Personally, I think AI is making coaches lazy, not efficient.

When you can create a growth plan in minutes, you skip the deep listening required. 

You bypass the intuitive work that makes coaching genuinely transformative.

This efficiency trap creates surface-level interventions which miss the nuanced human understanding that takes time to develop.

I get speed is seductive, but it’s not coaching.

5 Key Drivers Shaping the Future of Coaching

Why I spent £10k on my first coach.

I went on 4 discovery calls to find my first business coach.

3 of them felt like a hard sell.

Coaches asking questions just to pitch their solution.

Barely pausing between my answers and their next talking point.

But one call was different.

This coach asked about me first, business second.

Then actually listened to my answers.

Asked follow-up questions I hadn't considered.

Like, “what would I not use her for?”

Didn't rush to tell me how she could help.

And by the end, I felt understood.

Not sold to.

Understood.

I signed a six month agreement with her same day.

Best £10k I ever invested.

Next time you're on a discovery call:

Your prospects don't need convincing.

Exactly who. Decide who you're for and be honest about who you're not. That takes courage but it's what separates busy from booked.

3. Your edge.

What's the thing they can't copy? The stuff that's yours.

Then map the next 90 days.

Revenue target. Client goal. How you want to feel.

4. This week, pick three moves. 

Only three. Pick a day and start. (Pro Tip: Today) 

5. Track what matters. 

Activity tells you the truth before results do.

Strategy isn't that 47-page business plan you never look at.

It's a one-pager you check every week.

No fluff. No noise. Just clarity, focus, and clients.

That's how you build a real business.

I've been hiding behind my work.

Building programs. Refining frameworks. 

Crafting coaching questions that actually move people forward.

All good stuff. Stuff I know works.

But here's what I realised this morning over coffee:

I spend zero time promoting any of it.

No marketing. No outreach. Just waiting for word of mouth to do the heavy lifting.

And that's not a strategy. That's avoidance.

Because creating feels safe. You can control it. Polish it. 

Make it perfect before anyone sees it.

Promoting feels different. It's exposed. Vulnerable. 

You're putting yourself out there and asking people to care.

So, I've been stuck in this loop where I keep building and refining, telling myself that if it's good enough, people will just find it.

They won't.

The gap between what I've created and who knows it exists? 

That's entirely on me.

I've supported over 700 coaches. I know what works (and what doesn’t). 

But none of that matters if I'm not willing to put it in front of people.

Here's what I'm committing to: spending way more time promoting as I do creating.

Not because I love marketing. But because the people who want this work won't find it unless I show up differently.

Time to get uncomfortable.

Time to hit 'Post.'

I said no to a glass of wine last night.

Small thing. 

But this morning I woke up fresh and ready to go. I could feel the difference.

The stop start nonsense that's been doing my head in lately? Gone.

Just clear about what matters and how I want to show up.

Then I sat down to plan my day. 

Update client work, hit the gym, get ahead on tasks.

And right there in my notes, the thing I've been avoiding for weeks:

Focus on creating a product. Generate cash. Grow the business.

I stared at it.

And I asked myself the question I've been dodging.

Why am I holding myself back?

Is it fear of rejection? Fear of failure? Or maybe fear of success?

I don't 100% know the answer yet. But I know I'm avoiding the work that matters.

It's easy to feel productive when you're ticking off the small stuff. Client emails, admin tasks, showing up at the gym.

All good things. All necessary.

But none of them are the scary work of putting yourself out there and building something real.

Vision without a plan is just wishful thinking.

But here's what I'm learning: a plan without honest self examination is just as useless.

Because if you're not asking yourself what you're really afraid of, you'll keep yourself busy with everything except the thing that would change things.

I still don't 100% know what's holding me back.

But at least I'm asking the question now.

And maybe that's where real change starts. 

Not with having all the answers, but with being honest enough to admit you don't.

If you're avoiding something in your business right now, something that feels too big or too scary or too uncertain:

I see you. Me too.

Maybe we both need to say no to more things that numb us, and yes to the work that scares us.

3 days ago, I deleted LinkedIn off my phone.

Gone cold turkey.

I asked myself: of all the times I was on the platform last week, scrolling, lurking, checking, what actually moved anything in my business?

What couldn't I have achieved in 10 minutes instead of the 4 hours 57 minutes I lost to the scroll last week?

Nothing.

It’s digital catnip.

And every scroll costs you the thing you can't get back: time to build something that matters.

It's like a giant earworm that keeps repeating and playing in your head.

Attention bleeds across time, across projects, across things in your mind which prevent you from focus.

Part of you is present. Part is wondering what's happening on the feed. Part is replaying Simone’s post from earlier. 

And as for notifications…

Ding. Ding. Ding.

Don’t get me started. Even on silent.

It's messing with your brain chemistry. Pavlov would be so proud.

Focused attention + Deep work = Creative output.

These are the essential requirements for being in a flow state. 

Why are you flooding your brain with nonsense that prevents it from happening?

Delete the app.

Yesterday, I had my first uninterrupted 4-hour creative block in months.

But you won't.

You'll read this, nod along, and thumb right back.

Prove me wrong.

Something I see a lot with coaches, especially when they're fairly new.

A potential client doesn't immediately want to schedule a session. 

Even a free one.

And the coach takes it personally.

Before lunch they're spiralling. Questioning everything.

Yet every coach has people who procrastinate about that first appointment. Every single one.

Instead of obsessing about what's wrong with you, ask yourself how you can add more value.

Because when someone isn't scheduling, they simply don't see the benefit in it...yet. And that's not about you. It's about whatever experience they've had so far in this relationship, or with coaching previously.

So, if this person is a good fit, create more value.

Go back through your notes or emails. Look for something specific in their situation. A challenge they mentioned. A goal they're stuck on. A pattern you noticed.

Then reach out with something useful. A resource. An insight. A different way of looking at their situation.

Help them see what's possible in their present reality. Not generic, fluffy encouragement. Specific possibility.

When they start to see opportunity where they only drew a blank, they'll jump at the chance to talk further.

Lead with value and make it personal.

What's wrong with me? How can I add more value?

"What do I say when they ask what I do?"

I get it. I really do.

That moment when someone asks and you feel your chest tighten because you're second guessing.

Will they judge the word "coach"?

Will their eyes glaze over and switch off?

Will they think urgh, I'm "one of those" people?

Here's what I want you to hear.

There's no truth script for this. No magic label or certificate that'll erase the imaginary stain or make heart-to-heart connection instantly happen. None.

Say whatever's real and true for you in that moment.

If "coach" feels right, say coach.

If it doesn't, say something else.

Some people lead with support. Others lead with transformation.

Say whatever lands as honest when it leaves your mouth.

Here's the thing.

If you're focused on their problem, really focused on what they're struggling with, they won't care what you call yourself.

They'll feel relief at being seen.

They'll feel hope at being heard.

They'll feel like something might actually shift.

And that's what moves them. Not the label.

Once you're in a real conversation, all that anxiety about "what will they think" just dissolves.

It stops mattering.

So, stop rehearsing.

Stop worrying about their first impression of your job title.

Stay with their problem.

Be curious about what's hard for them.

Keep serving.

The rest takes care of itself.

Many years ago, when I was studying at iPEC European Group, I had several coaching sessions with Arnold Ferrer.

For 5 years I resisted getting ICF certified.

Had clients. Had results. Had testimonials.

Why did I need a piece of paper?

Then I failed to land a high-ticket corporate client.

Not to better coaches.

To coaches with ICF credentials.

The tender process required it for vendor approval. 

My skills didn't matter. 
My track record didn't matter. 
No credential meant no conversation.

Credentials aren't about proving you can coach.

They're about opening doors that stay closed without them.

I thought certification was about validation. 

Like I needed someone to tell me I was good enough.

But it's not about that at all.

It's about access.

Access to corporate clients who have compliance requirements.

Access to premium rates that clients expect credentialed coaches to charge.

Access to conversations that end before they start when you can't check that box.

I finally got my PCC credentials 2 years ago.

I never want to be disqualified before I can even show what I could do.

If you're resisting credentials because you think it's about proving yourself, you're missing the point.

It's about being allowed in the room.

What room are you staying locked out of?

I sold over £15million of supplements.

And got it all wrong.

Mail order business. Long hours. Hustle mentality.

I believed if we worked hard enough, we'd deserve success.

And we did work hard.

But looking back, I realise we were playing the wrong game entirely.

The mail order companies didn't dominate.

Amazon crushed that space because they owned price, ease and fulfilment.

I remember saying at the time if Amazon enter the supplement space we're F*cked.

You can't out-Amazon Amazon.

Meanwhile, the differentiated brands went on to do fantastic things.

My Protein, Huel. Bulk. Grenade.

They weren't trying to compete on fulfilment for commodity items.

They built their own brands with clear value differentiators.

They played a different game.

And that's the million dollar insight I carry forward today.

When I work with coaches now, I see the same pattern.

They're copying the Litvins, Hormozis', Robbins, Porterfields.

Same frameworks. Same positioning. Same everything.

Working hard but playing the wrong game.

Forget asking "How do I work harder?"

Answer, "What makes me uniquely different?"

Not better. Different.

That's where your opportunity lives.

The coaches who thrive aren't necessarily the hardest workers.

They're the ones crystal clear on what they offer, why it matters and fulfilling demand.

Stop trying to out-generic the big players.

Find your lane. Own your differentiators.

That's the only game worth playing.

Coaching isn't always pretty.

A client messaged me yesterday.

Discovery call coming up.

Zero excitement. Zero mojo.

For 7 years, they’ve obsessed over enrolment. 

Created questionnaires, felt that "I’d LOVE to work with this client" energy.

Now? "Meh, if it happens, it happens."

They’d lost their mojo and didn’t know why.

Coaching fatigue? 

Too many disappointing calls? 

A shift from pushing, trying too hard... to ‘whatever’.

I asked one question:

"Has anything shifted now that you've shared this?"

Their response:

"Yes, a bit. It always does."

Then asked: "Do other coaches experience this? No one talks about it?"

My answer: I don't know any who haven't.

The rest are lying to themselves.

Sometimes the breakthrough isn't more preparation.

It's having a safe space to name the elephant in the room.

To process without judgment.

Your clients need this from you.

But you need it too.

If you're coaching alone, you're missing the space to share vulnerability.

And vulnerability is what changes everything.

1) You're on Zoom but never ahead

You're running on the spot. Going nowhere fast.

2) You're over-delivering without meaning to

More time. More access. More people pleasing.

3) Your clients like you but don't commit

They respect the work. They just don't show up. Low stakes kinda do that.

4) You twitch when you state your fees

You explain it before anyone objects. That twitch says it all.

5) Your results outperform your income

Clients shift gears. You're still stuck in first.

6) You're waiting for the right time

The right time to raise fees isn't coming. Ever.

7) It all comes down to price

They're not asking about outcomes. Your fees put paid to that.

8) There's no room to breathe

The business only works if you never stop. Welcome to cage life.

You coach like a pro. You charge like an amateur.

10) Something feels off, you can't name it

Nothing's broken, just heavy. That weight is the answer.
