIKE A HUMAN (and use all it’s incredible features), you can chart your own path. You can get your message out in a place where the average household income is over $100k for more than half of the people on the platform. 

You can build a business doing impactful work.

Storytelling. 

Writing is still important. 
So is problem solving. 
And critical thinking. 
And selling. 

But regardless of what stage you're at in your career or what you're trying to accomplish, you need to be able to connect with folks on a human level. 

Stories have been the way we've done that for a very long time. 

And even though the world has changed very quickly, our human wiring really hasn't. 

We still love a good story. 

I've been telling stories for a living for 3 years now. 
And I've still got so much to learn. 

That's why I signed on to compete at Speaker Slam last month. I wanted to try telling stories in a new way. 

So I tried telling a story from a stage. 
With a 5-minute timer rolling.
And an audience.

I know it's a goofy thing to say...
But LinkedIn changed my life. 

I ignored the platform through my 12 years as a practicing attorney. 

It was only after I left the practice in late 2021 that I started paying more attention to the platform. 

Watching what folks like Darren McKee and Robb Gilbear were doing, I realized LinkedIn wasn't what I thought it was...

The most boring social media network on the planet. 
The world's biggest online bulletin board. 
The place to stash my digital resume. 

I started to see LinkedIn as a place to: 
• express myself genuinely 
• meet interesting people 
• create opportunities. 

I didn't have my own business then. That came later. 

What set me on that trajectory was recognizing that I'd learned LinkedIn the wrong way. 

And if I approached this platform differently, I could get different results. 

LinkedIn empowered me to build CONTENDER, a business that employs 6 full-time people. 
We're going to break 7 figures in revenue this year. 
And we're just getting warmed up.

Has LinkedIn changed your life (yet)?

There has never been a better time to start posting on LinkedIn than right now. 

If that strikes you as the self-serving talk of a guy who sells LinkedIn stuff, fair enough. 

But I truly believe that. 
Here’s why. 

People love lamenting:
• How reach has dropped. 
• How terrible the algorithm is.
• How hard it is to get engagement. 

They’re almost always saying some version of—

My posts are not getting enough attention. 

That’s understandable. Indeed, organic reach appears down in a ton of circumstances. 

But organic reach is not actually the point. 

Nobody pays the rent with organic reach. 
Nobody buys a truck with likes and comments. 
Nobody covers their kids’ tuition with impressions. 

We all want Linky to shower us with organic reach. 
But reach is not the real goal. 

What we’re really after out here…

Is opportunities. 

New clients. 
The next hire. 
More customers. 
The next job offer.
More awareness that you’re the go-to expert in your domain and market. 

If I offered you 1 million impressions or 1 new client, which are you taking? 

I’m taking the client every time. 

And I don’t actually NEED more impressions to land more clients. 

What I can use is MORE people starting to pay attention to LinkedIn for the fist time. 

The more people who do that, the harder it might be to get organic reach. 

But that’s fine. Because it also means there are more people plugged into the network. 

Each of those people is another source of potential opportunities. 

This is why I’m not worried about the drop in reach. 
It’s corresponding with the LinkedIn network getting stronger. 

And if you’re consistently depositing your energy into this network, you’re building up your social capital here. 

That social capital has never been more valuable than it is today. 
And I’ll bet it all that social capital here will be more valuable a year from now than it is today.

That’s why I’ve never been as bullish on LinkedIn as I am right now.
